Can this be done without removing that top frame to remove the door, you think? The top screws are hidden and forces me to remove the microwave from the slot. Would like to do it without having to remove the door.
If it comes to it I might just buy a U shaped irrigation vinyl connection item (anything like that) and just use that to cover and stabilize the broken connection on the top side of the handle with screws
Single mom here, so I try to do as much of the repairs around the house myself in order to avoid technician costs and what not. Your video has made this possible. My new handle is on the way and it already cost me $85, so thank you! Your video was easy to follow. I don't even think I will need to watch it again once it arrives. Now to just make sure I don't break any of the plastic, haha
You’re a phenomenal teacher Lex! Thanks for putting all these work orders out here for us to learn from. I brush up on my skills with these videos for sure but more than anything your attitude is something I attempt to emulate daily. -number one skid
Hey Lex, Got a tech tip for ya. Take that good end piece off the broken handle & save it. It just unscrews off the handle & next time you have a broken microwave handle (which usually is just one end the top or bottom) you can just replace that end piece. Saves $150-$180 vs buying a new stainless steel handle. I get 2 or 3 broken handles a month now that my property is 7 years old. Good to see you back in action bro 🛠️👍
Good video. I've not hand to change a handle in one of these, but, the cheap plastic catch hook for the spring at the bottom breaks off. I just drill a small hole at the bottom and re-hook the spring and it seems to work well.
I was so hoping to see the Ryobi drill Glad to hear you'll be making more vids cause young'ens can learn a lot of tech tips Mama ... Thx Sir Lex -A-Lot ...
Just followed your instructions and replaced my door handle- thanks True hat the handle is listed for $180 on the GE website (ugh) Found the same part on eBay for $20 Probably the last GE appliance I own.
Thanks so much, although it wasn't myy model number it was helpful to see how to get the backing off so i. Could remove the handle and put a new one on. Saved me a repair bill or new MW $.
All that work for a lousy handle. And $180 for a cheap piece of plastic!!! Come on, what a rip off! I don't know what the cost of a new wave that size is, but $180 verses a new wave? I'm thinking... Thanks Lance! ALWAYS HELPFUL!
Question: I can get a new handle on my 15 year old microwave from GE for $80, but their site says to test the microwave for leaks in the microwave shield. Should I be concerned about that? And also a comparable new microwave can be had for $200-250, am I crazy for thinking a full replacement would be better?
Bro when are we gonna get you hooked into the Milwaukee M12 line up? They’re so small and light yet powerful I’m addicted to them. And the aftermarket Amazon M12 batteries are totally fine so no need to take out a bank loan to buy them.
Why did you go thru all of that trouble removing the door? I have a GE that I just replaced the handle,in 10 minutes time with the door still attached,😮😮
Sitting at 23. Got a long way to go. It takes a month to order and get to the property. At $2,000 a coil, they don't want to order so we fill more than we replace. 😆
My boss used to give me grief cause I have some ryobi. After 3 years of him watching them last year he quit giving me grief and just asks for them when they are handy.

Probably the last GE appliance I own.
Nice fix! Thank you so much for watching!
You can order just the end parts. Don't need the whole handle. BIG money savings.
Nothing wrong with Ryobi 😂 thanks for posting this I was able to replace the GE microwave handle with ease
Thank you so much for watching!

Great video. May try to get a new handle if it doesn’t cost as much as a new microwave.
Thank you so much for watching!
Oh no not the Ryobi LOL .... ppl should learn its not the tool but how the man uses it ;) nice vid bud thanks
So true! Thank you so much for watching!
That's the first time I actually seen you on camera your a tall guy like most maintenance guys.
I'm 5' 12". 😆
I'm 5 12 too lol and I'm a plumber crazy 👍
I own everything Ryobi, years ago as well 😂😂😂, my contractor friends, tease me as well
My Ryobi is 5+ years old and still going strong. 💪 Thank you so much for watching!
Lex, got my door off, but it has two long white plugs holding in place on the top? Any ideas. Thanks Cindy
I'd need to be there for this head scratcher. 🤔
@@LexVance I just watched another video of a microwave with my model number and it did not have these pins. How is that possible? Thanks Cindy

You have REALLY GREAT ADVICE! Any savings is gratly appreciated!
Ryobi, Bosch, Milwaukee, DeWalt or king ping pow wow! Doesn't matter to me as long as does the job that needs done! Ryobi on brother! 👍👍
Thank you so much for watching Greg!
These handles break easily from all the pulling. Would a threadlocker be helpful?
Yes, that would help.
@@LexVance I’ll give that a try when I install!
Look, everyone forgets their adult drill from time-to-time and has to borrow their girlfriend's.
👍😆👍 Just making memories. Good to hear from you Big N8!

We usually just get a new microwave. 😆
I own Ryobi, Milwaukee, Dewalt, Milwaukee, Makita, and Black & Decker, and some others. I ain't racist I love all brands.
Right on! 😆
Is this genuine GM handle or aftermarket? GE pricing seems crazy, those 3 parts are as much as a whole new microwave, safe to use aftermarket?
Yeah, we just put in a new microwave now days. 😆 parts are expensive.
Ryobi are the best for the buck hands down
So true! Thank you so much for watching Dan!
Bro when are we gonna get you hooked into the Milwaukee M12 line up? They’re so small and light yet powerful I’m addicted to them. And the aftermarket Amazon M12 batteries are totally fine so no need to take out a bank loan to buy them.
When the Ryobi goes I'll give them a shot. Good to hear from you O Shack!
Why did you go thru all of that trouble removing the door? I have a GE that I just replaced the handle,in 10 minutes time with the door still attached,😮😮
Easier for me with the door off. Thank you so much for watching!
Why use the power drill to take out the handle screws??
Because it's fun.
Is there just one tab holding the inner door frame? Cant really see how to detach it from your video.
For the door there's 2. One on top and one on bottom.
@@LexVance What glue could I use to just safely glue the handle to the door?
Super or gorilla glue.
O no he's got the Ryobi
👍😆👍
Replaced all 300 coils yet?? What's the tally so far??
Sitting at 23. Got a long way to go. It takes a month to order and get to the property. At $2,000 a coil, they don't want to order so we fill more than we replace. 😆
Ryobi = Replace Yearly Or Breaks Immediately. Lol. 😁
😆 Good to hear from you Chris!
@@LexVance I own some ryobi tools myself. They seem to do a good job for me. I haven't had any issues with them yet. 👍
If you use a putty knife rather than a screw driver, it spreads the force over a larger area. Your less likely to break it.
Thank you so much for watching!
I gotta cheap warrior drill, 18v works for me
Thank you so much for watching!
Hey your using a ryobi
👍😆👍 Good to hear from you Alex!
Great video, but I think I might just buy a new microwave before trying this repair.
That's what we do now. The parts are about as much as a new microwave. Thank you so much for watching!
Nice!
Good to hear from you Terry!
Really, what a pain in the arse!! Is it your responsibility to re-order parts? Thanks for sharing
Yep! Good to hear from you Kevin!
My boss used to give me grief cause I have some ryobi. After 3 years of him watching them last year he quit giving me grief and just asks for them when they are handy.
👍😆👍 Right on! Thank you so much for watching!
Don’t care about the ryobi (whatever works) but you didn’t have toke the door all the way off. 😂
So true. I find it easier with it off and not sitting so high up. Thank you so much for watching Alicia!
Another video…use a narrow putty knife no need to take door off
Right on! Thank you for the tip, Wally!
Motto: Don't break your GE microwave handle.
👍😆👍 Thank you so much for watching Dan!
It snapped after 20.5 years of wear and tear 😊
I just glue the damn thing lol
Thank you so much for watching!
