That's his conscience coming out. Dementia can effect a lot of things, but it can't effect your spirit. I have seen this with people with dementia. there motor skills maybe slipping, but inside they are still the same person that they always were and every so often you see glimpses of that come out through their conscience. His compassion and concern for his ex wife after being divorced for 45 years was a sub conscience reaction.

He is a indeed a dying breed. My dad passed healthy in his sleep at 86 and I would have loved to have him around longer because growing up he was a workaholic and not present but I thought when he got way up in age I'd have that window for his presence but he passed gently in his sleep and left this still as a stranger to me. He was a sweet spirited man though.

I wish more men had your dad as a role model and hopefully through these videos you'll help some of the younger generation of men understand what it means to be a man. Your dad feeling responsibility towards your mother even after he understands they are no longer together, is an old feeling that is being relived because the concept of time is escaping him. It's not about how he feels now, it's about the fact that these feelings now are a clear mirror of feelings he has had his entire life and are more unfiltered now. I've worked with dementia patients and they're not all this kind. You get to see who the person truly is deep down inside, once their mind starts to be stripped down; and your dad's mind was and still is a beautiful one. May he continue to enjoy the rest of his days with family as he deserves to
