These Teles and the J Mascis Jazzmaster are easily the best bang for your buck that Squier has ever made.
I have the Butterscotch Tele and my son has the J. Mascis and you aren't wrong 👍
Yep, the Mascis is a great guitar. Quality.
The Mascis is my favorite Jazzmaster of them all, Fender or otherwise. It's the pickups.
My slimline 60's is beautifully made.
Well the J Mascis JM is a fraud because they aren’t JM pickups
I'm so glad I payed the extra for my classic vibe rather than a Harley Benton copy. The Indonesian Squiers are bounds ahead in quality and playability than anything remotely in the price range.
Squier has really bumped up their price:performance ratio recently, this things is unbelievable for the price
recently? they have been selling these since 2008, and they have gotten worse recently.
WAAAAAHHHHHH WAAAAAAHHHHHH BABY ALERT@@unabonger777
I just bought one and it's very well made and setup out the 🎁
I bought a 60s C.V. two months ago and love the center switch. It has a meaty, punch when played clean.
One of these was just traded in at my local music store. It was one of the first generation CV's built in China. Brass saddles. Only ever heard of them but couldnt believe how it played and sounded. Needless to say it left under my arm lol. Nice review John and Zack. 👍
I have a brass saddle model, sounds better than my made in
Back in 2018 I purchased a used 2016 Telecaster Classic Vibe '50s. I was browsing through Reverb and found a butterscotch pine body Squier that had a factory stock 1-Piece 3A Flamed Maple neck!
I immediately purchased it. It already had Porter pickups and an Emerson control harness, what's not to love.
I have a buttery one. But that white blonde is awesome. I love that translucence with the grain showing through.
John, I’ve heard many pickers over the decades and precious few of them ever had me guessing as to what was next on the fretboard. You sir are one of those guys. I never know what to expect during your solos. I’m often pleasantly surprised. Thank you.
Definitely agreed!
These squier necks are great when the gloss is sanded down with the green grade scotch brite pad.
I tried one of these and a Fender player tele, As soon as I felt the grippy neck on the squier I say “NOO GOD! PLEASE NO! NO! NO!”
@@jaguarlongboard4605 Seriously why the shit do they waste time glossing these necks? Literally nobody on earth prefers a glossy neck. Two coats flat and send it out the door. So fucking dumb.
I bought this on Amazon on sale for $299 a year ago as my first guitar and I absolutely have loved it. Very versatile generally speaking and the twang is so good! Great review!
So jealous, when I bought my first guitar 22 years ago that would have been unbelievable. Even more adjusting for inflation that would be like $142 then!
@@sunnohh
I’m right there with you on that one, lol. Imagine being able to have just half of the guitars for sale today, compared to when we first started playing guitar and mate, I started playing 35 years ago haha 😂😂😂. Feels like yesterday 🤘🏻
I bought one 13 years ago. Fantastic guitar.
I absolutely love my blonde CV Tele. I can’t believe there’s such a killer guitar for less than a grand. Hell… it’s less than 500 bucks.
Just the guitar I was thinking about last night. Even better, you got the Gibson Les Paul giveaway! I’d have to give that to my sister in law if I won, who is far better than me at guitar and has been great to me over the years, she’d love that :)
I love it I only wish I can afford it I'm too broke these days to buy anything thank you for the videos awesome 👍😎
Have an 08' CV Tele 50s the white body has yellowed nicely sounds and plays great 👍
I saw a fender squier strat in antique white on a pawn shop wall, it was only 100 bucks so I got it. Now I admit I am one of those only American made Fender people but that squier is actually a great guitar that stays in tune forever.
I have a 2014 CIC Blonde with a flamed neck in this model and 2016 CIC in Butterscotch, they're keepers!
I love my 50s CV in butterscotch blonde. One of the coolest Telecasters you can buy at an incredible price point. I think it's nicer than MIM Fenders, particularly if you like a retro look and feel.
I agree, I es liked into the store ready to buy the MIM, but walked out with the butterscotch CV 50. A lot nicer. I just replaced the pots with CTS and now it’s even better.
Play a Fender 50s Vintera Tele which is MIM. There’s no comparison. The Squier comes second. I own both.
Love your playing and tone! I’m going to try one today.
Awesome guitar, forget the cost, even with the non-coated neck the action is superb. Sounds great with my Spark 40 Amp for jamming.
Spending big bucks for an axe doesn't always mean "Better". Awesome playing by the way, it really showed off the attributes of the guitar quite well.
I have the same Amp. Sound like Andy Summers :p
Talk about tone on that Fuzz Muzz. Just Sensational sound. Who says the psychedelic 60s are gone??? Great playing John.
Good fast review thank you !
I own a Squier Tele and a MIM Tele. I love them both.
I have one same color and all.I LOVE IT..
Awesome review and playing.
Love this guitar
Couple of nice things you played there. Can't take my eyes off the green wall-hanger...sometimes color brings different stuff out of a player; I'm in love with that one.
I appreciate that thanks, and yea haha I agree color can inspire!
I love the sound of these pick ups. Very warm, p90-ish
Nice playing!!!
very nice play!
What a fantastic video have a happy new year
Sounds fantastic ..looks beautiful ..always amazes me the snob value of human mentality ..Squiers in Australia you pay hundreds for a used one ..I bought an Affinity because it was beautiful ..great guitars in my opinion .. SRV played a Squier ..watch the video .
I have a 60’s CV Thinline. Great guitar, one of the best values out there.
I heard this in a blind sound test with the American fender tele
And I chose this as the better sounding more expensive guitar
I’ve heard many ppl say the Cheeper guitars have a better warmer chord tone and higher pitched solo stuff for the more expensive units
I own the Classic Vibe 50's Telecaster (2020 MIC Butterscotch)..
It's my main axe ..in my little garage band.. and my friend that owns a MIM Telecaster said he would have never paid what he paid for his if he played mine first.. it even sounds better to everyone that hears us play.. would recommend it to anyone who wants a great Telecaster..only dig would be the weight..mine is 9lb-8oz a real boat anchor ⚓LOL
✌🍄👍
Excellent demo was that instead of the insane shredding some do ,👍
wow, this is how every guitar should be reviewed..measuring the neck width, thickness and all that..very nice, thanks. subbed!
Body weight ? some have came in at 10 lb 8oz
My 2022 is heavy, sticky neck (most ever), tuners crap....everything else is great. Scotch-brited back of neck, replaced tuners, added brass saddles...for $313...a steal. Love it.
Same story here!
@@daveclinton4945 ...then learned to solder....and added Lindy Fralin Blues Special and now not even my new Fender Tele Pro II can keep up with it tone wise.
@@lazvt8469 right on!
I went with the butterscotch blonde model, was a tough choice! Love it 👍👍
What different colours are there? Thanks
BTB is the way to go.
My CV 50's tele is really amazing. It was set up much better than my MIM Fender.
Get the early Chinese cv Tele with brass saddles. = awesome
You can actually use the L shaped cable on the Tele, I use the one from Fender and that fits fine for my MIM Tele. 😊
Just bought the 40th anniversary vintage for 277 euros. It is not that awesome acoustically but once you plug it in... and the satin neck is awesome.
This sounds great. I have a Squire semi hollow telecaster. I love it.
Same here it's a stunner
They’ve turned the squier classic vibe into this generation’s mim fender. It serves the same role as the mim’s used to… a sub $500 guitar that with a good setup could be made into a gig worthy guitar. Will it ever be the best guitar ever no but it gets the job done and gives you great bang for the buck.
These CV Squiers are nice.
Been waiting for Sweetwater to restock the Sire T7s. Couldn’t hold off any more so I went with the CV tele. Comes in a few days. Hope it’s as good as everyone says!
Glad to see it has steel saddles rather than brass. Much more real tele
I have one of those cream coloured G400 epiphones with the 3 pick ups. I’m considering selling it or trying to do a swap for one of these Teles?
Do you think I’ll regret it or love it?
The G400s are going for around a little more than the cost of one of these Teles brand new price. I wish there was a music store locally rather than everything having to be online coz I can’t try one out or speak to anyone about doing a straight swap.
I have purchased this guitar and i agree
I too would like to get the Squier. You said these were Alnico Pickups. Are they Alnico 5 or Alnico 3? I plan on getting the Butterscotch Colored one. Thank you for posting this.
How about the volume ? Does it get muddy when you turn it down?. Are the mini pots oringal spec?
this is my first electric guitar ! bought this today
Nice playing dude . I think I'll get one .
Terrific guitars. The new ones are still great but try to find an older one with the Tonerider pickups. Much better, especially at the neck.
I bought the “white” one. What was sent to me was actually *pink* -ish, and the wood grain under the transparent finish was badly matched. So I returned it and got the classic butterscotch one instead. Couldn’t be happier. It’s a very good Telecaster. Some day, maybe, I might swap out the pickups as the output is a bit low. But they’re meant to be that way and they sound good so… who knows?
The white blonde one is slightly pink. I bought one and love that aspect. It shows up in the video a bit too. 7:39
@@dezene I guess it might all depend on how the wood is underneath, because that can drastically affect the overall impression.
@@stockholm1752 Yeah possibly. It's pine (which is supposed to replicate the earliest Teles) one way or the other.
I've heard others say there's had a pink hue to it. Mine is 13 years old and was white/ blond when I got it and has started to yellow a bit like other white Fenders tend to do. I have a new white/blond Tele too and they are both very different in color, but nothing to suggest pink in either.,
Mine was pink too, swapped for butterscotch
Consider the budget, I will buy an used Squire CV. It’s a good guitar for small gig or performance at bars.
I have replaced all of my Fenders with those tuners, just like the good ol' days. Lockers not needed. I wish they would have mounted the neck pickup to the body, like they used to not the pickguard.
I have had 3 classic Vibe CVC Custom 60s Telecasters I only have one now their hands down my favorite tele even over the American and Mexican Fenders that I've have over the years the value of these puppies are unbeatable really
Do you not mind the thick poly on the back of the neck? It’s the only thing I’m worried about. Everything else looks good on the 50’s Classic Vibe. Good split post tuners, Fender Alnico pickups, Bone nut, C-Shape Neck with 9.5” radius, 3 Classic barrel bridge saddles, string through body and ashtray style Fender bridge pickup plate. I wonder if it’s not hard to sand down the lacquer in back of neck because I really like the bones of this guitar. All I might upgrade is bridge saddles with compensated brass 3 barrel saddles, better output Jack, pots and cloth wiring, maybe different pickups (Seymour Duncan Hot Rails), file down nut slots and level/crown/polish frets and round over fingerboard edges for worn in comfortable feeling neck. Could be a hell of a guitar for not a lot invested, especially if you make the upgrades one at a time instead of spending all at once. I would love to see how it turns out after that.
I think they are good for the price. I have tried a few in the stores and found the tuning pegs and controls pretty bad.
The tele's are one of my favourite guitars specially for its punchy sound. If I were a richman I would buy one of each of my beloved guitars.❤
I know they’re trying to keep with classic design and feel. But are the pickups wax potted? I hate microphonic pickups.
Mine is 8.5 lbs too. It’s my go-to though.
Well, now I'll be playing spanky funk grooves for the next couple of hours. Thanks a lot 🤣🤘
IMO the trick to the CV is weight. Some of them can weigh a ton, especially the blonds.
Agreed, I've a 2016 Pine body in Butterscotch that weighs over 10 pounds!
It plays and sounds so great that the weight is just something I'll live with.
We need a "Heavy Guitar Appreciation Society"! I've always found them, all other things being equal, to have a clearer, more focussed tone which will cut through a mix better than their light-weight equivalents.
My spine takes issue with this however.
@@voiceofexperience Ha ha ha, Good Idea Jeffrey. I've also had pretty good tonal experiences with heavier guitars.
In addition to my Pine Squier Tele I also have a solid rosewood Tele that weighs in at over 12 pounds (and it sounds fantastic).
That said, I am currently building a solid Ash lightweight Tele. I anticipate this Ash Tele to weigh less than 7 pounds once finished. I like both (light and heavy).
How do you feel about this vs an American Pro II; is the American worth the extra cash?
Maybe my memory is incorrect, but didn't Telecasters used to have a chrome cover over the ashtray bridge?
I just put a Minty Green Teley on Lay-A-Awy this morning.
Next guitar will probably be this tele or the CV Strat. Undecided... both look and sound great 👍
It looks and sounds great! It's up to $429 from $419 as of this post.
Great playing and demo mate. Very inspiring. They're on a Black Friday Sale with Fender in the UK at the moment. £258!
I bought the Slimline 60's for £279 off Amazon. Best guitar I've bought.
Love the colours
great playing dude
These are great for someone who only kinda wants a Fender. I'm an SG guy and would never pay $1,500 for a bolt on with single coils. But, a good Strat or Tele at this price, I'd totally pay that for some variety.
Another thing you get with an SG is that detachable headstock. ;-)
@peterburi2727 Sure. With a Gibson. I have an Epiphone. Scarfed joint, less of an angle. Funny how the cheaper construction method is better and sturdier. Don't even want a Gibson anymore for that reason.
Great guitar…but MAKE SURE TO THOROUGHLY CHECK it over. I had multiple issues (bad volume pot, strap screws coming loose while playing live, and MULTIPLE frets that needed to be hammered down and one glued down by a tech. Eventually, I looked online and I ended up getting a new replacement tele from the shop where I originally got it due to Fender’s 2 year warranty. I love it (they are great sounding, loooking, and feeling) but take someone with you who knows what to look for if you’re not good at such things.
I love the early first generation of Squier Classic Vibes that were made in China.... Maybe you guys could do a comparison between the early Chinese Classic Vibes and the current ones coming out of Indonesia....
they were even better when the chinese ones were called modern player and labelled with fender logos
l bought a Butterscotch classic 52 vibe about nine years ago 'Designed and Backed by Fender' Crafted in China on the rear of the headstock....They are very good guitars although a little heavy...My only gripe... the chrome isn't very good, has gone dull. mine has brass saddles. For the price an excellent choice..
@@brianperry That's funny, mine was really light. So light that I think it was pine... Great guitar though, resonates great the whole guitar shakes when you strum it.
@@poopydonkey I got a lefty last month...pine...heavy.....nice guitar overall...and affordable.
I just bought an old CV Blonde Tele made in China 2010. Brass barrel saddles. Awesome!
I own one and also own a professional series for the money. I would rather get the classic vibe and not pay all that money. you could buy three of them guitars there versus one professional series and have the same guitar pretty much. that's my opinion... just change out the pickups if you want. better sound quality but they sound pretty decent for what they are... what's not to love?😂😂😂❤... awesome demo! thank you!❤
These have alnico pickups which are a lot better than the ceramic ones the other Squiers come with.
Recently got one. Really like it, but man this thing weighs a ton! I did not expect it to be so heavy compared to teles I've played in the past.
yeeeeees indeed really haevy
Yeah that's why I bought a slimline 😊
The neck is routed but is the bridge as well?
Actually have a Thinline and a Jim Root the next will be whichever one feels right for me
I have this guitar it's almost perfect - the only think I don't fancy about it is the thin neck and gloss finish on it.
agreeee
I had one. It was a great guitar but it was over 10lbs. I let it go because it was to heavy.
Is the newer Classic Vibe '50s Tele worth trading up to from one I bought 9 years ago?
Not necessarily. You should compare both models as China vs. Indonesia versions use different pickups. Some say China models use Tone Rider pickups (though not officially is admitted)
l bought a Butterscotch blonde 52 classic vibe about nine years ago.. Mine has brass saddles, rather than the chrome. i exchanged the pickups to Seymour Duncan. Thats the only mode l made...One point though, the chrome isn't very good ,it soon degrades and goes dull. overall though this is a very good Guitar Well worth the money... l believe it cost about €260 at the time...
does the chrome bridge affect the functionality in any way? Asking cuz I don't care for the looks.
I used to have a classic vibe butterscotch Tele. It was heavy too. Great guitar still though. Good luck on getting to 50k subs. The person who wins that Les Paul will totally shit their pants. Unfortunately I live near the outer edge of the realm, so I am unable to enter.
I would love to see u do a squier Tele vs a fender player Tele
Does this model have any neck dive? Every tele I've played dives until the neck is parallel with the floor. That playing position isn't comfortable for me.
None at all. The pine bodies are very well balanced with the neck. No dive.
They need to go back to the brass saddles on these. Mine from 2014 has brass saddles. Don't know why they swapped them out
I know this probably isn’t the best place to ask but I’ve had a few guitars all of which being squiers around 500 and under like a jag and a strat. I’ve been really wanting a tele should I just get this squier one from the vid or the $850 msrp Fender Player Tele?
Don’t get me wrong i’ve done my own research and all but it always leads to me not being able to make a decision 🤦🏽♂️
We have an (older) demo on the Player Tele, I loved it. I actually will be doing a fresh demo on that soon, but my advice is both are good. The Player Tele I was very impressed with and if I had to choose one I'd choose that. It's in stock here, hope you'll consider using our link:
www.zzounds.com/a--3979398/item--FEN0145212
Let us know what you think either way, whichever you choose will give you the classic Tele tone - my favorite!
Can i change the ashtray bridge with a modern Fender bridge, like say on the player series?
i swapped mine out pretty easily
Dang that tubescreamer sounds fat but very clear n crisp with the tele!!!
Do u know what pine squier uses, its def the heaviest pine ive ever picked up, i was thinking lightweight , mines like 9lbs. That dont seem right for any of the American conifers.
I've made sugar pine Teles at 9 pounds
Give me 5 classic vibes over 1 American fender ANY DAY
Of course it's worth the money!🤔
I am looking for a nice guitar to play a lot of blues. I was thinking about a telecaster, but if I win, the blues will come out of my gibson! mhhh …sounds loud 🎸 🎵
Indonesian guitars are on pair with good fit and finish, those people over there in the Cort-Tek and P.T Samick factory are well trained at what they do and some of my best players came from Indonesia unlike the Chinese junk that I avoid like the plague!
I have 2 CV teles made in china that aren't junk.
Better than the ones now made in Indonesia.
Also a fender modern player tele made in china that isn't junk.
Boy they've really jacked up the price of these since their first release. IIRC I paid something like $250 for mine.
@inboxmeontele_gramplayandtrade I'm sorry what?
It’s all the inflation Trump caused. It will take a long time to come back down.
YES!
Those look great, but it sounds muddy to me. Or did you just have the tone knob down?
What kind of speakers did you listen on? No the tone knob is not down unless indicated in the text. Thanks for watching
