      I think my husband and i will be donors for life too, or at least until we are 65, I've heard thats the cut off age limit...but i could be wrong on that. its such a big help and when we don't need the money we just let it build up in our accounts. I personally think every one who can donate should. I advocate for it all the time to folks who say they need an extra source of money and I'm always surprised when people say " its not worth my time". umm ok Jane Doe, tell me where else your gonna make $70+ a week for 2 hours of your time? the local burger joint your working at aint gonna pay you that.

      I've noticed at these places, a high percentage of donators are american american. Also while giving blood, there is a machine that separates red blood cell, which is what they want and it filtrate your blood back into ur veins. Now, so far on what I read , these places are short staffed and most of them are rude. They are probably disgruntled and there is a high chance that they might not clean that machine which separates blood cells. Imagine someone with HIV and it gets pump into ur body when not cleaned properely

      mr. JH I can’t speak for all centers but the center that I donate at the staff is really nice. As for the machine that separates the blood from the plasma ( I don’t know technical terms) but all of the tubing and the collection container that the blood goes into is all removed and replaced with each new donor and when you get to the bed your going to lie on the open the new package of tubes and containers and install them in the machine in front of you while wearing a new pair of gloves. It’s very sterile

    I agree, this video is very nice and helpful. I have been donating for two years, and I go twice a week. I earn $355.00 per month with the bonuses. I go to Octapharma Plasma in Virginia. Everyone is slightly different regarding how you feel afterwards. All the suggestions are accurate about eating and drinking right to maintain your protein and iron levels. I am a woman and have learned that how you feel after donating plasma varies depending on several factors including whether you are male or female. Yes, for most women the saline injection at the end of your donation will make your entire body, not just at the injection site, very cold. I suggest wearing long sleeves that can easily be pushed up, socks with closed toe shoes, pants, and a light jacket or blanket(depending on where you are located geographically). It's very important to take multi-vitamins daily to maintain your iron, especially if your don't eat enough iron rich foods. I take two multi-vitamins daily. Also, you need to wait at least 3-4 hours after you eat a very high protein rich meal before you donate. It takes 3-4 hours for your body to metabolize 30 grams of protein. If you try and donate right after you eat then there wont be enough time for your blood levels to rise. I have never heard of needing to file the money you earn from donating plasma on your income taxes. You are not required to file income below a certain amount no matter where it comes from. I'm not sure on what that amount is, however do you really think that the IRS is going to audit you for $300 a month you earn from donating plasma to saves lives? I guess the USA government does pretty crazy things though. The question to file this money on income taxes never crossed my mind. I file every year and have had no problems with not filing this money.

    I have been donating plasma for almost a year now at CSL Plasma outside of Chicago. My tip is that its important what you do the rest of the day after donating. When i leave there i consume my homemade sports drink which contains a cup of coconut water a little OJ, sea salt AC vinegar and water. I also have something to eat that contains some protein like eggs. I also drink a lot more water than usual. Last but not least....take it easy.

      Leslie Holmes very good advice! Some times I need a sugar pick me up when I finish donating. I normally swing threw mcdoanlds for a coke, but the healthiest option but it works lol.

    • @Hardin9
      @Hardin9 6 років тому +2

      @Leslie Holmes With the exception of the female chicken menstrual secretions (that suggestion reduces your credibility!) the rest of your suggested sustenance items are good.
      For protein content, that is in all fruits, vegetables, mushrooms, and what not, however, if one is looking for very dense protein content before donating plasma, the best sources are going to be beans, seeds, nuts, tofu, plant milks are good, especially soy, soy has high protein concentration, and there are plenty of protein supplements on the market that you can mix with juice drinks, or plant milks, just make sure you get a protein supplement that contains ZERO DAMN ANIMAL PRODUCTS!!!!! Vega is one I like a lot, I use that one before climbing, and there are pea protein supplements that are excellent.
      Fluid intake is important before donating plasma just as it is before doing cardio, or strength training, however, you should get your fluid intake through you diet, not water, your hydration should come from high liquid food. Too much water is actually not healthy because it will leach minerals from your bones, water is not a nutrient, it has virtually no nutrient value, the only time one should drink heavy amounts of water is if one is in a desert, and getting severely dehydrated.

    If it’s cold outside ( it was like 8 degrees out so take that into consideration)wait a few minutes before leaving. The reason I say this is because they pump saline at the end of donating and it makes you very cold. I noticed it made me feel a little dizzy and made me shiver very bad.

      Make sure you're drinking lots of fluids in the days before your donation. Drinking a bunch of water the day of your donation doesn't really help. Being properly hydrated is the best way to ensure they have a good shot at finding a good vein and It helps your donation to go faster. I don't know what made her husband's iron level go up with proper hydration. It could have something to do with what he was eating more so than the water.

    One warning - NEVER LIE ON THE PLASMA APPLICATION QUESTIONNAIRE, ESPECIALLY REGARDING DISQUALIFIABLE CONDITIONS! Be truthful about these conditions - if you have these questionable conditions, you need to put it on there and say "yes."
    Why?
    If you get money for your plasma and word finds out that you lied on some condition that you said "no" to and find out later that you have this disqualifiable condition -
    YOU CAN BE SUBJECT TO CRIMINAL PROSECUTION!!!!!
    You can be arrested and face criminal penalties for at least one theft crime, most likely either theft by deception, breach of trust for fraudulent intent, but most likely, you could face either of these additional charges....
    1. Using funds earned to you by false pretenses (that falls under things like misappropriation of funds or even worse, embezzlement), or even worse....
    2. Perjury or subordination of perjury - which can be both felonies (and not likely wobblers, which means you may be unable to be charged with these crimes as misdemeanors, but as felonies instead!).
    If convicted of any of these theft crimes, you can face consequences like fines up to $25,000, imprisonment for up to 5 years, or both. Even worse, because these crimes are almost like shoplifting, you will likely be permanently banned from donating at that plasma center you lied on, or even a chain of plasma donor centers in the same brand either in the whole state or the whole country.

    • @charlessmith263
      @charlessmith263 5 років тому +1

      I myself was disqualified from plasma donating around 1997 or 1998 because I had traces of "flucortisone propionate" in my blood, from a Rx drug called Flovent, a prescription maintenance asthma inhaler. It was a corticosteroid that, in my finding, can mess up with ACTH levels in the blood during the time you plasma-donate. ACTH levels cannot be messed up with by any human-made steroids and that is why all types of steroids are disqualifiable chemicals for plasma donation. Could have made $5,000 if I weren't disqualified due to the abovementioned.

    I donated plasma for the first time yesterday, and going back tomorrow. What I'm wondering is, is it ok to drink coffee! I know it's dehydrating but I need it! I usually drink a lot of water anyway but I'll be upping it today. It was really cold in the room and I saw people with blankets so I'll probably bring one in with me from now on. BP, Heart rate, lungs, skin bruising, the needle tracks you're hoping to hide. You have to show top and undersides of your arms, every visit, every time, so that donating isnt just an ATM for junkies. Theres an extensive health questionaire to complete before each donation too. Hopefully, people answer truthfully.

EZ melts is expensive, but if you can afford it's worth it because it's fast absorbing, it's a sublingual supplement, otherwise VegLife is a great one for anyone on a budget.

    • @meganyevak9453

      18 milligrams of iron gives you 100% of the daily value recommended as posted on any generic multi-vitamin bottle. I use regular generic multi-vitamins and I take two a day because I do donate twice a week. This provides me with enough iron to maintain the levels needed to continue donating and feeling healthy. I don't need to buy iron pills specifically. Compare the milligrams of iron in one multi vitamin with the milligrams of iron in one iron pill. Why buy separate types of pills or supplements when most of what you need is already in a multi vitamin.

    • @Hardin9
      @Hardin9 6 років тому +1

      A multivitamin is just fine for Iron supplementing, because virtually all of them have Iron, as long as it's a VEGAN MULTIVITAMIN!

    • @CristinSierra
      @CristinSierra  6 років тому +3

      Teneisha Heath some weeks I do end up missing for this or that reason but on average I do try & donate twice a week. I guess I should of showed my scares in the video, I wish I had thought to do it. I do have a small scare on the inside of each elbow, but at my facility they poke you in the same spot so it’s only one scare on each thankfully. I was really worried about scares when I first started donating, but they set in on me pretty quick ( granted I was trying to get my sign on bonus so I had to donate twice a week for almost a month to get the bonus). I am a little self conscious of the scares, I don’t want some one to think I’m a druggie. But they are so small I don’t think it’s something people notice, I mean when was the last time you looked at the inside of some ones elbow during a conversation? Personally I don’t think I have ever done that haha. So that’s what I ask my self when I start feeling self conscious, it’s unlikely any one is even looking there. But at the end of the day I have found that the financial gain from donating far out ways my vanity & if any one ever does ask about it then I guess it’ll be a good conversation started about donating plasma & maybe I’ll be able to talk them into signing up. It’s been such a blessing for my family I would highly recommend it to any one.

    I'm looking for some advice, and seems you're very experienced in all this so I think you might be able to address my concerns. I'll give you the whole story. Today when | went to donate plasma, as the machine was attempting to give me my blood cells back, it kept resulting in no flow. I called over one of the technicians, and she flipped a button or whatever on the machine that forced flow, all's this did was send blood under the skin, and as a result they had to cut me down without that cycle completing. I lost about 100 or so mililieters of blood. I just barely avoided a deferral of 8 weeks. It was explained to me that this was a result of me lacking water in my system, so my blood was thicker. However, the site where this occurred is now bruised. Which kills my chance of a donation within at least the next weeks time anyways.
    I want to know, has a circumstance like this ever occurred to you, and if it did, how did it personally affect your donations? And as for the bruise, what is a sure fire way to get it to the stage where it's yellow quick? I did the math, I can miss a maximum of 8 days from today, (9 if the would be day of donation is included) before I loose the chance to get my centers bonuses for this month. Is there a trick to get rid of this quick? Or perhaps, should I just not worry about it at all? I am a college student, who lives with my parents. It's not the be all end all for my fiances, but it makes life a lot more livable.

    • @CristinSierra
      @CristinSierra  5 років тому +1

      TheSpaceKing12 I totally understand your concerns with the financials, It’s a big help. Personally I’ve never had this issue, but my husband has several times and is actually on an 8 week deferral because of something similar happening. He they tell him that his plasma is too cloudy or too thick ( depends on the technician ) and normally tell him to drink more water, but he still drinks lots of water. He is starting to think it’s do too dairy and he is only coming to that threw process of elimination. Anything you eat the day before could effect your donation. as long as he drinks lots of water and eats a fairly healthy diet the day before and hours leading up to his donation he is normally go.
      As for the bruise you might want to do a google search on how to heal it quickly .

    • @TheSpaceking12
      @TheSpaceking12 5 років тому

      @@CristinSierra If Dairy can cause an issue, that actually makes a lot of sense. I split a pizza that had extra cheese yesterday with my friend. I ate the last two slices before I went to bed.
      according to google, some tips are to eat pineapple, as one of it's chemicals can help in breaking down cells when a bruise happens, or a supplement of Vitamin K. I have a multivitamin with a 75% recommended daily dose of that particular vitamin. (I was recommended to take one by my doctor cause college makes food that's actually good for you all the more expensive.) I haven't been taking it for a month and a half or so, but i'll try taking it again to see if it helps.

      John Frutos every one is different, but yes over time it can. I donated for a year solid, and I think it took about 5ish months for mine to scare. But at the facility I was going to they always stuck me in the same spot so I only have one scare on each arm, it doesn’t look like track marks. It’s not something any one notices until I have to have my blood drawn at the Drs. I haven’t donated in about 7 months now due to pregnancy and the scares are starting to look like a deep line in the crease of my elbow, so they blend in pretty well with the other creases that are naturally accruing, how ever the one in my left side is slightly purple, so if some one was looking at the inside of my elbow ( which, how often do people look at the inside of other peoples elbows?) it is more noticeable, just because of the discoloration. However I will say the financial benefit from donating far surpasses the scares I have developed, and once I’m able to I will go back to donating.

      They don't "ingest" you with anything. Ingesting means to eat or drink, meaning the substance goes into your stomach and is metabolized through your digestive system. They "inject" the saline into your blood stream. And yes, especially for women, this does make your entire body cold, not just at the injection site. And also, you do need to pump your fist during the parts of each cycle when blood is being drawn and then you relax your fist during the return, you make a fist only when the needle is first being stuck into your arm. But thanks for trying young buck.

I was struggling with having a high pulse for awhile a few months back for no reason that I could think of. At about the same time I got a gym membership and with in a few weeks on regular exercise I stated to notice I wasn’t having a high pulse even I went into donate. So maybe up your exercise 🤷‍♀️. whenindoubt mutemyownmouth yea mine is loaded on a reloadable card that has the name of my plasma center on it. It works just like a debt card and if I want to take money out of the account I have to go to a certain bank or I’ll have withdraw fees

    The finger prick is to see if you have enough iron & protein!

    My lab checks your blood every four months (like all labs, I'm sure), and my protein levels are always too low. I would love to know what I can do to avoid this. I eat at least 120 g of protein a day, and when they prick my finger before every donation, my levels are around 6.4. The lowest you can be to be able to donate is 6.0. I eat enough protein to where my protein levels should be 7.0 or higher.

      @@jeffdeer683 that’s something my husband struggles with. He’s actually quit going because it happens so much. We haven’t figured out how lower his iron.
