Being sent to a wilderness camp for troubled teens just screams poor parenting. I don't understand how emotionally disconnected you would have to be to even consider that as a possibility for your own child. It sounds like Chet grew up feeling like people were against him, rebelled in response, and then was met with negligent parenting from rich actors who didn't want to put in the effort to actually solve the underlying issues. This creates a negative feedback loop in which the child's poor behavior is fueled by a lack of direction from family, which in turn fuels further neglect from said family. The wilderness camp is a desperate attempt to offload the responsibilities of being a parent onto faceless entity, and so many rich families get exploited this way. It's not hard to understand why Chet is the way he is, and the saddest thing is that it's so avoidable when you're rich.

are u dumb or something what else were they suppose to do, theres a reason why rehabs exist, to rehabilitate people, its the same concept. alot of people also see rehab as something stupid but its pretty much the only option other than being at home and being like "son your grounded, don't drink alcohol"

Sometimes people are just born a certain way too. Plenty of people have perfect parenting and turn into psychopaths or overdose in their 20s.

Considering the other two kids are perfectly normal, calmed and collected boys, indicates otherwise. Sometimes people are born rebellious, and they don't tame until they're well into their 30s, sometimes they never do. Parents should, in this case, try to do whatever they can to not lose the child to drugs, guns, bad influences, gangs, etc...

I went to second nature when I was 14 in 2002. They for sure made you sleep under a tarp in freezing snow and hike 5-8 miles a day in the mountains over rough terrain with 80 pound packs when you weighed 130 pounds. You also had to make fire with sticks to eat hot food each night. While i was there a seasonal blizzard came in called “the inversion” and we had to skip dinner and stay under our tarps for 24 hours until it ended. We found one of the guys Teddy with his tent covered in a foot of snow clasped, who was cousins to Steve-O from jackass. He tried to run away twice while we were there but you were in the middle of knowwhere Utah and no shot you would make it anywhere alive if you ran and they didnt find you. It was real life the book/movie Holes but in the freezing mountains. I also spiraled harder after i got out because i got sent there and had only smoked a joint once so after I got out i started doing any drugs i could get my hands on because I felt like I did the time for a crime I hadnt even got to do.

The fact about him feeling like people who were against him only were against because they saw him as a rich brat who's out of touch or the people who were nice to him only were nice to him because he was the son of Tom Hanks is just super heart breaking. Like, how could one ever truly felt genuine reactions based on how you are as a person? That is so messed up and in my opinion, can only end up fucking you up mentally. Man, that is actually super sad.

It's ALMOST like 2 girls calling each other the b word, wherein this case it would be OK but if a man called that woman the b word it would be offensive. I think its genuenly hard for actors to raise children since they are kind of dissaccociated from reality. I can for example see Keanu Reeves being a great parent because of his calm nature to the public, but you just never know untill they do raise children. That and the dilemma of the child knowing their parent is rich/famous/made it makes it different in general. I think what happened with tom hanks son is either he really felt cool and amazing. However, it could also be he just wanted to become more succesful than his father. You also have to take into consideration that this could be a random kid in florida and you'd never know about it or just think hes a degen, but the fact he has to portray a certain image to the public means that eyes are on him. You could say that means he has a responsibility to not ruin his fathers image but he has his own life to live. His choices are his choices, bad or good.
