OG has by far the best skin color on my ThinkPad screen (guessing here, I don't know you, but I've been struggling with the skin colors on Panasonic MFT for years and developed a rather critical eye for facial colors in general - that Pana trauma has made me experienced). The slow mo is best done by Canon. I'll consider getting this Leica 25 mm f/1.4, looks like it's much better for Pana than the Oly 25 mm f/1.8 which in itself is not bad. But you don't know before you compare them side by side. Cheers to you from across the ocean!
Maybe I'm just old and dumb, but I genuinely don't get the "make or break" mentality when it comes to 1080 vs 4k. I don't think I've ever watched a video in 1080 and felt disappointed strictly because it wasn't recorded in 4k.
Depends on camera. Most cameras that do 4K do it excellently, especially with the option to shoot downsampled 4K. Some cameras make the 1080p footage look terrible. My Fujifilm X-A7 shoots 1080p30 with the quality of some higher end cameras doing 1080p120 of 240 which is to say, over sharpened and slightly blurry/pixelated. Not great, but it does pretty nice 4K. At 720p it can fake VHS with some editing.
4K isn't for you. It's for the production. The crew could shoot 4K for a super nice HD delivery. Or they could shoot with a 3K window, allowing some room to reframe, whether in or out.
I just wanted to drop by and let you know that you are hands down one of the funniest and most educated personalities on UA-cam! Ahh the old “i mossed a great deal on ebay, so now i will go all in on some piece of poop, to compensate for it”, Weve all done that. A tragic tale of the consumer internet economy.
As far as color I would say based on this video. Nikon Z30 - I'm always shocked at how good it looks. BM Pocket OG - Right up there with the Nikon. BM Pocket 4K - Slightly worse. Canon R8 - Big drop-off, WB looks kind of weird though. Sony A7SIII - Hurts to see it down here, still makes up for it in nearly every other aspect.
I think raw formats not to look better, but to allow you to make mistakes, like WB settings and so on. Make a test, record WB off for a 3000k, and then corrected it in post
The Blackmagic does look better visually in that the colours seem more accurate. If you'd like to try something different, what about a Sigma FP? I'd be interested to see what you can do with it and what you make of it.
Congrats on the purchase! I am pumped to see more… take that baby outside on a sunny day, it will destroy everything you own yes - but you kinda have to work for it lol. I did the same thing a few months ago. Gh5 so much easier to use in comparison, but you know, once you’re on a tripod, nail the exposure, manually focus on something, and learn the colour grading part, those images you can get will be … some percentage better than on the non-cine cam
I know you regret missing out on that original deal, but seriously Kasey, that Pocket 3 is sitting there in that little condom you bought for it, doing nothing and destroying everything. Once you have that Pocket 3, everything else is like a Casio QV 10.
11:05 I would just always go with the camera that gives me the cleanest image. You can always manipulate it in post, but sharpening a soft image is a nightmare
@@Emerald_City_ I agree. I’m not talking about sharpening specifically. At the end, you were always have an easier time, softening a high-res sharp image, then sharpening a low res mushy image. In my opinion 1080 most of the time enough, but if you want to be flexible you are not going wrong with Sony. I’m not a fan by any means. The camera just works. I would like to be able to manipulate sharpening tho.
I love this image. I loved it since the Gerald gave it to you to vlog with. It absolutely gorgeous. The OG looks solid and decent. But yeah the HDMI is a Deal-breaker. I wouldn't accept it if the port is broken. Check it with another cable, maybe is the cable faulty.
You should get a chunk of money back for the faulty HDMI port on your BMPCC4K. I had the BMPCC4K. I miss using BRAW. I look forward to more BMPCC4K footage. Regarding focus for the BM camera, I recommend getting some native M4/3 lenses.
suggest me a good cheap camera. 1080p 60 fps is enough for me, mainly indoor use, sometimes vlogging. I will appreciate good colors and less or no noise in relatively low light.
The biggest take on this whole video is make sure you ask too many questions and you test the camera before handing over the money! I just had 2 ebay purchases that said NIB, when I got the cameras, they were far from NIB, missing stuff, odds and ends in boxes that don't belong. I feel the anger! I understand. That Nikon Z30 is amazing! I think the BMPCC 1080p camera looks good too. 1080p is perfect if your content is great no one cares! Keep the faith Kasey! Buyer's remorse is a constant in the photographic/video lifestyle!
Congrats on the 4k. Yeah go get a fully functioning one. It’s a manual centered cinema style shooting machine. You might need that port for monitor use. No IR cut built in, you will need a filter to avoid IR contamination muddy blacks. Lot’s of recording options. Braw, ProRes, Gen 5 color science. Dual ISO, S35 sized sensor as opposed to the OG’s 16 mm. Good sound with options. I’ve been looking at the new micro studio for form factor with basically the same innards for other uses. I like mine and you can get some great footage out of it especially for the price. Not the best for vlogging but use, explore, and have fun. Some great work has been done on some of them.
I thank you very much for all that you went through. I can't wait to see the 4k raw in the wild 👌🐻 Today I liked the OG. Sold two of them myself. In the future I will buy the bmpcc 4k because I have some 4/3 glass.
I was being anti new camera and just bought a mint p4k for $700. Bought a pd movie lidar and went to town. Probably the best camera combo on the market currently. Even got the .64 Metabones 😂. Almost $2k into it now. Surprisingly worth it. 12 bit internal 4k
Give it 3 months, Casey will quit UA-cam, like the current trend, and go full time into Cinema production leaving crap amateur cameras like the A7sIII in the dust!!!
I don't get it. There was a brief period in maybe 2016/17 when the BM made sense if you were deep into the lens system and making a low budget film. For anything else it doesn't make sense - I don't get it.
This is on point. The dude is funny as heck, but I've watched a few videos and one thing is consistent.. he has no idea what he is doing and has suspiciously high amounts of cash to prove it.
At 10:30 the Sony’s bit has a bunch of banding on the walls in the back, while the 12 bit Pocket 4k does not. Speaks volumes of how much more color information is in the 12 bit BRAW. The Sony is also ghosting the image around your head, BRAW is soooo much better!
I have way too many cameras, lenses, microphones and recorders, and I find myself questioning each purchase, then buying more. I feel like Nero in the Matrix. I see the conspiracy. They release new gear along with specs, charts and graphs explaining why our old gear sucks and why we need to upgrade, then I buy the new stuff and it's hard to tell where the "Improvements" are. I've seen films, so I should know what the heck Film Look means, but I can't exactly define it because the difference is so subtle. As long as you get a decent focus and lighting, and have a decent mic in your face, what people care about most is the content. You could've shot this whole thing with a 20 year old VHS camera and we'd still love it, just because you're in it and you make it fun to watch. In 2009, my first UA-cam video was me testing out a $99 microphone on a $75 interface with a cheap camera and a cheesy background. Since then I've purchased at least $10,000 in audio gear, even more on cameras, and that $99 microphone still sounds just as good as my $1300 Neumann. We've reached the point where just about every video can look great with the right lights, a decent mic, and a bit of software tweaking. The differences in "Color Science" are another wild card because a lot of people still tinker with colors in post. Even if you compare the red shirt by holding it up to your monitor and telling us which one matches that exact shade of red, the funny thing is your monitor may not be accurate and the cameras that you didn't think matched the real shirt could actually be the best match on another monitor.
man sometimes ill look at old m43 images and be like man its so unique and more character..full frame has a look but its hard to seperate from other ff cameras
I hate it when people don't take care of their stuff, never makes sense to me. And yeah i probably would've run away when I saw he didn't even have the caps for the lens, but i understand the pressure of buying it in the moment.
I had a BMPCC4k, the P4K2ALEXA powergrade was magic! I ended up selling all my gear and moving to a Sony A7IV + G 20MM 1.8 for easier run and gunning. I film a lot of moving vehicles so autofocus was a must
@@RafalGendarz whenever you start moving the camera a little bit, the bmpcc4k wins as the rolling shutter is almost a non-issue, especially in comparison to the a7iv (I have both)
I use the BMPCC4k at work. One issue with the HDMI is, if you shoot in 4k you can only see the picture on a 4k monitor, an HD monitor will not work. I hope that is all that is causing your problem. I actually like the camera a lot. I wouldn't buy one for what you do or for what I would want a camera for outside of work but it's a great, easy to use camera. The one big flaw, is the button on the back that changes the frame rate. Wtf is that doing there?! We've lost footage because that button got press accidentally.
IIRC, another issue is they don’t output raw over hdmi or something like that, you don’t get full range on the scope readings. Atleast with atomos, that was my experience anyways.
Oh my friend, I feel sorry for you! I too have gone through this, and sold my Bmpcc4k immediately… Even the OG is somewhat better, at least it’s a unique gem of a camera…
Could someone with real experience with these cameras please share their insights? I currently own a BMPCC6K, and I’m considering trying out the BMPCC OG. I’ve heard great things about it, but honestly, most of the footage I see from the BMPCC OG on UA-cam doesn’t look as impressive to me. In contrast, footage from the BMPCC6K and BMPCC4K often looks like high-budget cinema. What’s the actual difference between them? And can CinemaDNG from the BMPCC OG come close to the BRAW Gen 5 quality from my BMPCC6K?
For in studio work? Nikon z30, and later a full frame Nikon, preferably zf or z6iii when it comes out. Its studio. It doesn’t matter much. The bmpcc4k Braw will step away from them all in harsh uncontrolled light. Davinci tames the Braw easily. Also use polarizer to tame highlights down another stop or 2. But for studio? Just shoot Nikon and keep it easy on yourself. I’ll try to get some free time soon and try out my 0.64x booster on my bmpcc4k. Lensbaby twist 60 should be sick on it.
that was always my concern i really want to try a blackmagic camera, but with the pyxis or whatever out now , might be my go to now. plus the body shape of it is like one of those balloon cameras people at the park make you. BUT then on the other side i have friends who make amazing short films with it. lol. Black magic also need like just like their own mount or something
Worst case the hdmi can be repaired for a couple hundo if you can find someone who does board repairs. Either the connector or the hdmi chip needs to be replaced.
You have two channels basically devoted to acne. One about camera angles to reduce acne. The other about diet and acne. Because you want to be a Kardashian.
not usual acne, definitely. Same shit happenswith me few years ago, it is virus that travel by synapses from spinal gangles down to nerve exit point, and it very symmetrical, always hit same point on other half of body. There are many of them, most known is Herpes but many other exist and not very well studied. You barely can do anything with it, only do common sense like better food, sport, try to our inner defence system peace it. For me, that shit tend to activate when I go outrage for some reason, like upset of someone absolutely fool action. Peaceful, calm healthy life what all we need.
Tell your mum that this kid cheated and she will talk to his mum and than you can give the camera back to him and we all will forget the horrors we had to witness today 😂 Honestly though, love the OG BMP footage and also the canon and the Sony one. The BMP4K, nahhh… Awesome video, thanks for that, cheers mate 😊🙏🏻
It seems as though your new botched BMPCC purchase was previously owned by the Uruguayan soccer team that flight crashed in 1972. "Alive" in a Society of Snowstorms" but with a few pieces missing.
Kasey the BM4K was definitely worth it for the channel, and, the learning experience. :) But yeah. FF Nikon next. For sure. And how about this - try "Filmconvert Nitrate" with the Z30 (and others) - that could be true cinema for very reasonable $$.
The focusing issues aside, the Nikon z30 nails the reds for sure. Pretty important with skintones. You can see the wackiness of every camera with the reds.. why You might ask? It boils down to a good IR filter in front of the chip.. Sony is too subdued for my taste... but could be easily corrected in post.
The BMPCC 4k focus was poor. Even when in focus I did not think it was better than the R8 or the Nikon Z30 (which looked fantastic). I reckon some of your best studio stuff has been when shooting with the EOS R as FHD rather than 4K is more flattering for the skin. However, the image from the Nikon really looked great...
Got started on the BCPCC4 (US1300.00) in 2020and resolve. Sold it cheap after leaving real estate photography. It was recommended and it was all I knew.
why dont you get the PDMOVIE AF kit it works really well for talking heads, its. must for the BMPCC4K or GH6...I will post some test . yes the app is not the best .lol it needs a monitor....my OG HDMI broke again...i use. a lope viewer
I’m embarrassed to admit this, but I liked the look of the Sony best. Regardless, the facial expressions on the right-hand you while the left-hand you is speaking had me laughing out loud - not as hard as when you enabled all the Sony beauty modes, but still made my day.
This man is basically the Kanye West of UA-cam content creators and I mean that as a compliment to how versatile he is between the music making, video editing etc.
Exceptionally creative and versatile, but has a solitary job... with an illusion to communicate with the whole world while actually he's sitting alone in his room entangled in JTrudeau's barbed wire.
Oh man, this has got to sting. Been there. Can you still return it tho? I mean you bought it used so it's probably an "all sales are final" kind of situation.
The BlackMagic 4K had more appealing skin tones, when in focus and some reasonable grading applied. The downside of your deal is the fact that this camera sounds like it was stolen by a crackhead. What you received reads like a police report. When addicts go "shopping" they grab the big things and miss all of the important details.
2 surprise i got in this video IMO. 1> Bmpcc Og is still the King for cult classic. Colour and 3D pop is amazing for that little camera. 2>Nikon Z30 beat everthing. ps. sorry for your bad deal camera. Hope you can return the camera and get a better deal next time. The image and 3D pop on Bmpcc 4k + Leica lens is nice but the color is more on cooler tone compare to other cameras. and with all the hustle you have to deal with then it might not be a good camera for one man band filming a bird, right? Also I want to see how you feel (and rants lol) when taking it outside and shoot a wildlife with it.
By the way.... buy a used Canon EOS M with the newest Magic Lantern it looks AMAZING!!!! (Raw 12bit! Manual focus) .... or slightly less cinematic a Canon EOS 700D with latest Magic lantern (with flip screen and maybe autofocus)

man sometimes ill look at old m43 images and be like man its so unique and more character..full frame has a look but its hard to seperate from other ff cameras
I hate it when people don't take care of their stuff, never makes sense to me. And yeah i probably would've run away when I saw he didn't even have the caps for the lens, but i understand the pressure of buying it in the moment.
I felt personally attacked when you said, filming your mom's plant in her backyard 😭
I had a BMPCC4k, the P4K2ALEXA powergrade was magic! I ended up selling all my gear and moving to a Sony A7IV + G 20MM 1.8 for easier run and gunning. I film a lot of moving vehicles so autofocus was a must
I had same setup, how you would compare image quality slog3 to braw?
@@RafalGendarz whenever you start moving the camera a little bit, the bmpcc4k wins as the rolling shutter is almost a non-issue, especially in comparison to the a7iv (I have both)
@@rolithesecond yes but i have the fullframe 6 k so its probably worse lol
It works occasionally. It's a quad HD monitor.
"filming his moms plants. in his back yard". cackling
Wow the Nikon Z30 40mm t2 is the most 3D pop of them all!
I need a you in my life. Buying everything just because you're there.
that was always my concern i really want to try a blackmagic camera, but with the pyxis or whatever out now , might be my go to now. plus the body shape of it is like one of those balloon cameras people at the park make you. BUT then on the other side i have friends who make amazing short films with it. lol. Black magic also need like just like their own mount or something
I'm so glad I found your channel
I preffer the BMPCC4k image quality every time over the A7Siii
Tell your mum that this kid cheated and she will talk to his mum and than you can give the camera back to him and we all will forget the horrors we had to witness today 😂
Honestly though, love the OG BMP footage and also the canon and the Sony one. The BMP4K, nahhh…
Awesome video, thanks for that, cheers mate 😊🙏🏻
It seems as though your new botched BMPCC purchase was previously owned by the Uruguayan soccer team that flight crashed in 1972. "Alive" in a Society of Snowstorms" but with a few pieces missing.
Curious if Kasey gets a refund or if the guy claims it worked fine before he sold the camera.
Bruhhh , got my first !
best ever

What is it?
Kasey the BM4K was definitely worth it for the channel, and, the learning experience. :)
But yeah.
I love my Pocket 4k. I want the full frame for real estate work but for now, I’ll use the 9mm Panasonic lens.
I would never keep that thing with AF so rotten!
I’m embarrassed to admit this, but I liked the look of the Sony best. Regardless, the facial expressions on the right-hand you while the left-hand you is speaking had me laughing out loud - not as hard as when you enabled all the Sony beauty modes, but still made my day.
OG is actually gone back to by many professionals and they say we have evolved to fast missing how great it is. Thoughts?
Canon R8 wins hands down. Thanks for taking one for the team though!
Yes the switching on/off is disturbing af. You can attach monitor to see yourself
Broken hdmi. Where to add the monitoe
@@barryobrien1890 yea…
This man is basically the Kanye West of UA-cam content creators and I mean that as a compliment to how versatile he is between the music making, video editing etc.
That's a weird compliment man.
Exceptionally creative and versatile, but has a solitary job... with an illusion to communicate with the whole world while actually he's sitting alone in his room entangled in JTrudeau's barbed wire.
I think you meant the Owen Benjamin of camera reviewers.
An electronics repair shop can repair/replace your HDMI port for a very reasonable cost.
Oh man, this has got to sting. Been there. Can you still return it tho? I mean you bought it used so it's probably an "all sales are final" kind of situation.
Bro you are hilarious!!!! And very knowledgeable!!!!! You have made a subscriber out of me
You should check for "motion cadence" when judging "cinematic"
The BlackMagic 4K had more appealing skin tones, when in focus and some reasonable grading applied. The downside of your deal is the fact that this camera sounds like it was stolen by a crackhead. What you received reads like a police report. When addicts go "shopping" they grab the big things and miss all of the important details.
I’m a reformed audiophile. All of this makes sense to me.
"How I got scammed and how to avoid it"
Try DR Color Management in Resolve. It will make you cry.
I feel your pain man. Canon makes you look like a real boy.
For me it was a toss up between the black magic 4k or the GH6 and I’m kinda glad I went for the GH6.
one limitation/contradiction is reviewing the filmic potential of a camera using a vlogging format.
Honestly, the BMPCC 4K looks amazing. Good buy.
on my 55 inch 4K TV it looked terrible. But that’s just my opinion.
On my 150inch projected image it looked great
Turn down sharpness to minimum on TV. @@mjklein
This had me crying! So great
By the way.... buy a used Canon EOS M with the newest Magic Lantern it looks AMAZING!!!! (Raw 12bit! Manual focus) .... or slightly less cinematic a Canon EOS 700D with latest Magic lantern (with flip screen and maybe autofocus)
I have had 2 of this cameras for 4 years plus speed buster and I have no need for something new!
