So happy you’re back, Preston. I’m young and can’t afford some of the beautiful shoes featured on your channel, but you taught me enough to patina and polish some cheap ones until I can. I really appreciate you sharing your wisdom and craft.
It is great to have you back Preston. And congratulations to you both on the birth of your bonny baby. May he be blessed with health, love and happiness 🎊❤️🎊❤️
Preston, you son is beautiful! I’m so happy that everything is going well with the little guy and that your beautiful family had expanded! Cherish these times with your son, he will be calling you “bruh” before you know it!
Greetings from Finland. Hope your family and newborn is in good health. I´ve been waiting eagerly your new videos, meanwhile polishing my new spring/summer shoes. Nice to have you back.
So glad to see that your back! Sons are such a gift, I just gave my oldest (6 years old) his first shoe shine brush the other day. I pray you come to know the same joy!
Your reviews are such a pleasure. Were it not for being retired and spending way too much time in worn flip-flops, I’d be strutting proudly in one of your selections and looking well…. productive …
Great to have you back and again many congratulations! Once again your work is on point as well as the commentary. Very articulate and I thought you managed to get your opinions across in a very respectful and informative manner. Cheers from Colorado.
Those split-toe derbys, wow! I agree they seem an odd design when you first see them but they grow on you. I used to think a seam at the toe meant 'cheap shoe' because it looks like they're stitching small, scrap panels together to get a shoe out of them. But now I like them for being smack in the middle between utilitarian and dressy, especially when you get some unusual stitching effects like that braided look on the apron of this pair. Lucky you!
Congratulations on your new edition to your family. Excellent video and thank you for giving us your review. Looking to purchase from TLB Mallorca and this was very informative to say the least.
Man that leather is beautiful. I just want to devour it with my eyes, keep looking at all the rich details over and over again. It's so bold but elegant.
I remember that years ago we had at work a guy who came to shine shoes and also will take some additional shoes you brought and shines those..that was a nice perk you don't hear anymore about
Happy to see you back and congrats on the newest addition to Soto family. One point of interest with the split-toe is the quality "pie-crust" that is a developed from premiere craftsmanship in sewing. These look fantastic, but it is another metric to differentiate quality between like-styles. Last thing, you mentioned hand-welted shoes as next-level or price-to-quality milestone. Have you ever reviewed Vass? If not, I'll send you a couple pair to shine and review.
Great review! My only worry about those shoes is fitment. I don’t even know how their different lasts are different. It took a lot of trial and error for me to find my size in cobbler union and Allen Edmonds. My just ordering different sizes from TLB’s mainline to see what works. It just gets to be a bit arduous and I hate wasting their time with different trials. Ps: congrats on the baby!
Sorry to hear about medical issues your wife had. That's a tough one. But glad to hear that things are back to normal! I got into split-toes years ago simply because I liked the style. Oxfords come off as too formal and the split-toes are perfect for my style. Even when it's a bit formal or wearing a suit. The TLB split-toes are gorgeous. While I think the Museum Calf is gorgeous, I think people would go overboard on it and get many of their shoes in that style. Reserve that type of calf for special occasions I say. Keep up the great work.
Preston!!! So glad you’re back!! My favorite you tuber! I was worried you were a goner! These shoes are stunning. I have been looking at the TLB artista split toe monk-strap in brown museum calf. Really wanting to pull the trigger on those. What brands are the ties and pocket squares?? Would be cool if you did some mini reviews on those types of products in the future. Great video!
Hey Andrew, the ties and pocket squares are by Gentlemans Gazette. The dark brown tie is vintage though and belonged to my dad. Raphael makes some of my favorite ties give them an try
3:45 "Balmoral". I never realised that feature had a name. Knowledge is power! It doesn't look so bad on an ankle boot because of the height, but on shoes I think it looks wrong--why should there be a dividing line half way up the side of a shoe?
thanks for the review, and great visuals! a word on quality and pricing. besides leather quality, design features and sole material, one has to consider build quality. granted, in order to assess that you need to cut them open and/or actually wear them for a couple of months, perhaps a year to see how they hold up. the construction of the shoe, while invisible, can bring the price up considerably, and on the other side, is a place certain brands(not tlb) cut costs because the consumer doesn't see.
I've been looking for boots for quite some time, I found a great pair from Carmina, and now you showcased these beauties ! I will probably have to choose between the two brands when I will purchase a new pair.
Man... really missed your videos! Your cinematography is very pleasing and the way you present these shoes makes me go awww! No I want a pair of dark brown Museum calf balmorals as well! You really sold them to me haha Haven’t gotten any TLB shoes yet, was always opting for Carmina. But I guess TLB does indeed offer some more finer details for the same price. One question, what’s your opinion on the sizing? Is ist comparable to Carminas? Looking forward to more content of yours! Congrats on your second child 🎉
April 28 is my birth date! Congratulations on the new baby. On the Derby, you discuss the stitching on the top. Wouldn't shining the shoes and subsequent rubbing wear those stitches?
Preston, could you, please, show us how you shined them? Because of interesting texture and mixed shades of brown I would like to see what color of shoe creams you’ve used🤗
Given the finish on these shoes, will you be using something other than Renovateur? I have heard Renovateur may remove patinas from some shoes and so something not quite so harsh should be used like Creme Universelle instead. Asking because I just got some new shoes with a patina and after trying Renovateur on a small spot at the heel area it seemed like the patina was being removed.
Renovator can be too strong for crust leathers but for the most part it’s safe for pretty much anything. I use it on all my dye jobs and it works fine. If you’re having trouble than yes something like creme universal would be the right fit
Thanks for making videos Preston :) Shoes over $1,000 are more likely a result of conspicuous consumption. I don't know what was misattributed to you, I imagine some people would be unhappy if someone said that a shoe half the price is better than the more expensive competitor.
Hey, Davide. I’d say both are top quality. The main difference would definitely be the 2 inch beveled waist, which in my opinion puts TLB ahead, all things considered

I missed your videos so much. So happy for your family, congratulations on the birth of your son. I do have one question about the video; The shoe tress you put in the boots, where did you get them?
Hi Preston, would you say TLB's G width is closer to AE 65 last's E or EE width? Toni suggest 8G for my measurement, but since I wear 9EEE in AE 65 last I thought I should get 8H.
Congratulations on the birth of your son.
You two deserve every bit of happiness this baby is going to bring you!
I missed you! Today is a good day. Don't worry, I still shined my shoes while you were gone, so everything was fine.

Is the museum a patina (or like a patina) that should not have the renovator applied? Use the napa or other lotion?
