Liver, the second largest organ of the body, is involved in various functions like metabolising food, detoxification, production of bile and many more. All of us have only one liver that supports us throughout our life and deserves our full care and attention. However, quite a lot of us tend to ignore it until it has finally reached a stage where a U-turn is not possible anymore.
In this video Dr. Megha Chaturvedi emphasises on the fact that liver cirrhosis is not the start of liver damage but almost the last stage. She explains all the stages of liver damage in detail to give us a clear idea of it.
Liver damage first starts with fat in the liver cells, famously known as fatty liver. If not taken care of, it further progresses to hepatic fibrosis marked by scarred liver tissues as a result of the liver's failed attempt to repair itself. This is followed by liver cirrhosis. At this stage, the liver gets severely scarred and reversing it is not possible. The best that one can do at this stage is take good care of the leftover healthy cells so that they can support your bodily functions well. If you cross this stage, then finally there is liver failure where no form of treatment can secure your liver. Thus, it is very important that you make necessary dietary and lifestyle modifications from the very beginning to maintain a healthy liver.
