King Gnu said that the opening (SPECIALZ) is meant to represent the curses' side as they run rampant across Shibuya with Gojo sealed. I like to think that playing it over Yuji's breakdown adds to this, like they're singing over his suffering, similar to the way Mahito and Sukuna laughed at him when Junpei died in S1.
It's even better considering that this OP is from the Villains POV, so it's literally Sukuna singing and dancing(maybe even twerking) in front of Yuji with his middle finger out.
I'll say it again (not that there's any real need for emphasis), I really, really, appreciate how Dapper makes the effort to understand this show and any others he watches. This truly makes every reaction worth watching and savouring! Thank you very much DD❤
Malevolent Kitchen took me completely off guard 🤣 Although I found that 'Shrine' in Japanese can also be translated to Kitchen, but it's moreso called as Malevolent Shrine in certain texts and in the manga as well, but given Sukuna's technique of slicing, dicing, burning, cooking up devious sht, and eating fingers, I guess he's kind of a chef himself. Another thing I noticed is that they used 'Makora' which is the japanese pronunciation, but it's more renowned as 'Mahoraga' for non-japanese speakers. Sidenote: I also noticed they somehow renamed/translated Sukuna's techniques here differently than in the manga. Because in the manga, and some translations in the previous episode, it's called 'Cleave' and 'Dismantle'. 'Fillet' and 'Dissect' just once again caught me off guard HAHA
idk about "Malevolent Kitchen" but Fillet & Dissect are the correct translations for Sukuna's normal attacks since both of them are slicing/cutting attacks, and there's like 99% chance that his CT's based on cooking, naming it "Cleave" and "Dismantle" does not convey the correct idea
You remember when Megumi tried to summon something against the finger bearer, Sukuna and against Hanami? Yeah all those times he was gonna summon Mahoraga.
So you're telling me he didn't summon mahoraga against the disaster curse of mother nature, didn't summon him against a curse that was in possession of a finger of the strongest sorcerer of all time, didn't summon him against the ACTUAL strongest sorcerer of all time, but instead he unleashed the divine general himself on miracle boy?
Specialz was played there exactly because it is more like villains' theme, or at least that's how I see it and which is why it hits so hard for me to look all that destruction while it plays.
I imagine Yuji didn't just "see" what happened. He felt it. Not as a passenger, but as the responsible for it. He felt how his fingers slashed people's lives away. He felt his cheeks smiling as Sukuna did everything. Worse of all... I can't blame Yuji for what Sukuna did, it's not like he knew what was going to happen when he ate that finger, but he'll forever remember that, if he hadn't eaten that finger and if he just chose to die... None of this would have happened, probably. That's probably why he reacted like that.
@@colt1903 indeed. Imagine getting punched by bloody armor guy and next thing you know is that you wake up to total destruction with a massive hole in Shibuya... especially when your physical body moved to do all this..
Fun Fact: The markings under the eyes of blond ponytail guy (Shigemo Haruta) are basicly extra lives. If you rewatch his fights you can see all his deaths as the markings disappear. First one was by Nobara. The other five by Nanami. When Nanami punched him across the street he died three times.

Well actually 🤓👆🏾”fukuma mizushi” roughly translates to Malevolent/ evil Shrine but “mizushi” can also be interpreted as “a nobleman’s kitchen” kinda appropriate, seeing as all his attacks have something to do with cutting and “cooking”!
malevolent kitchen is another possible translation for the original kanji, lol, some people back then even theorized that Sukuna powers could be related to cooking (cut with cleave, chop with dismantle, and heat with ¨&%$¨% fuga)
Fun fact ”fukuma mizushi” roughly translates to Malevolent/ evil Shrine but “mizushi” can also be interpreted as “a nobleman’s kitchen” kinda appropriate, seeing as all his attacks have something to do with cutting and “cooking”!
The name for Sukuna's Domain Expansion in Japanese is Fukuma Mizushi. The word "Fukuma" refers to a place where demons dwell, but the term "Mizushi" can refer to a few different things. Subtract the honorific "mi-," and you get "zushi," a small Buddhist shrine where statues, sutras, mortuary tablets, and other important religious items are stored. But you also have mizushi-dokoro, which is a part of the imperial palace where preparation for the emperor's meals take place. One of the kanji in the "Mizushi" part of Fukuma Mizushi also reads as "kitchen," so it's meant to have a double-meaning that's hard to translate. Sukuna's Domain Expansion is a defiled, disfigured Buddhist shrine that was built to store holy objects, but now it's crawling with evil forces and used to prepare Sukuna's macabre meals.
Pay your animators MAPPA. Pay them as much as they need and let them rest. This episode was beautiful. Thank you animators for putting your all into something and making it magical

Now that the GOAT mahoraga (or Makora ig) has been revealed, here are all the times Megumi tried to summon it in season 1, effectively almost committing suicide: 1. In the very beginning of the show when we’re introduced to yuji and he eats Sukunas finger and Sukuna is in control for a couple seconds. Megumi is about to summon Mahoraga but stops the summon when Gojo arrives. 2. The next occasion is in ep 5 iirc when Sukuna takes out Yujis heart to hold him hostage and Megumi is forced to fight Sukuna. Sukuna notices Megumi is about to summon something crazy and encourages him to do it since he wants to see it. I could be wrong but I think this is why yuji decided to take over and kill himself, because he knew Megumi was about to commit suicide. 3. Third, when Hanami invaded the exchange event, Megumi and Kamo fight Hanami but aren’t doing much damage so Megumi decided to bring out Maho, but Inumaki stops him. 4. Again, also at the exchange event against Hanami 💀 this time Maki stops him and they tag out and let Yuji and Todo fight Hanami instead. 5. The last time is toward the end of the season, when the main trio were fighting the special grade finger bearer curse and Chosos brothers under the bridge. Megumi is split up from the other two and is fighting a special grade on his own and losing. The curse notices he is about to summon something devious and jumps back in fear. Many ppl think the curse was afraid of Megumi, it was actually afraid of Maho. He almost summons Maho but has a flashback to his training with Gojo and remembers what he was told. “Dying to win, and winning by dying aren’t the same” (or something like that idk). He stops his summon and tries his domain for the first time.
I can accept the 'mistranslations' this ep as it can be interpreted how they translated it but nothing will ever beat "Above and below, only I dominate." LMAOOO

Sukuna’s domain expansion is called 伏魔御厨子(Fukuma-Mizushi) In Japanese, “zushi” translates to “kitchen”, and the “Mi” is an honorific, so a direct translation for “Mizushi” would be “honored kitchen”
zushi, with those Kanji refers to small buddhist shrines used to store important items. While yes, 厨 means kitchen, that's about it tying it to that meaning.
"Malevolent Kitchen" is another correct translation. Malevolent Shrine is also correct, but in Japanese a lot of Sukuna's abilities have a connection to food and cooking, including Malevolent Shrine, as the Kanji can be read as "Hell's/Demon's Kitchen" so they likely changed the translation to communicate that better in English.
... no wonder he likes Uraume so much. Bro is into cooking with his heart and soul. Totally explains his sudden fire power in all that slicing and dicing.. ... does that make Sukuna "that one time Gordon Ramsay got incarnated and the King of the Curses"??
Hole in Shibuya would be like 60 m bigger if Megumi just wasn't laying there. Damn Sukuna pretty much fights Megumi but saves him at the same time. Even after whole thing he used like last seconds of him being out to bring Megumi to doctor. I just wonder if Mahoraga in a way exhausted Sukuna because otherwise Sukuna would actually kill everyone in Shibuya except Megumi.
I think kitchen is more accurate actually, zushi can technically mean kitchen or cabinet, and the cabinet can be used to place small buddhist statues and mementos. But look at Sukuna's moves, the slicing, cleaving and fire, literally all kitchen moves. Edit: and his domain's image has a big open mouth in the background
Actually, Sukuna does have 2 distinct Domain expansions. Malevolent Shrine is what it’s called when he seals it within a barrier like normal. Malevolent Kitchen is what it’s called when he manifests his domain outward into reality without a barrier, which should be damn near impossible. The difference is in range and sheer devastation. Shrine can only affect those directly near Sukuna who get caught in the barrier. Kitchen can affect everyone within a massive space, like an entire city for example.
Idiot they both are the same thing it's just a translation error. He literally walked out of his domain without condensing it both times he expanded it. It's a binding vow, he can't use a barriered domain anymore.
You're not alone. I also need to rewatch this ep a couple of times coz it's just so insane!! Of all episodes, this is the only one that made me want to rewatch it! Love every bit of it and I also wanna understand and observe Sukuna's technique and Mahoraga's adaptation to cross reference it to some chapters in the manga (coz I don't understand a thing in the manga, lol).
I think alot of ppl didnt notice inumaki was there the entire fight and he was within range of sukunas domain attack that killed all those people that's why those girls were talking about the guy with the megaphone...Just saying.
Nothing but a huge respect to the Animators for able to produce back to back Best episodes. Hands down JJK is arguably the Best New Gen. and Shibuya is Top 5 in my book.
Man this episode honestly makes me depressed. The cinematography, the music, the scale of it all, the VISION is incredible and I feel like this episode could have been one of the greatest of all times across all shonen. It just breaks my heart that it is so clearly unfinished. All respect to the massive talent and absolute badass animators for pushing through despite the conditions
The perfect episode exists! However, in the back of my head I know that a part of the soul and life of these individuals who worked on this episode died. The freelancers ain't gonna wanna be a part of this bs ever again and the full time staff have all but been ground into dust. We feast today in this episode but the situation at MAPPA is untenable, unethical, and needs to stop!
just some translation corrections for you makora is actually called mahoraga sukunas techniques are called cleave and dismantle and his domain is malevolent shrine
translation notes from @/lightning446, a viz translator that also has worked on JJK "Malevolent Shrine differs from other Domains in that it does not separate space from its barrier. Materializing an Innate Domain without closing its barrier is equivalent to painting art not on a canvas, but on air. A truly divine technique.” Malevolent Shrine has the old-style Kanji for kitchen, 廚 (kuriya). Also, 廚子 (tzushi) nowadays can mean “shrine” but the word was originally used to mean a storage for kitchen and cooking utensils Sukuna's domain is special because he opens up its barrier, and in doing so a binding vow is automatically formed to increase its range (Info released during this fight btw, not spoilers) Sukuna's slashing attacks should be named Cleave and Dismantle btw, dismantle being his default shash and Cleave being a specialized attack that can adjust itself to the target's toughness
I like how this season we’ve seen both gojo and sukuna use their domain expansion but due to their situation they had to condense it gojo condensed infinite void for 0.2 seconds to save the humans and sukuna shrunk his domain from 200 meters to 180 meters to save megumi
The absolute death this man can deliver with his domain expansion is akin to a nuclear bomb. First he vivisects anything that moves, then cuts everything which doesn't, and to top it off he incinerates the remains...
Malevolent Shrine - Fukuma Mizushi, the reason why it was kitchen is because the other translation of Mizushi is “women who serve in the kitchen of the noble family.” Maybe it's also due to the nature of Sukuna Curse Technique.
The worst night of Itadori Yuji’s life has come to fruition. To be honest, Malevolent Kitchen kind of works? But it is Malevolent Shrine, just as we knew Makora as Mahoraga in the manga.
It's wild how many people in the comments are trying to correct the "wrong" subs even though there's nothing wrong about them. I wish I could be wrong with that much confidence.
King Gnu said they made the opening for curses, not for sorcerers. So it was perfect timing to play the opening in order to express Itadori’s despair.😅
Technically speaking, it is not necessarily an incorrect translation of his Domain’s name, it’s just strange that they decided to change it this episode.
So it’s more of a consistency issue? Kind of like how in the manga it would jump between unlimited void and immeasurable void. Both are technically correct but it’s kind of annoying that they didn’t just pick one. It was updated to be consistent later though, so I imagine they’ll also change the subs in a day or two.
I know this comment might go unnoticed but just putting it here anyways. I really appreciate you. You actually pay attention to the show and remember how everything works unlike few other channels which gets difficult to enjoy seeing how many things they miss out on. You also go out of your to learn if there is something you are unsure of. Haven't seen any other reactor being this thorough with the show and keeping it entertaining with the remarks as well. So thank you very much.

Even though the subtitles weren't the best, I'm just going to share something that explains why 'Malevolent Kitchen' isn't entirely wrong even though 'Malevolent Shrine' is the name of Sukuna's domain expansion: So Malevolent Shrine in Japanese is 伏魔御厨子 (pronounced: fukuma mizushi). The first part, fukuma (伏魔), comes from fukumaden (伏魔殿), which refers to an abode of demons, and also can be translated as pandemonium. This is where the 'malevolent' translation comes from. The second part, mizushi (御厨子), could have several meanings: Disregarding the honorific prefix mi- (御), a zushi (厨子) refers to a miniature, double-doored Buddhist shrine, similar to a feretory, that is used to store important items like statues, sutras, mortuary tablets, etc. This is where the 'shrine' translation comes from. However, alternatively, mizushi (御厨子) could be interpreted as referring to mizushi-dokoro (御厨子所) which is an archaic word referring to a section of the Emperor's residential compound in the Imperial Palace, where food from the kitchen compound, meant for the Emperor's meals, would be brought for more advanced stages of preparation. Additionally, the second character zu/kuriya (厨) means "kitchen". Therefore, the alternative translation of 'Malevolent Kitchen' isn't entirely wrong, but you are right, 'Malevolent Shrine' is his domain's name.
there has been a debate on the song choice during yuji's melt down but i personally liked it. the song complemented the scene perfectly, making it all the more sinister and horrific. it really served as a bitch slap to yuji and everybody else hoping for a moment of reprieve. like to me, it feels like a mocking of the protagonists' and viewers' sense of justice which is often at the core of every shounen manga/anime. nicely done. 👌 and ofc, darius delivered too! arguably one of the best reactors rn. 👏👏
You said playing the opening gave you happy vibes, but do you know the lyrics of that song? Shits not happy in the slightest. It sucks for English viewers who can't understand but it absolutely fits the moment.

It's crazy that Gojo said he could beat fully reborn Sukuna.
It would be Battle of Gods
Malevolent kitchen is as correct as Malevolent Shrine. Kanji used for the name means both.
Nah i died at «malevolent kitchen»😂😂😂
Subtitles: Malevolent Kitchen?!
Me: Let him cook!
Bro actually pays attention thank you 😭🙏
I think kitchen is more accurate actually, zushi can technically mean kitchen or cabinet, and the cabinet can be used to place small buddhist statues and mementos.
Malevolent Kitchen is right, He's Cookin
Nothing but a huge respect to the Animators for able to produce back to back Best episodes. Hands down JJK is arguably the Best New Gen. and Shibuya is Top 5 in my book.
Man this episode honestly makes me depressed. The cinematography, the music, the scale of it all, the VISION is incredible and I feel like this episode could have been one of the greatest of all times across all shonen. It just breaks my heart that it is so clearly unfinished. All respect to the massive talent and absolute badass animators for pushing through despite the conditions
Sukuna vs Mahoraga was insane!! A worst situation for a shirtless Nanami.
"Imagine seeing Shibuya after Sukuna comes in though"
What Shibuya?
The perfect episode exists! However, in the back of my head I know that a part of the soul and life of these individuals who worked on this episode died. The freelancers ain't gonna wanna be a part of this bs ever again and the full time staff have all but been ground into dust.
We feast today in this episode but the situation at MAPPA is untenable, unethical, and needs to stop!
just some translation corrections for you
makora is actually called mahoraga
sukunas techniques are called cleave and dismantle
and his domain is malevolent shrine
Mahoraga is named Makora in japanese so that should be the actual translation.
@@Huh-oh3mxWell, why translate then, eh? Just leave everything as is said in Japanese. No need for subs
@@Huh-oh3mx yeah but every official manga translation calls him mahoraga
I can’t lie though malevolent kitchen is hilarious
They actually call him Makora in japanese voice acting in this episode.
translation notes from @/lightning446, a viz translator that also has worked on JJK
"Malevolent Shrine differs from other Domains in that it does not separate space from its barrier.
Materializing an Innate Domain without closing its barrier is equivalent to painting art not on a canvas, but on air.
A truly divine technique.”
Malevolent Shrine has the old-style Kanji for kitchen, 廚 (kuriya). Also, 廚子 (tzushi) nowadays can mean “shrine” but the word was originally used to mean a storage for kitchen and cooking utensils
Sukuna's domain is special because he opens up its barrier, and in doing so a binding vow is automatically formed to increase its range
(Info released during this fight btw, not spoilers) Sukuna's slashing attacks should be named Cleave and Dismantle btw, dismantle being his default shash and Cleave being a specialized attack that can adjust itself to the target's toughness
If you look up the lyrics to song. It makes a lot more sense why they played it
This episode moved me and the animation by muthafreakin Vincent Chansard holy jeez! My episode of the year it's not even close.
malevolent kitchen - let him cook
I like how this season we’ve seen both gojo and sukuna use their domain expansion but due to their situation they had to condense it gojo condensed infinite void for 0.2 seconds to save the humans and sukuna shrunk his domain from 200 meters to 180 meters to save megumi
Really liked it when he went 😮
This was a movie 🔥🔥🔥
Nah, I'd Adapt.
Too soon
Lmao, I love this fandom
Lmaooooo 😂
Bruh, the malevolent Kitchen sent me
The absolute death this man can deliver with his domain expansion is akin to a nuclear bomb.
Nanami looking like Guz from Breaking Bad 💀
It's wild how many people in the comments are trying to correct the "wrong" subs even though there's nothing wrong about them. I wish I could be wrong with that much confidence.
Malevolent Ķitchen caught me off guard.
Disect was suposed to be "dismantle", fillet was "cleave" and makora supposed to be "Mahoraga"
To be fair the lyrics to the opening match the scene pretty well.
malevolent kitchen 😂
Bro placed his hand in his mouth and start dismantling 😭💀
Sukuna really cooked this episode. No wonder his Domain is called Malevolent Kitchen
Kitchen is not wrong in terms of translation, but they really should keep it consistent in anime
Gordon Ramsay would be proud, there's a new Hell's Kitchen in town.
King Gnu said they made the opening for curses, not for sorcerers.
So it was perfect timing to play the opening in order to express Itadori’s despair.😅
Everyone knowing the insane potential megumi has..
Yuji: ...💀💀
If everyone pays attention to the flying car part there are FD's being hurled around 😂😂😂😂😂😂
I’m crying man why did they translate it as Malevolent Kitchen 😭😭 I mean Sukuna for sure is cooking tho 🔥
Technically speaking, it is not necessarily an incorrect translation of his Domain’s name, it’s just strange that they decided to change it this episode.
@@g0lddustt29 yeah yeah I know it just caught me off guard lmao
Malevolent kitchen got me dead lol. The translators are clearly trolling
They're not. The kanji can be read that way.
Y'all heard the rumor about the production meltdown, lower your expectations starting next week.
I lied... this episodee 1000/10 is the BEST ep !!! GOD TIER ANIMATION!!! forgot to breathe watching this crazy ep!!!
1000/10?
Yeah. Art exists.
It is kitchen because sukuna's cooking makora right there
This ep was only 30% of what the animators wanted to show 😢
Malevolent Kitchen cuz Sukuna about to cook
Skalingding ding ring ring ding dong Makora = Eight Sword Handled Divergent Sila Divine General Mahogara
Malevolent Kitchen = Malevolent Shrine
Fillet = Cleave
i died with the malevolent kitchen T_T
日本人でも理解が追いつかないのよ😂
MALEVOLANT KITCHEN BC SUKUNA COOKED!! 💀
Even though the subtitles weren't the best, I'm just going to share something that explains why 'Malevolent Kitchen' isn't entirely wrong even though 'Malevolent Shrine' is the name of Sukuna's domain expansion:
So Malevolent Shrine in Japanese is 伏魔御厨子 (pronounced: fukuma mizushi).
The first part, fukuma (伏魔), comes from fukumaden (伏魔殿), which refers to an abode of demons, and also can be translated as pandemonium. This is where the 'malevolent' translation comes from.
The second part, mizushi (御厨子), could have several meanings:
Disregarding the honorific prefix mi- (御), a zushi (厨子) refers to a miniature, double-doored Buddhist shrine, similar to a feretory, that is used to store important items like statues, sutras, mortuary tablets, etc.
and ofc, darius delivered too! arguably one of the best reactors rn. 👏👏
You said playing the opening gave you happy vibes, but do you know the lyrics of that song?
Shits not happy in the slightest.
It sucks for English viewers who can't understand but it absolutely fits the moment.
"MALEVOLENT KITCHEN" 😂😂😂
Theres a scene missing from this chapter, maybe they will show it next ep?
