Yorkshire pudding soaked in proper meat gravy from your roast dinner must be similar, it’s fantastic. Always suspicious of countries that smother stuff in sauces, many times (not saying this is the case here) it’s to hide poor quality meat or other ingredients.
Na biscuits are nothing like Yorkshires. More like savoury buttery scones.
My nan used to make a large Yorkshire pudding we cut up and had with gravy as a starter to Sunday dinner, that is the traditional way to eat it in Yorkshire. She would make small ones that we would have for pudding at tea time with jam, or my fav lemon curd on them, still make extra for this purpose.
Yorkshire puddings aren't even close to American biscuits.
I'm a brit in America and scones and biscuits look similar but as for taste and texture not that much, scones are more cakey and biscuits are bready
Someone should give these kids shit on a shingle witch for those in Britain is small bits of ham or briskit in the same gravy then put on toast or a biscuit
As Brit’s we frown at Biscuits and Gravy but I bet if we tried the Authentic “US” Biscuits and gravy, It would slap
First time I tried it, it was awful. I then had a chance to try them In the house of blues in downtown Disney. Absolutely delicious. So I supose it's who makes them.
Its not even US gravy, its french gravy. It was invented at the same time as brown gravy. Its just brits never got the memo that gravy isnt just one recipe made from one type of fat dripping.

The difference between these and scones is the milk. Americans use butter milk that has a slight bitter taste. That sort of gravy would be called a creamed sauce.
Those kids are so confident. When I was their age I was a walking nervous wreck lol!

I could not wait to try out a traditional N/American " Diner " and order a crazy big breakfast or a lunch plate of food the size of a small child. On ordering the " All American Beef Sandwich " to start with, I was presented with a swabby toasted beef sandwich and a bowl of hot " Bovril " to dip it in & a breakfast that reminded me of a greasy motorway lay-by shed dishing out food to lorry drivers. We tried out Red-Lobster & Denny's, and as a construction manager who has eaten some crap in his life in uncountable cafe's, I can honestly say the food in N/America is really low par on quality and taste. Only once did we ever have a nice meal eating out in 5weeks of holiday, and that was on the waterfront in Seattle where it cost me a fortune for King Crab Claws.
We had pancakes with eggs and bacon and fruit on the same plate for brek in San Fran, then Spag bol for lunch (normal), We have iced tea here in the Summer - Liptons ready made but is available all year round
hehehe....I tasted your " Liptons " (so called ) Ice Tea and it is a sugar infused monstrosity that has no bearing on the real Liptons product Invented/made here. It's so weird we are so close in so many ways and yet so far apart in other ways..... @@jillybrooke29

✨Hi JT I must admit it does look like our English scone with white sauce over it, it doesn't look very appitising but hey don't knock it until you try it so they say and I would try this 👍✨
That's exactly what it is like. The scones are softer and more buttery, and the white sauce is more savoury, but other than that, you are absolutely right. Spot on.

Some people think biscuits are scones over there. We have both scones and biscuits they taste different, different texture as well. Depends on who’s making the sausage gravy too, some people can’t cook 😂! If you get ahold of some good sausage gravy and good biscuits then you know why people love this dish! I’ve had bad and good biscuits and gravy! When I see people make it across the pound they don’t use seasoning!

Gravy is, Brian comes from meat with thickening, everything else which is a different colour is definitely called a sauce.

I know what you mean about food that Grandparents used to make. My Gran used to make a spicy cottage pie and bacon pudding were amazing, and my Grampy’s savoury pies or his lemon soufflé were amazing too.

Welsh guy here now living in Canada, where there is no 'biscuits and gravy' , but I will always look out for it when we travel down south. I wouldn't order it as a meal, but they often have them in breakfast buffets in the hotels we stay at . Surprisingly, American sausages taste quite similar to British sausages and not like European ones!

I was very dubious about white gravy, but now I now how to make it, I might try it. I'll probably try real gravy with biscuits first. I'm sure you used to be able to buy ready made biscuit mix by Pilsbury, but haven't seen any in years, in the UK. Looks like home made all the way is the way to do it.
Hopefully 1 day I get the try the "biscuits and gravey" and see what the hype is all about but by their comments it sounds nice, I'm not a hot drinker but since trying peach ice tea, I'm hooked lol
I've seen more than one of the videos with this group of lads, and they react pretty much the same way to everything they eat. You'd think they never got fed at home. So I never know when they're being genuine or just being kind.
White gravy is just a type of white sauce so we would call this pepper sauce or sausage and pepper sauce. For Brits gravy is usually brown with no milk in it.

I think the only thing I could think that would possibly resemble looks wise white gravy over here would be bread sauce . obviously bread sauce doesn’t have sausage in it. Well not any of that I’ve tried

We've got a couple of white sauces over here that look a bit like American gravy. I remember when I was really little my Mum making onion sauce and bread sauce with my Grandma. We also have onion gravy (the brown gravy with onions in). Unlike the onion gravy, bread sauce or onion sauce would be poured at the side of the plate rather than all over. I never found the idea of American biscuits and gravy appealing, but I would definitely try it after watching this. Because after all, how are we going to find out what other foods we do or don't like if we never try them?

First time i tried this at a hotel we stayed in, it was absolutely rank. We went to the house of blues in downtown Disney and i tried it there, i was pleasantly surprised. Totally different and much nicer. So i guess its who makes it and how is the secret. But JT, I've never in my life had better macaroni cheese than there in the us of a. Absolutely banging 👍

The way you make gravy is similar but we use bovril and water instead of milk. Well I do anyway. Be nice to try an make american gravy just for science

Have you tried "French toast" ham and cheese sandwich? You make a none sweet french toast mix, and then flip your ham cheese sandwich in it. Butter on a frying pan until done.

The only thing we add to our gravy in the UK is onions. That gravy on the biscuits looks like our bread sauce, I would try it but looks nasty.

Is this dish the same as the dreadfully named breakfast item which featured on my local diner's menu when I lived in VA 30 yrs ago - Shit on the Shingles? I was afraid to try it, just as I would anything named turd doughnut or diarrhoea delight. 😅
We were all horrified when biscuits and so-called gravy were placed before us. They are plain scones in white/grey sauce... that is just plain odd to say the least.

Tried Biscuits & Gravy in Virginia. I dunno what it was but it was vile. The sauce was gloopy gelatinous stuff. Had 2 bites. That was enough. The rest went in the bin.

we call your 'gravy' white sauce which we commonly have with chicken. sausage white sauce in pies. its nothing new to the brits. you have to remember majority of the food America claim, they brought over the pond from Britain, Apple pie, white sauce, pumpkin pie, sandwiches, Lasagne and many more. When the Italians and Germans populated America with their food, the Americans rubbed their scones together and claimed more food lmao. Funny thing is, us Brits are hounded for having bad food, by the very people who make our food with pride :P

We learnt that salt content in food is a leading cause of heart failure along with sugar. our food has reduced salt and sugar for health benefits. Though the average Brit uses salt and sugar at home. Being American you wouldn't know. The food industry in America is toxic and kills millions. Thats why most American food is banned across the world

In the North East we called those a Cobbler and not a scone. An old friend would spend a lot of time in the US. He made that lumpy "gravy" and cobblers for us. Most disgusting thing ive ever ate or seen. Each to their own.

I tried biscuits and gravy for the first time last month, don’t know how authentic it was, it was from a Popeyes in the UK. Ngl I didn’t really like it, it was way too dry, Popeyes does the best chicken though and the gravy was good, and fries, and pretty much everything else. Way better than KFC.
