I'm not Bulgarian, but as far as I know about Bulgarian history Vojvoda Petko was a hayduk (anti-Ottoman rebel), who is the most well remembered 19th century Bulgarian rebel leader, who fought to liberate the lands of the old Bulgarian Empire from the Turks.
He was also friend of Giuseppe Garibaldi and fought in Italian Unification movement - Risorgimento , between 1815 - 1871. There is his monument in Rome I think.
