I made the same mistake when I put the fencing up around our garden. I wish I would have put a larger gate in so that I can easily get a tractor in and out. I only put a small walk-through gate in that is just large enough for my walk-behind tiller.
You seem to be smiling in every video now. I wonder why? 😁 I'm in the same garden boat as you. Fenced mine in years ago and eventually my age and the age of the walk behind tiller became issues. Got a PTO tiller for the tractor this spring and it sure makes quick work of things. Except for the many passes and angles needed because of the dang fencing. I'm also still struggling with lowering and raising it properly to not have ruts that I have to hand backfill but I suppose that'll come in time. Keep plugging away and inspiring folks.
forget the seals in those old gearboxes. just fill them with john deere corn head grease. works really good in gear boxes, steering boxes and other farm related applications, corn head grease is about the thinnest grease there is and it won't flow through seals but will lube the gears.
I did this with gearbox grease. After realizing how over my head and under equipped I was to take on such a job. Seems to have done the trick. At least three years in and no issues. Evan at least has that hydraulic puller, which will definitely make the job a lot easier for him.
Everything is looking good. Your garden will come alive in 2-3 weeks as plants begin to grow. Hopefully you will get some rain to help with that. Blessings
Use the fence you took down to fill the garden back in, just convert it to temporary panels. Weld up some sockets to put in the ground for the fence posts, painted with galvanized paint and concrete around them, top flush with ground. Take some 14gauge metal about 3/4"wide and 2 inches long, drill 2 holes for screws and use them as clips to hold the fence up; back 1 out to remove the fence next time. It might work. 2nd suggestion- water your garden with pond water. Find a good spot and free fish poop for fertilizer. Pond water always seems to grow a great garden, way better than well or city water.
Thanks Evan and Rebecca Another great video always very interesting and relaxing to watch and its good to hear about your future projects I am always envious of your beautiful green countryside, as i live in Perth, Western Australia and its usually dry in the summer months and not so green. Although we do have beautiful beaches. Have a nice day
Enjoying getting more videos! Have been amazed at how much you and Rebecca have improved your property. You seem more relaxed since you cut back to only two full time jobs homesteader and content creator.
That duckweed is full of nitrogen as well as other nutrients and would have been a beautiful amendment to till into your soil! You really ought to take time to harvest as much as you can and toss it in your compost piles with all the animal clean outs. You will have excellent compost for next year's garden. You will soon have a thriving garden, even without the weed fabric. And now that you're retired, you can keep up with the weeds!😉
Looking good Evan, to save a LOT of time, have a look at the No Dig (No Till) Garden method. Your harvests increase massively and the soil health improves. @charlesdowding has a great channel explaining and demonstrating No Dig, certainly worth a look. Lots more time saved to do other things. 👍
I would've been interested in seeing the pond cleanup! That's something I deal with a couple times each summer. I'm always looking for more efficient ways to get my least favorite chore done!
JudithB I just got my beans planted and still got to get cuc seeds planted. Local gardeners say to wait on squash and plant in July to avoid squash borers and beetles so hope this helps on the melons, squash and pumpkins too. Our frost day is end of October so plenty of time. I am trying to get this place mowed this week while the temp and humidity is better and continue pruning. We burned 6 piles of brush Monday, but fire season is coming quickly here in Arkansas. My barn has paths through it and with a fan it could be an inside cleanup job!!! LOL!! The pond looks nice and clean, but I would prune those trees up too!!
I suspect you will find that trying to start a garden in July will not work out well. Too hot and too dry for the young plants to do well. They don't have the necessary root system to see them through the hot dry weather. As a result, the young plants that germinate will be stunted and late to develop. love your father's tiller. Also, you need to buy a walk-behind seed planter.
It doesn't look to me like Evan is retired, he's still working a 40 + hour week. Farming and a youtube channel is a full time job. Its still a job even though he enjoys it. I wouldn't call that retired.
I like gardening with the tractor for faster composting and readying may sone more temporary there. If the animals can be kept out. 1st how about picture frames of that wire fencing back up on hooks when done tractor working for practicing . And steel posting ever 4 middle ones. When need to.
I like what you did with the garden, I think it was the right thing to pull out the post to open up the entrance to it. Your place is looking nice, good job. Good luck on your project plans for July. Have a nice evening!
The duckweed is a valuable resource for chickens and livestock. Check out videos from Takota Coen, he incorporates it into all of his feed. I don’t usually comment but you are looking at it as a nuisance and it is a blessing if you harvest it and utilize it to cut down on feed costs. Just my two cents. Keep up the good work, so glad I found your channel!
Remove you center post, auger a hole, put pvc pipe in, then your post, then remove it when you pull the tractor in or put them all in pvc and make what fence you have up into panels. Connect the fencing to 2×4s then screw them to the post. It would have the same look. I thought about last year.Sorry Evan!!
Your dedication to gardening and planning upcoming projects is truly admirable! You bring such care and enthusiasm to cultivating your garden and preparing for future endeavors, making every season a time of growth and excitement. And I'm Floating Village Life.
Evan you make a lot of extra work for yourself, if the compost is well composted you don't need to till it, you can plant straight into it, if it's not quite ready apply it after the growing season and let it sit all winter and it will be ready come spring time. Work smarter not harder
You can put in a fall garden if your up north but down south. Most if summer crop have or needed to have been planted. It takes 5-6 month for some veggies to produce potatoes it's to hot.
I was beginning to wonder if you was working on your garden. I used a similar weed fabric you used and made modifications to my garden because of what I saw you do to yours. Mine is not as big just one cattle panel wide and 2 panels long , so 16 by 32 is enough to keep me more than busy in the garden. Love what you do keep up the good work. 👍
I suggest you till in your compost then plant the entire garden in beans and peas. Then till them in. Then repeat until frost. Next season you will have much better soil.
Just looking at your duck weed problem. I was wondering if surface aeration would work better. Instead of churning up the lower level of your water maybe aeration of the surface would help. Just a thought. Love watching your videos and the projects you do.
After watching your video, I realized that we have the same fencing. We purchased ours at the Farmers co-op, but Tractor Supply and Rural King sell it also. It is quality fence, never had an issue.
On the garden fence, i was wondering how long it would take you to figure that out. Your tractor is much bigger than mine, and we took out some fencing to make it easier to access.
With the temporary fence along the garden, install PVC pipe for receiving the post for easy removal and replacing of the posts. It's amazing how much more you work around the property after one retires. (More rewarding of a job. ).
You are like me always got a project going. I have the same tiller for my tractor I also bought a King Kutter 3pt hitch disk this last year, but I haven't had a chance to use it yet. One of my Kubota tractors is going to the dealership to get front axle seals replaced and the dust covers on the tie rods and getting the tractor aligned. I have a 6ft brush hog that I need to work on to. I always enjoy your videos you make hard work enjoyable and interesting
I have been wondering Evan , what do you do with all your spare time? LOL ??. Don't forget to stop and smell the roses every once in a while. You're doing a fantastic job around there and it really shows. Stay safe and do take care of yourself. Fred.
Have you considered applying a cover crop like crimson clover to suprress the weeds? You could broadcast spread it and the clover could be a living walkway.
We have a 5.5 acre lake out our back door. Don’t have any duckweed now we did before we got Rouen ducks. I also have grass carp.we live in Perry co Illinois.
Hi..... Evan and Rebecca nice to see you both Love watching your video homestead beautiful great good job BYE 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋👍👍 👍
Great Video, all those spring chores are catching up. Your garden will be fine, just need plenty of water.
That’s a lot of zucchini!
I have a friend that harvests the duckweed everyday and feeds it to the pigs. The pigs love it!
I made the same mistake when I put the fencing up around our garden. I wish I would have put a larger gate in so that I can easily get a tractor in and out. I only put a small walk-through gate in that is just large enough for my walk-behind tiller.
My grandparents had a garden. Loved the fresh tomatoes and watermelon. Grandma made a fantastic strawberry rhubarb pie. 😊
As a man with a pond. I sympathize with cutting the edge. That work sux.
So good to see you again maté great work and video and as always thank you again and god bless you and your family and your friends all the best.

Great work on getting your farm the way you want it. Stay at it!
Garden looks great, I’m sure you will get it to grow just fine

Our garden is behind as well. I'm still going to take a shot at green beans
The surprises never stop coming!!
Really enjoying your retirement getting to see all these videos. My favorite channel.
Evan isnt retired, he just changed careers. Hes still working 40+ hour weeks. UA-cam is a full time job.
Another great video!
Hello Evan and Rebekah
I would be harvesting that duckweed and adding it to the compost heap.
Thanks Evan and Rebecca
Another great video always very interesting and relaxing to watch and its good to hear about your future projects
I am always envious of your beautiful green countryside, as i live in Perth, Western Australia and its usually dry in the summer months and not so green.
Although we do have beautiful beaches.
Have a nice day
Make sure you do not till the same direction every year, especially downhill. You will move the soil downhill also. Just a suggestion.
Hi love your videos, if you drop some bales of Barley Straw in your pond it will get rid of all that green algae, 👍
The garden could use the straw too. Hold in moisture and control weeds.
Hello Evan enjoyed your video i still have to plant my garden so dont feel bad it will still produce lots. Have a great day, nice job.
Really looking forward to the mobile home frame dock build. Fence project is looking good.

Looks like a great garden area. Can't wait to see the harvest..

You need a concrete back stop to stop the flexing

Were getting spoiled in Evans Retirement.
It doesn't look to me like Evan is retired, he's still working a 40 + hour week. Farming and a youtube channel is a full time job. Its still a job even though he enjoys it. I wouldn't call that retired.
You doing great love to watch you you look happy after retirement!!
Thanks for mini update on solar too! Always appreciate you taking us along.

Your channel and property is the envy to many. You 2 have inspired me so much for my 40 acres here in Wisconsin. Thank you for all your videos
I like what you did with the garden, I think it was the right thing to pull out the post to open up the entrance to it. Your place is looking nice, good job. Good luck on your project plans for July. Have a nice evening!
Glad to see you doing more and longer videos. Happy Retirement.
Keep up with the good work love watching you on UA-cam God bless
The wood chip Back To Eden garden, reduced work and increased bounty, check it out

Your very correct. I watched an hour long video on it . I was in Vietnam and the guy raised ducks. Hundreds of them .
Amen, Brother... I'd love to have that duckweed problem on my pond, to supplement my hogs and chickens, just like Takota.

Skim the top of the water with a hose and floats then irrigate your garden
@greggandjanetprice3851 he tried that at some point and didn't have much success.
Does the duck weed hinder fishing?
If it covers the entire pond it will help deplete the oxygen in water for the fish.
Curious as to what part of Tennessee was the fence guy from.? I believe his name was Van.
Nice job with garden. Been on lookout for a boom brush hog mower g for ditched and around pond and other uneven terrain to reduce weedeating
You really need a dump trailer
Evan your lucky you retired, your gotta lot going on my man!
👏👏
start days early as possible like 4:30 am work till noon
then work in shop out of the heat
Better late than never ol buddy! Thats a great idea to use the trash cans to save the wood ash for the garden. I'll start doing this now 👍🔥🪵
Never mind. Let the rabbits and deer enjoy the garden'
Dogs keep deer and rabbits away. The dogs run loose, we just don't see them when Evan is filming.
How long have you been farming? You always make sure things are done right.
Evan, just wanted to say that I really enjoy watching your channel and really appreciate your content.
Are you still watering the garden from the pond water?
not yet. but going to get out the sprinkler pump soon.
😀👍🏽
For some crops it may depend on your expected first frost date wouldn’t it?
our average 1st frost is around October 15th
Thanks for posting Evan
Quick question about where the ducks go at night or house
Probably on the pond.
Your dedication to gardening and planning upcoming projects is truly admirable! You bring such care and enthusiasm to cultivating your garden and preparing for future endeavors, making every season a time of growth and excitement. And I'm Floating Village Life.
Did you plant sweet corn, watermelon, pumpkins?
Evan tells us in the video,
You can put tilapia in your pond. They will keep the duckweed down. Plus they taste great!
jeff i googled it looks kinda like a blue gil never heard of them
Evan you make a lot of extra work for yourself, if the compost is well composted you don't need to till it, you can plant straight into it, if it's not quite ready apply it after the growing season and let it sit all winter and it will be ready come spring time. Work smarter not harder

Hey Evan, did you ever start the solar channel you mentioned starting?
No not yet. But still considering it.
I was beginning to wonder if you was working on your garden. I used a similar weed fabric you used and made modifications to my garden because of what I saw you do to yours. I suggest you till in your compost then plant the entire garden in beans and peas. Then till them in. Then repeat until frost. Next season you will have much better soil.
After harvest, either plant field beans, red clover or mustard. Then mulch them for green fertiliser.
THANK YOU
Just looking at your duck weed problem. I was wondering if surface aeration would work better. Instead of churning up the lower level of your water maybe aeration of the surface would help. Just a thought. Love watching your videos and the projects you do.
Love watching❤.
Evan you did a very good job in your Garden .

Hi Evan I like your animals and nice garden
Do you have fewer weeds in the raised beds that you can not till? Shows you that tilling increases your weed pressure.
all depends what you plant many garden plants have Short growing time ??? don't like it hot do better when Cool
Very initeresting how we can make good fertilizer. I woulf like to have oak ash for the garden. Hope your gargen is a success.
County View Power Company in progress.
You are like me always got a project going. I have the same tiller for my tractor I also bought a King Kutter 3pt hitch disk this last year, but I haven't had a chance to use it yet. Go for "no dig" then you don't have to till, just keep layering compost on top! I think you'd be fine just mixing the wood ash into the compost
About 9'24" into your video, it looked like a big rat running in the back of the garden. 😂
Place is really looking nice..your down South you should still have good Luck with the Garden, just a later harvest. Thanks for sharing.
👍
Great job looking great love your videos thank you
Great video
Legumes. Nitrogen fixing. Kinda late for most planting.
I have 100 days till our average first frost date. Should be close on some plants.
nICE JOB
I couldn't help thinking as I watched you compacting the garden soil with the tractor that you would be a lot further ahead with a BCS.
I think you can still get a nice harvest!
I'm really enjoying your retirement!
You can always get a hand tiller for the garden. Plus, where are your dogs? We don't see them anymore.
Your killing me Smalles!!! Use a 4 foot length of PVC pipe and drop your seeds down it for planting, it saves from bending over.
Proven in my own garden them river rocks will grow into bigger rocks if left in the garden. They are like seeds rocks.
