Thank you so much. I was gettings 3s and 4s in year 10 for all sciences, sometimes a U in chemistry. Now I'm in year 11 and I have achieved a 6 in physics and chemistry and an 8 in bio, I'm looking forward to increasing those grades by the tiime of our exams. Thanks!
we're doing this in year 9 and i have it for my assessment in a couple days -we started to learn half life at the beginning of our second term and I still don't get it until now where its summed up in 4:10 and I understand it perfectly. Thanks cause now I know where to go while my teacher talks about something I can barely comprehend
I cant believe that my dad found this video yesterday after I told him to explain half lives to me, also after I'd watched it in class and not listened to it at all 😭😭
Bro I'm doing synergy science and getting 67 for my grades (6&7) but I'm hoping to raise it to a 78 in the exam, 4 weeks to go and lots of this man's videos to watch
Seriously we need to appreciate this guy more than we do these videos must take ages and he does it all for free. What a legend, if I get a 9 in physics it will definitely be up to you.
At first i was little bit destructed by the circles representing the nuclei by trying to guess which one will turn red then I realised that I understood nothing which made me to watch it over and over again 😀😀
In our physics class we (attempted) to demonstrate half-life using dice, which were meant to represent the nuclei. Each die had one side that was red and the other five sides were white. We had to roll the dice all at the same time, and those that landed with the red side face-up had been considered to have “decayed”. It was a wild lesson
The answer is 20 seconds. From 1200 to 600 is one half life, from 600 to 300 is the second half life and from 300 to 150 is the third half life. Dividing 60 seconds by 3 gives us 20 seconds as the half life.
Let’s say we had a big block of Uranium-235 and another small block of Uranium-235. Would the half-life of both different sized blocks be the same? Would just the activity be different in size
No there have been no changes to any of the AQA specs since 2016 so all of the vides are up to date. They did clarify a point in the Chemistry spec (calculating percentage by mass), so I did a video for that.
Could you please answer this question A radioactive source's activity falls from 8,000 counts per minute to 500 counts per minute in 20 hours. What is the half-life of the source?
A half-life usually describes the decay of discrete entities, such as radioactive atoms. So in this case you are correct. He just describes it differently i think.
This man really out here carrying the UK's grades

not just Uk, believe me.

I find it amazing that I could practically study my whole physics subjects with these videos without even needing my teacher.
SharpTech Gaming and he does it 1/6 of the time teachers do
You don't need the textbook when you have this
I find it amazing how many people also have terrible science teachers and need these videos!
So true
You might even find them...
(Useless) is that a suitable word to describe them 🤔
innit
lol the way teacher's at school are starting to just show sean's vids because they cant be asked

hi. ur right but my teacher fro physics is strict and i dont understand her muh or not at all so i came here and this teacher is the best.

did you do well in your gcse science exam?
bruh. lmao, how did it go?

He is not just teaching he is changing lives....
Gordon doesn't need to hear all this, he's a highly trained professional
i struggled to learn this in an hour at skl but now i just learnt it all in 4 minutes. wow
ew imagine disliking this video 🤢
My teacher literally took a whole lesson to ‘teach’ me about what you just summed up better in 4 minutes😂
Tanya Hanley that's the main reason to why I hate school
Does that really make sense 🤔

The whole country’s GCSEs are because of this man
All your videos are lit. Thanks a lot, one of your 5 minutes videos are better, more concise than 1 hour lectures by my teachers.
Who tf disliking this legend
they thought they were clicking on a video about half life the game series

I love that you do a quick review of the previous video, such a good idea.
Our classes are disruptive as ever so I'll always be going home, watch these and actually learning for once, seemingly.
All the comments are about how crap our teachers are 😂😂

There are 8.8 million Y11 students in UK, but only 453K of them have subscribed. Isnt that peculiar?
There are just over 560,000 students in Year 11 in the UK. Your number is for every single student in school in the UK.

Thanks a lot - I don't think I was ever taught how to work out the half-life after a certain amount of time and I actually took triple science too!
We did this - it was thrilling
Shawn saving us as usual
Whos noticed he wears the same tie in every vid? 🤣
can you answer this question for me :
In 1 minute, the count rate changes from 1200 counts/sec to 150 counts/sec. Find the half life
The answer is 20 seconds. From 1200 to 600 is one half life, from 600 to 300 is the second half life and from 300 to 150 is the third half life. Dividing 60 seconds by 3 gives us 20 seconds as the half life.
He gave me a 9 in biology in my first Mocks
thanks for carrying my science grades
Gordon doesn't need to hear all this, he's a highly trained professional.
The definition of 'half life' makes sense if we're talking about alpha decay but what about gamma for example where the no of nuclei doesn't change?
You would count "undecayed nuclei" as nuclei which had not emitted a gamma ray.
@@Freesciencelessons ok thank you!

great vid! thanks!

Hi,
Is there any change in curriculum as this video dates back to five years.
Would it be sufficient to watch these videos for this years exams
No there have been no changes to any of the AQA specs since 2016 so all of the vides are up to date. They did clarify a point in the Chemistry spec (calculating percentage by mass), so I did a video for that.
Could you please answer this question A radioactive source's activity falls from 8,000 counts per minute to 500 counts per minute in 20 hours. What is the half-life of the source?
i thought this was Half life (the video game)
i thought it was the song that goes 'half life' at one point, im too sleep deprived
This is the real half life 3 lol
Sir, i thought Half Life was the time it takes for half of the radioactive atoms to decay. Am i incorrect?
A half-life usually describes the decay of discrete entities, such as radioactive atoms. So in this case you are correct. He just describes it differently i think.
your right i think he just put it in a deifferent way
Rise and shine Mr. Freeman.
these are great, thank you!
U are a robot legend 🙌🙌🙌
Thank you

thx u sir, I hope I do well in the physics mock + real exam
At least in these videos, we don't start watching Half-Life Alyx walkthroughs because we are bored
As you wrote count rate OR activity, does that mean they are the same thing?
