The humans were about to unleash ancient powers that utterly terrified the alien adversaries. James Allen woke abruptly in his bunk on the CSS Deliverance to the blare of alarm claxons and flashing red lights. He hastily donned his uniform and dashed for the bridge, with Dean O'Brien, his bunkmate and fellow ex-navy seal, running alongside him. On the bridge, Ambassador Pryer, an Arcturian, was hunched over the sensor displays, his blue skin appearing pale. Captain Akio Tanaka gripped the command chair tightly. Tanaka looked up grimly as James and Dean entered; long-range sensors had detected an unknown fleet heading for Earth at impossible speeds. "It's the Crocs Dominion," Pryer choked out, his voice trembling with dread and old trauma. "They enslaved my people long ago." An ancient Alliance of races had stopped them before, but now they had escaped. Humanity, having joined the galactic community only five years ago, lagged technologically behind. "The Crocs will reach Earth in three weeks," Tanaka said heavily.
