These battles are pretty much who has the best concepts or storytelling. Kinda like World of Dance performances, but 1v1 and in a battle setting. Even though I prefer freestyle , I don't find these that bad because it's still entertaining if you accept it for what it is. Also think this is the perfect environment for someone like Bluprint👌🏾.

Tbh idk who won it for me. Krow is a demon but arsenal creativity was just insane. And I get what you mean not really feeling nothing it’s kind of hard to explain. There was a lot more connection for me for the flashdrive vs Jesse battle

Most people in the comments said it already but you have to watch these battles as performances rather than freestyles. If you go into these with the mindset of high technicality and battle energy you’ll be disappointed, but if you watch them solely for the storytelling and concepts it will be much more enjoyable and digestible for a freestyle such as yourself. Bare in mind I also prefer to watch battles with paradox and slim boogie, but I can find enjoyment in these none the less 🤌🏾🤌🏾🔥.

I get where your coming from. It's premeditated movements and ideas applied to the music instead of using the music to create movement and ideas. They might be on beat and know the music but there's still a feeling of disconnect from the music while those who create from the music will always be connected to it.

Krow moved more organic and within his style witch made his movement look cool
But sloppy. You can tell he kinda came in with the mindset of I’mma just throw blow up after blow up. If krow developed his usage of control like within the music he would be unbeatable. Because he has the creativity and moves down.
Now with arsenal. I think arsenals reliability is on his creative and premeditated concepts. Which is hard to judge because since it’s so built of character he has to showcase at the highest form. If he doesn’t come off damn near flawless because it’s so prepped.. it takes away from his rounds. He also doesn’t move as organic as he could if he was just dancing. I’ve seen him really dance and turn up on someone so I know he can do it.
I see how this match up on paper would look crazy. It didn’t meet the standards i think the names hold but it was a solid match up.

Krow is the sexy man in my nightmares. Lol. He haunts me in a good way. I enjoyed his performance. Arsenal is one of my favorite Flex Dancers. His creativity is top tier to me. I understand how you feel cause I had to watch it over again. I didn't have that excited feeling like I did after watching Jesse and Flash drive but I feel like Arsenal's took this battle. He's very smart when combining flex and creativity. Where as like you said Krow was basically doing the same stuff for 3 rounds. This Battle was Good but it didn't hit my higher expectations I had in my mind either.

That energy your looking for is with the bruk up dancers but they dont really battle as much as the flexers do i hope more of them do. very very few flexers can fully bruk up. Storm can do flexing and bruk up extremely well i hope he has more battles this year.

Bruh I completely agree with you. I think generally a battle is supposed to be a communication but there honestly wasn’t much if not any at all. I feel like Krow usually goes wild when he can build off that energy, but Arsenal wasn’t really doing anything to permit him to do that because it was almost like a performance more for himself and the crowd rather than trying to beat Krow. Don’t get me wrong either, I really liked Arsenal’s rounds in terms of skill but the props are not for me. To add to what you were saying about the groove, I think the word you were looking for was soul. The rounds were kind of soulless and nothing was really conveyed besides impressive moves. I think today that’s a lot of the issues with dancing too is that people are so focused on seeing power moves and all the beats get hit instead of feeling the energy or the soul of the dance. That for me is what dance has always meant, and I wasn’t feeling it in this one a ton 🤷🏽‍♂️

When I first saw FlexN (a round from Havoc), the thing that popped in my head was spoken word. Now I see it as more of a dance version of a rap battle, which made me enjoy it a lot. Asked Boogie Frantick in a class once about his view on whether concepts should inform movement or should come off to the audience through movement, and he responded with the former. Here, it's more of the latter, with a feeling of "this is what I can do concept and movement-wise that'll give me the W over you," rather than the personal shade thrown in a rap battle.

Arsenal rounds are more about a story … ok to be short round 1 Arsenal did the wizard of oz to play off Krow name. The intro was a play on how krow is so feared hence the “Krow commandments”. 2nd round he was just drunk as far as I can see. 3rd round was the rawest for me. Krow is said to be Thanos so Arsenal did an avengers round. I think you were turned off simply because of your personal dance taste . Which is fine. I prefer movement myself

Bro your analysis is so no nonsense and on point 🤣🤣🤣🤣 honestly the concepts is like ok but where’s the dancing 🕺 shit was baddddd but the creativity was elite I give it to crow tho

I have to echo a lot of what you said about this one. I feel like this format doesn't click with me. Though with Arsenal's second round using a battle rap clip from a 2 on 2, it kinda gave me an 'ah-ha' moment. Battlefest's style vs a more traditional battle reminds me of how battle rap has evolved. From the 'Who has more rounds? Who is the best off the head? Battle everyone standing on the corner' mentality of the old battle rap era to this new era where creativity in presentation (and execution of such) can 'win' over someone who has superior technical skill. Battlefest (and the community around it ) seems to encourage going off on concepts and creativity where hitting a beatkill or something surprising is like landing the big performative moment in a rap battle.
And I'm not trying to take anything away from Krow and Arsenal. Krow has movement that fucking makes my head hurt and an ability to move around in these unnatural ways that defies logic in my head. Arsenal has an insane amount of creativity in his concepts and confidence in said concepts to let them take up so much space and to be able to pull off things with said props with one take. If he had knocked the broomstick out of his hand at any point during the balancing parts, it would have ruined that round. And his concept for the Avengers round was a real cool idea once I caught onto it. But I feel like I could have taken all six songs and swapped them randomly and I wouldn't have lost anything in the round (with a possible exception for the Avengers round). There is something about the style of dance and hearing that same overpowering kickdrum pattern that makes me feel like the dancers are dancing independent of the song and line up at the end of 4 bars for a beatkill rather than to the song. It's something I just don't quite 'get', I suppose. Again, not to take away from Krow and Arsenal. Both are extremely talented and creative.
I hope to see them both run into each other in the tournament and see how this battle would go on a more 'traditional' sort of encounter.

Honestly, I just don't understand these forms of dancing. It'll never register with me. I would legit rather see someone doing the electric slide in rhythm than watch these styles of dance. I'll always appreciate your perspective so I just endure through the dancing, lol.
Lmaoooooo. You was sounding just as confused as I was now that I hear it.

I've tried to watch these type of battle events with an open mind..... its just not doing it for me. As time goes on, the dance culture to me is starting to lose its essence when money and fame becomes the focus. Everything in a person's dance at these flexing battles is centered around winning a battle instead of actually dancing your best and creating/connecting to the music. Just like the music these days, music artist have very little connection to the art and the roots of it all. Ive seen Arsenal freestyle at a Les Twins class I think in Baltimore. For that 30 secs he was actually pretty cool. I know these guys have the ability to dance well and learn but I don't think most of dancers in these type of events are invested in the overall dance culture and learning more when the you can shoot up the ladder quick in these events. In the end I'm not a dancer so I'm open to learning and being corrected but I'm just not feeling it.

I'm no fan of these battles because it's premeditated dance like pacman ect do. It's Creative and athletic but doesn't do it for me. I'd rather see slim, soul, dsoul, mt pop, paradox ect be creative in the moment and change timings and styles than this.. I do think krow is dope tho because iv never seen bone breaking use so well. That was creative and he was dancing through his moves
