Vladimir's one of my favorite UA-camrs! Super underrated, but his content is top-notch! Also, I'd love it if you can review a pair from Cobbler Union. They're around the same price as these but easily outclass Allen Edmonds and other brands in the price range
Vladimir Riché hey man I first heard about this brand on your channel and was wondering if you have any knowledge on TLB’s Main line and how they compare to the Artista line?
@@MrCoachab What's up, bro? TLB's main line uses leather board heel stiffeners while Artista uses real leather. Their waist is a little beveled, Artista is really beveled. The main line uses 6 stitches per inch, Artista uses 8. Also, the way that the heel is cut towards the upper is a lot tighter on the Artista.
Vladimir Riché Bro thanks for the insight, your channel is keeping sane through this pandemic, unfortunately if I keep watching my bank account will be empty 😂.....
Every recommendation I’ve taken from Vladimir Riche has been spot on. TLB, Carlos Santos, Spier & MacKay, all excellent. I need something from the Artista line but I wish they had tan in stock in semi brogue.

@@thatxonexguy5438 Marketing and brand recognition. That easily makes up 80% of the cost of high segment shoes. Or did you think paying the actual shoemaker and materials costed €1200 per shoes?

Thanks for your reviews on TLB! I've chosen them as the supplier of my first proper pair of dress shoes! I've ordered the TLB Artista 109 Balmoral Oxford on the Goya last, in black boxcalf, and added a special request to remove the brogueing on the toe cap, so it's really close to a traditional black cap toe Oxford, but it has that beautiful horizontal Balmoral line. JR soles finish them off, no toe plates because I'll be wearing these rather infrequently, perhaps once or twice a year. Thanks again, I'm SO excited to receive them!
My third pair from TLB is coming this week.I have one pair of boots, 1 mto boots and the last one incoming is a double monks with special leather not even available on the website. Also Toni is a really sweet person.
Love this one! I have always wanted to buy something from TLB and usually chose something from Cobbler Union instead. But CU raised their prices by 20% across the board after Covid and TLB didn't. I've always been hesitant to customize my shoes order as I can never figure out exactly what I want, and customizing is usually difficult and pricey. I never realized how easy it is (and cheaper) to customize TLB shoes and now I'm definitely going to get a few things. Thanks so much!
Even better are Lof and Tung on sale (like when they have low inventory and want to sell them quickly) The S Last can also accommodate certain wide foot shapes. I'm a US 9.5 EEE in Allen Edmond's 65 last and a 10.5 US (9.5 UK) in the Lof and Tung S Last

Great video as always :) As a small comment in regard to the video title I'd like to point out that the region where you live is always a crucial factor when determining price segments. For example: If you live in Germany (or anywhere else in the EU) a TLB Mallorca cap toe oxford costs 365€ (~ 432$) while the Carmina equivalent to that costs 395€ (~467$). For such a small price difference I would go for a pair of Carmina shoes any day, especially because all their different last options help you to ensure a perfect fit (which is imho the most important factor when investing in a good pair of dress shoes). ~ Love from Germany
Very impressed with Toni. Had a chat and he is making me a pair with an increased instep height and suggested I did not buy the Oxfords because of the high instep. So I ordered a pair of Derbys with shoe trees.
Hey Abe. Unfortunately last letters like G and H aren’t the same across all brands. If there’s a shoe you are Interested in, there’s probably more info you can get from the seller.
Great review Preston. I have a pair of MTO Derbys from TLB Mallorca. Anxiously awaiting another MTO pair from them. These will be on the Picasso Last. Black Whole Cuts with a floating medallion. Can't wait to get them. Keep the videos coming my friend.
Thanks for your great videos, they are always fun and instructive to watch. I have a question, what do you think about Velasca shoes? Could you review some?
Thank you so much for this video! I have known about TLB from you and Hugo. Since I have a very narrow feet (92 mm wide while 270 mm long) and high arch, Carmina lasts are not for me. I hope that another brand from Mallorca will suit my needs!
The only "true" competition I could think of would be Antonio Meccariellos Entry line Aeris, where he brings actual bespoke details like a proper fiddle back waist and pitched heels to shoes that are about the same price (He is a bespoke shoemaker himself). Only disadvantages are limited availability through his store and few, mostly burgunds colored, models. They also have to be shipped and imported from Italy.
Yes no doubt about it. AM is one of the most artisanal shoe makers out there . At about $470, AM shoes are more expensive than TLB but at $399, I’d say TLB is still the best shoe for the price even though AM makes a better shoe hands down. Vass is another competitor, they offer a Handwelted shoe with JR soles for a similar price. Good insight thanks for the comment
I always enjoy your reviews. I order a pair from the Artista line. I ordered my usual UK size and let’s just say the experience was all down hill from there. I wasn’t comfortable with going down another 1/2 size on one foot and a full size on the other. I’ve been a US 11C UK 10E my entire life. Took the time to have my size checked locally and I am still a US 11C. I forwarded that information to them and the response I received by email was We have canceled your order! So while they look like good quality shoes I think I will stick with my Crockett & Jones.
TLB was already on my list as the next pair of shoes I was planning on buying.....very interested to hear who that other brand might be that you think is in the conversation with TLB under $500, figure since you've already done Carmina and J Fitzpatrick reviews it's not either of them. Based on what I know I'd have to guess it's Cobbler Union or Carlos Santos (though I'm ready to be surprised). Good video, can't wait until the next one.
Hey, Alex. The company I was referring to was Vass Budapest. They offer a Handwelted shoe with JR soles, stock from the factory for under $500 It’s a close race and you could make a solid argument for either. The next step up after that is Antonio Meccariello, Enzo Bonafe, and Y by Yeossal.
@@TheElegantOxford haha...I was going to say Vass, but when I looked them up before posting I only saw them listed for just over $500 (about $550)....I was also going to guess Enzo Bonafe and Y by Yeossal but held back for the same reason. My only issue with Vass is that, though I've yet to own a pair, they seem to have a slightly bulkier aesthetic. Great value regardless. Really appreciate your response. Love the attention you're paying to details in your reviews. In all honesty it really is a tough choice among all the brands in these price points. As of now I own AE (though would not buy again), J Fitzpatrick, Cobbler Union, and Carmina - but TLB is next on the list...keep up the great videos.
@@TheElegantOxford , completely agree with both points. Would love to see you review Cobbler Union and Carlos Santos. I have to say I love my go to brands J Fitzpatrick, Cobbler Union, TLB, and Carmina, though always happy to find more....like a black whole cut from Crockett and Jones....after that price point I think I'd just save and go bespoke.
What a great review. This small shoe company looks to be amazing. I've joined the "shoe game" only in January of this year. My exposure has been exclusively Allen Edmonds as I've bought four pair and really enjoy all of them. This TLB Mallorca shoe is neck in neck in price but to be able to get the JR outsole for such a reasonable price, looks to be a deal maker. I was planning on getting the AE Strand shoe in walnut for my next investment. I'm going to think long and hard now that I've seen what TLB offers. Wow! What a great shoe. Thanks for the education Preston. Mike
Hey, Robert. In a head to head, TLB comes out on top. They don’t make Shell Cordovan which is where Carmina shines but TLB has them beat everywhere else. The fine details are just too good
Thanks for the video. You should convince Tony that TLB should offer metal toe caps and patina as factory options for the custom shoes. Looking forward to the next video, as I have just gotten a almost similar pair from TLB in walnut. If you want a pair to try and ad patina, I can send you mine. Actually I am thinking about stripping them down, so they become lighter in color, and the add some patina on the toe etc. Would you recommend me to do that?
I love TLB. The loafers from the regular line are my fav. I have one from the Artista line but I find the real leather heel is really hard to break in. The regular line is just as good imo. I just received loafer from Sons of Henrey and they're super nice. Maybe it's just me, but I think TLB is the best. Check out SOH next
Hey Preston. You should definitely take a look at Y by Yeossal. They’re shoes are about $550-$600, come with free lasted shoe trees, and have features like fiddleback sole, blind stitching, and pitched or Cuban heels. They have features that you can have trouble finding on $1000-$3000 shoes.
Hey, Matthew. My Y by Yeosall Adelaides should arrive this month so I’m really excited for them. They do offer some really beautiful shoes. Review to come soon. They also unfortunately no longer include free shoe trees
The Elegant Oxford that’s strange. I just ordered a pair of split toe derby’s from their MTO program and it gave me the option to include a pair of trees at no up-charge. Perhaps the RTW line don’t come with them anymore. Either way, they’re probably the best shoes at the >$500 price point. My co-worker had a pair and I almost mistook them for Gaziano & Girling until I took a closer look.
Wonderful video! Keep up the great work. How would you rate TLB's Artista line against Carmina and the non-handgrade offerings from Crockett and Jones?
I’d say Artista is better than both and is equal to the hand grade line. I’ve compared Artista to the hand grade line recently and was really impressed.
Our shoe shine Blog It’s really hard to find brands out there that make 3E width shoes. I’m a12 3E but I can fit in 13E but it’s long. So a 12 UK is really really snug and 13 UK is ridiculous. Same holds true for 46 and 47. So I truly understand why Preston stayed so long with AE. I’m also excited for these reviews to try these brands at the same price points or a little higher. The world of shoes is starting to open up for us sash-quash.
How do the sizes compare to Allen Edmonds for example I wear an 8 EEE in Allen Edmonds. I want to order a custom pair but a little worried about paying a lot for a shoe that may or may not fit.
Hello, Thanks for the excellent review! I was wondering which is the exception that you have in mind that is as good or better for the same price point you mentioned? Looking forward to next videos!
I used Saphir Renovateur on my burgundy vegano TLBs and it removed some of the factory polish and/or finishing, turning my fingers and rag red. They still look good, but I wonder if you could address the pros and cons of using conditioner and the potential risks to factory finishes.
Vass is another shoe brand to consider. Bit more expensive but especially now during the sale they offer a great value shoe which is completely handmade and shows a lot of 'bespoke' details. On top of that they also include a pair of lasted shoe trees.
That is the company I was referring to at the end of the video. I agree with your assessment. Vladimir Riche likes Vass better but I like TLB more. Vass is Handwelted so they do have the leg up but don’t have slim or beveled waists. It’s a very close close call depending on what you prefer
Hi Preston, thanks so much for providing so much great information on dress shoes. I have a question, I've got a pair of ace marks that squeak when I walk. My suspicion is the sounds is coming from the tongue rubbing against the laced area. Do you have any suggestions on fixing this?
Hi, great video. ‘Inverness’ is pronounced ‘in-ver-nesss’. Inverness is a city in Scotland - I’m Scottish. Loved the video and will check out the brand.
GIV-X Those people didn’t let me sleep! I now live overseas. Hope you enjoyed the Highlands. If they are good for anything it’s shooting and no one will miss those seagulls that’s for sure.
I have 12 pairs of TLB Mallorca Artista series shoes and can say I agree with your views here. Oddly, I have red interiors on all of them and double JR soles on 8 of them - great minds, clearly, think alike. I still think I should get more of these shoes as there are more styles I have yet to add to the collection.
Hi Preston, loving the review series you are creating lately. I have a quick question, how would you shine a pair of boots that are a little more hard use than Oxfords for example police or military boots so that they stay professional longer and look great?
Great videos, I have become a fan. You had mentioned in an earlier video that you wear wide shoes. Did you have any issues with the width in these shoes or should you adjust your size when ordering? I wear 11 1/2 eee in Allen Edmunds
Excellent video. How would you say the double leather soles differs from the single leather sole? Would you recommend it for their Chelsea boots for example?
I love double soles. If I could, I’d have them put on all my shoes. It just looks more balanced and robust. Absolutely for Chelsea boots. The only shoe I probably wouldn’t put them on is a black captoe Oxford, since it’s more formal.
I'm looking to buy a pair of black captoe oxfords, and have narrowed it down to Carmina and TLB, however I think this video has made up my mind on TLB. Can you comment on the differences between the newer Van Gogh last and the Picasso? I know they are similar, but it is difficult to really see in the pictures on their site. I am trying to decide between the 128 Artista (Picasso) and the 198 Artista (Van Gogh). Thank you.
Great review, I first heard about this brand on Vladimir Riche’ channel as well, I was wondering if you or Vladimir have any knowledge on TLB’s Main line and what’s the difference if any from the Artista line?
Could anyone suggest a method of removing dark mould stains from a pair of Barker light brown woody's, I have tried everything, nothing is working, in fact the stains have spread out slightly, I would really like to save the shoes from the bin. Thank you if anyone can help.
Dear Preston Soto .. i have to tell you the truth about these types of shoes :.. i have never own shoes like this . never had a reason to wear shoes like this . " I TRULY MEAN THIS " i have been watching your Videos and Because of you SIR i am now looking into a wardrobe change just so i can wear shoes like this .. so THANK YOU SIR,... love all your videos and yes the Mirror shine videos... thanks for all the information you share with us .. i never knew anything about these type of shoes .. but now i have a starting point .......
Nice review, beautiful shoes. Too much broguing for me but that's my opinion. I've never seen a pair of Edward Green's but I'll take your word for it. Glad to see that more and more companies produce great products and that the value/price ratio is increasing for us customers.
How would you compare these shoes to the Meermin Linea Maestro line in terms of value, given that the Linea Maestro shoes are "hand welted" rather than Goodyear welted?
Good question. Linea Meastro feature a Handwelted, JR sole with closed channel stitching for $320 which is a fantastic price. I’d say TLB has finer details than LM. Better welt fudging, higher stitches per inch, slim beveled waist, and better aesthetics. Meermin is great but sometimes their quality isn’t up to par and their leather is stiff. I’d say either is a fantastic choice. If I could only pick one, TLB would get my vote but you could choose LM and be satisfied
You and I made a lot of the same choices from the double oak soles to the red inner and the name on the inside to the lady except I got a black captoe oxford
I’ve watched this review a couple of times now and actually went to their website, I started creating a custom order to the exact same shoe you featured here, as I am new to the world of these higher end type of shoes, I am confused by the width measurements, it asks for me to type in A,B,C, etc and I am not sure how to tell what width I would be or what they using to determine those sizes. I have normal width feet, not super narrow but not wide either....I would say I’m in somewhere in the middle....can you make a recommendation? Love the channel by the way!!!
I have a question for you and anybody who is willing to help, I wear US size 9.5, but I wear 9 on Carmina, Meermin and Magnanni, in UK I wear 8.5. To what size is comparable to in TLB Mallorca, Carlos Santos?. I highly appreciate any help thanks again.
Dear Preston, I am a huge fan of your videos and you have always been very responsive to my questions on UA-cam. I have a question regarding a pair of TLB Mallorca shoes that I just purchased. The shoes are beautiful and fit very well. The problem is that i shined them up when I got them and I am having a problem with the mirror shine. I obtained a mirror shine that looked great, but for some reason, after one wearing the shine cracks and pops off the leather. At first, I thought I shined them too far up toward the vamp, but I took the police off and only mirrored the very tip. The same thing happened after one wearing and also happened to the rear quarters. Is there a coating on the leather that makes this happen? Have you seen this before. Please let me know.

I hope that another brand from Mallorca will suit my needs!
Wow, that shoe speaks quality on every level. Great price. Thanks for posting.
I enjoy everyone of your videos....thank you for making them...
Impecable presentation. Definitely, my next pair of shoes will be TLB. Regards!
Allen Edmonds is currently sitting in a running car, with the garage door closed. They refused to improvise, adapt, and overcome.
Unfortunately they seem to be headed in a bad direction as well.
What an amazing looking shoe. I was surprised upon visiting the TLB web sight to see that the sizing only went to size 12.
Had a Artista Chelsea boot from TLB - it’s an amazing shoe! Moreover, Toni is a super nice guy and makes the process a pleasure.
Can you please explain a D width conversation for TLB Mallorca
All TLB come in normal D widths (Called F on the website) mine was a custom
@@TheElegantOxford Thank you I've been having the hardest time trying to figure that out
TLB was already on my list as the next pair of shoes I was planning on buying.....very interested to hear who that other brand might be that you think is in the conversation with TLB under $500, figure since you've already done Carmina and J Fitzpatrick reviews it's not either of them. Based on what I know I'd have to guess it's Cobbler Union or Carlos Santos (though I'm ready to be surprised).
Good video, can't wait until the next one.
Hey, Alex. The company I was referring to was Vass Budapest. They offer a Handwelted shoe with JR soles, stock from the factory for under $500
It’s a close race and you could make a solid argument for either.
That’s exactly why I think I like TLB. Vass do seem a little chunkier but they are definitely good shoes.
After this $500 range, I’d recommend Antonio Meccariello, Enzo Bonafe, and Y by Yeossal. They are next level for $500+
What a great review. Mike
I absolutely stand by the review. $399 really gets you the best shoe for the money in my opinion
MTobin1000 same. I love the look of Strands, but at this price point, the Artista line seems like the way to go for semi brogues.
I never heard of this brand before, but they look absolutely stunning. How do they compare with Carmines in terms of quality?
Great video as always and congrats on 150k! I know I've turned a few people on to your great videos .
I love TLB. The loafers from the regular line are my fav. I have one from the Artista line but I find the real leather heel is really hard to break in. The regular line is just as good imo. I just received loafer from Sons of Henrey and they're super nice. Maybe it's just me, but I think TLB is the best. Check out SOH next
Great video as always.
Beautiful pair of shoes. Great review Preston
Thanks for the vid Preston! I would love to see a review on Yeossal!
That’s coming soon. My shoes were started in may so they should be here this month.
Stay tuned!
Fantastic video! I loved all the time you took to explain why you liked what you liked. Ho do you think the leather quality on the EGs compared?
@@TheElegantOxford these shoes are certainly punching above their weight then! Will have to take a look
How would these compare to Cobbler Union?
Hey, Robert. Current consensus is that TLB is superior because of the thin waist
Soooo many good shoe makers out there, glad it seems you are expanding your taste there is more than Allen Edmonds
@@JohnwFOC You are right there is definitely shortage of wide shoe makers.
Is it a huge difference between G and F lasts?
How do the sizes compare to Allen Edmonds for example I wear an 8 EEE in Allen Edmonds. I want to order a custom pair but a little worried about paying a lot for a shoe that may or may not fit.
Hello, Thanks for the excellent review! I was wondering which is the exception that you have in mind that is as good or better for the same price point you mentioned? Looking forward to next videos!
Hey, David. That would be Vass Budapest. They are a Handwelted shoe featuring JR soles and free shoe trees for a little more money.
It’s a close race!
Awesome review Preston!!
Thats a proper looking shoe 👌🏼
Great review. Can't wait to get a pair of TLB.
Hi Preston, thanks so much for providing so much great information on dress shoes. I have a question, I've got a pair of ace marks that squeak when I walk. My suspicion is the sounds is coming from the tongue rubbing against the laced area. Do you have any suggestions on fixing this?
I’m not sure how to fix squeaking unfortunately. It seems to be an issue with leather rubbing together. Wish I knew more about it.
Hi, great video. ‘Inverness’ is pronounced ‘in-ver-nesss’. Inverness is a city in Scotland - I’m Scottish. Loved the video and will check out the brand.
Was there last year. Those seagulls didn’t let me sleep!
GIV-X Those people didn’t let me sleep! I now live overseas. Hope you enjoyed the Highlands. If they are good for anything it’s shooting and no one will miss those seagulls that’s for sure.
Excellent product, I have need 02 pair but how can order ?
What’s the difference between single, double oak, and storm welt soles ??
I have 12 pairs of TLB Mallorca Artista series shoes and can say I agree with your views here. Oddly, I have red interiors on all of them and double JR soles on 8 of them - great minds, clearly, think alike. I still think I should get more of these shoes as there are more styles I have yet to add to the collection.
You’re my hero. I think I’m going to buy a lot of the Artista line in the future.
What grain is the leather ?
Hey KOKI, Like I mentioned in the video, the leather is sourced from Charles F Stead and Annonay and is full grain vegano calf.
The Elegant Oxford thank you for replying.
I know nothing about shoes my man but you're quite a salesman! These are beautiful
Mirror gloss on vamps looks sooo amazing! How many layers do you apply?
What’s the fit for these? Will it accommodate a higher instep feet?
Wow, that is a beautiful looking shoe 👏😍
Hi Preston, loving the review series you are creating lately. I have a quick question, how would you shine a pair of boots that are a little more hard use than Oxfords for example police or military boots so that they stay professional longer and look great?
good day..where can i buy this kind of shoes
Great videos, I have become a fan. You had mentioned in an earlier video that you wear wide shoes. Did you have any issues with the width in these shoes or should you adjust your size when ordering? I wear 11 1/2 eee in Allen Edmunds
That's a pretty amazing shoe. You weren't kidding about the sole... That looks crazy nice and the JRs are stunning. Time to visit their website.
Hey, Jed. They are a fantastic shoe for the price. I’m going to buy another pair for sure. Too good to pass up.
Hi. I have a question. I am 7.5 E Allen Edmond. What size or last should I get on TLB. Thank you!
6.5UK G width would work for you.
@@TheElegantOxford thank you so much.
@@drosi2880 you can always email Toni. Tell him I sent you.
I wonder how Carlos Santo's handgrade line compares to Carmina and TLB. I love my CS!
Thank you.
Are the sapphire products worth their price tag¿
Great review, I first heard about this brand on Vladimir Riche’ channel as well, I was wondering if you or Vladimir have any knowledge on TLB’s Main line and what’s the difference if any from the Artista line?
How bad is the V gap? Do you have any pictures?
These don’t have a V Gap at all. It’s less than 5mm
If my brannock size is an 11 US, what would you recommend for my size? Their sizing guide indicates I'm a 9.5 UK, but I feel like I should be a 10 UK.
I’d try a 10UK for sure.
Could anyone suggest a method of removing dark mould stains from a pair of Barker light brown woody's, I have tried everything, nothing is working, in fact the stains have spread out slightly, I would really like to save the shoes from the bin.
Thank you if anyone can help.
Saphir renomat followed by Saphir cream, otherwise acetone and redye with angelus dye or Saphir tincture
@@nate98360 Thanks for the info, I will give that a try.
Chris Bailey no worries, good luck. Watch some videos on here first
Dear Preston Soto .. i have to tell you the truth about these types of shoes :.. i have never own shoes like this . never had a reason to wear shoes like this .
Fantastic, Jimmy! Love this comment.
Nice review, beautiful shoes. Too much broguing for me but that's my opinion.
I've never seen a pair of Edward Green's but I'll take your word for it.
Glad to see that more and more companies produce great products and that the value/price ratio is increasing for us customers.
Great video and great shoe! Vass should be on your list (sounds like it is).
Do you think these are better than yearn?
yes tlb is the best at its price i found, it even better than other higher price rtw.
Great minds think alike.
If you’re a normal width, then the normal F width the shoes come regüelden in will fit you fine. g widths are for wider feet
Every time Preston says, "Shine your shoes" I hear it in Jordan Peterson's voice haha.
Didn’t expect to hear his name here, he’s a great and well-spoken guy though, well dressed as well!
CNES would be a great shoe to look at. Definitely would be interested to hear your thoughts on them.
I already have 2 pairs here. Filming the review soon. I think they are great. Beveled waists included!
How about size, us 10 is ?
You should check out Bellissimo Regno from Australia. Very few new Aussie brands with Spanish shoes.
Dear Preston,
I am a huge fan of your videos and you have always been very responsive to my questions on UA-cam.
Hi seeing as you have reviewed both TLB Mallorca and Yeossal, the TLB Artista in Van Gogh last fits me perfectly (I mean like a custom shoe well) in UK 6.5. Should I go for the same size or half size smaller in Yeossal?
Contact Yeossal. I’m only familiar with the YC3 last Although I’m not sure if their have been modifications made since I reviewed the shoes a couple of years ago
