  • Chamonix. The perfect blend of beauty and danger. Risk and reward. This segment from Warren Miller's "TIMELESS" highlights this famous region that sits in the Alps, at the intersection of France, Italy, and Switzerland. It's affectionately known as "Cham", and considered to be one of the premiere ski areas in the entire world.
Professional big mountain skier, Marcus Caston, makes the trip across the Atlantic Ocean to join Chamonix local and world champion freeride skier, Aurélien Ducroz, and together they explore the haunting beauty of this legendary place. Plus, by adding in former Swedish World Cup alpine skier, Matthias Hargin, Canadian World Cup alpine skier, Erin Mielzynski, and the local Chamonix Ski Patrol, you instantly get an unforgettable experience, full of visual wonder, daunting heights, and the rugged charm of this pearl of the Alps.

We lived in Cham for ten years, and my son skied for the Club de Sports. We've done some (!) of these runs.. Some! Wonderful place, best skiing anywhere in my experience. Off-piste skiing is the best! Have spent much time at the cafe at 2:30 - the Marmottons at the foot of the Grands Montets. Thanks for this..

Love the vid . Amazing mountains and "just skiing" - no acrobatics, just beautiful turns. Exactly what I love!

Right up there with best vids…. Super cool. I’ve never been steep and deep. And too old too try now….but is the snow up there kinda crunchy?

Reminiscent of the Blizzard of Ahhhs from 1988, but Plake, Schmidt, & Hattrup did it on skinny 210cm boards! Everything became "extreme" after that film.

If you've not skied the Chamonix valley you'd better do it soon.
I first skied there 35yrs ago and the snowfall and levels now are nothing compared to then.
In another 20yrs skiing in Chamonix will be nothing but a distant memory.
    😥

Sure. We're already into a Maunder Minimum but snow will soon be a thing of the past, forever.

I've watched the yearly demise of Mer de glacé and Vallee blanche 😔. In 7 years the loss is hard to explain and witness.

Unlike in America where everyone you meet in the ‘mountain towns’ is a flatland transplant, in the alps you get real locals working on the mountains.

Needs captions and for some reason someone, some where uploading this video decided that other people don’t need language access. Common now

I love reading about the deaths in Alps each season. Every local I spoke with has a story about someone in their family/friends dying. I think I find it the most gratifying reading about the visitors who die. The year I was there in 2017, from August through September, at least 5 deaths occurred just for climbers. Local guides say that the average is 60 deaths per year. That seems a little high, but it is an average.

Narcissistic attitudes from some of them. Took the polish off the fabulous skiing ability.

its the same in every mountain sport for some reason, a lot of the pros are absolutely insufferable lol

    • @cvn6555
      @cvn6555 2 роки тому +1

@@chamonix4658 I always wish they'd just show the skiing. I don't really want to know that the skiers were lucky enough to have grown up on skis (of course they did) or hear about their philosophy on life and how they are psychically tied to the mountains.

@@cvn6555 i think mountain sports can be pretty philosophical but yes I do agree with you. Not everyone was lucky enough to be born in the mountains with enough free time and money to dedicate to this sorta stuff lol. I do like to hear why people got into a sport, but a lot of it is complete bullshit outside of the simple fact that its fun
