  • Liver disease progresses through several stages, each with distinct characteristics. In the early stages, liver damage may not cause noticeable symptoms. However, as the disease advances, symptoms like fatigue, jaundice (yellowing of the skin and eyes), abdominal pain, and swelling may appear. Stage 1 typically involves inflammation and minor scarring, often reversible with lifestyle changes. In Stage 2, more significant scarring occurs, leading to fibrosis. Without intervention, Stage 3, or cirrhosis, develops, where extensive scarring impairs liver function severely. Cirrhosis complications include portal hypertension and liver failure. Finally, Stage 4, or end-stage liver disease, presents severe complications such as hepatic encephalopathy and ascites, often requiring liver transplantation for survival. Regular medical monitoring and adherence to treatment can slow disease progression and improve outcomes, highlighting the importance of early detection and intervention.
