    5/19/17 I made this last night and this morning as it is a bit time consuming. I added Lemon Grass as an essential oil and I love the way it turned out. Probably one of the creamiest bars I have ever poured into a mold. The next time I make it I will do some prep work way before hand. I am going to infuse an entire bottle of olive oil over a 2-3 week period so I have it on hand. I am also going to extract the health benefits from the Aloe before hand buy taking 2 quart jars , buying a large Aloe leaf from the grocery store, peel it only on 1 side, cut it in chunk and dividing it into the jars covering them to the top with distilled water then pop it in the frig for 48 hours and drain with a fine sieve freezing the liquid in 1 oz. cubes, drinking any leftovers for the health benefits. I hope that helps. Donna in sunny Florida

    Hi Maxine :) part one
    The recipe at 3:45 lists all of the ingredients to make her beautiful bastile soap. Here she also incorporates calendula petals, and aloe vera gel, for their skin loving benefits. Yes, you will have a total of 10.56 *by weight* ounces of liquid, that will include the prepared calendula tea (made w/ distilled water), and the aloe vera gel, then topped up with distilled water, until you have reached the total of 10.56 ounces. She then froze the 10.56 oz of liquid...

    I made this about a month ago and it doesn’t seem to be hardening up. I made it in individual silicone molds. I noticed after 24 hour that the soap came out of the molds sticky and soft. It is better but it should be harder after 4 weeks of curing right? I am a newbie soaper so any advice you could give would be great. I followed the recipe exactly except I added camomile to the tea as well. Perhaps I should add stearic acid or sodium lactate next time? Thanks again for you awesome videos and expert advice!

    Love your videos!!! Can't wait to make your recipe, but I have some questions... You add lye twice first on the calendula tea infusion and aloe vera juice. Did you subtracted that amount from the original recipe? How much did you use for that and how much for the lye solution. and What type of oil you used to make the tea infusion?
    Thank you.

    You have a lot of great information in your videos. I have to ask how you soaped with this recipe at 101.1? Also, you scoop out the CLEAR aloe gel from the plant but your video shows green frozen cubes? Why not just use the whole plant and hit puree or run it through a juicer? How much aloe PPP do you add? Finally, what % SF do you use? There seems to be a few holes in this tutorial. Thanks in advance for your response.

    Thanks for the tutorial, great ideas but I don’t think this was quite detailed instructions. I’ve been making soaps for a long time so I know how to do this better to my liking but I think this was not the best tutorial but idea sharing?
    For example, when you want to make calendula infused oil, I would recommend you to put the flower petals in a blender and pulse them, or cut them in smaller pieces with a pair of scissors maybe to expedite the process. I would fill much more of calendula flowers like half the bottle packed then add a main oil. In fact you could actually measure all of the oils and make calendula oils. Whatever it’s absorbed you can add olive oil to make it the same oil total weight and keep the same amount of lye and it’s still be ok if you want to make very healing soap. You would need to leave the jar in slow cooker on low or around 60 degree Celsius water bath for 45 min-an hour and cover it and put them in cooler overnight to keep warm for some time. You would need to do this twice. You then need to leave the bottle for a week or so shaking the bottle everyday in dark place just to get some decent macerated calendula oil. The end product should be very yellow like amber golden color for the oil to have some healing properties.
    I loved the idea of that frozen fresh aloe and calendula frozen tea so that both won’t be scorched by the lye. Thank you so much for sharing the excellent ideas!!

  • @staceybrister
    @staceybrister 10 років тому +1

    part two for Maxine, ..the 10.56 oz of frozen liquid will be used to add your sodium hydroxide to, which will then become your lye solution. The olive oil she uses to infuse the calendula (and put in the crock pot)is a portion of the 22 oz total. If you use , say, 7 ounces of oil to infuse the flower petals into, you will end up with slightly less than 7 ounces, so you will use slightly over 15 additional ounces, to reach your total olive oil...

    part three for Maxine, The infused oil will go right on in your main container/pot/glass measure, along the rest of the oils in the recipe. When its time, you will be adding your 10.56oz lye solution to your 32oz of oils. Sorry so long! I sometimes have difficulty summerizing. Hope this helps someone :)

    i have an issue with aloe vera ...I use it fresh from my garden ,but I never manage to make it so smooth as aloe vera gel we can get from shops...I know it can be mixed with glycerin in the mixer and become smoother but how can it be done in this video,because I do not think the aloe cubes were just the cut and sliced aloe,because they would not disolve without leaving chunks in the lye...so If you are kind enough could you please explain the whole thing to us since so many people have the same question with me...thank you and congratulations on your excellent helping videos of yours..I ADORE THEM!!!

      it meens that she infused the olive oil in her recipe with the calendula. she didn't add any more oil to it. adding more oil can throw off the recipe. since the lye amount is calculated to soaponify that particular amount of oils.

      All true soap has lye...you can't get soap without it. If you have a cleansing type agent/"soap" without lye, it is a detergent - not soap. No lye - no true soap. 🙂 hope this helps
