  • I finished my day at Watford Junction, the northern terminus of the DC lines service from Euston and also the western terminus of the St Albans Abbey branch. Unfortunately the rain was still persistent and there is almost no shelter available on the platforms at Watford Jct. Consequently my range of viewpoints was severely limited. I must return on another day to capture the main lines from the platform ends. Unfortunately the project to bring the Metropolitan Line to the station appears to be dead, at least for the time being.
    Featuring London Overground class 710 units, Avanti Pendolinos and Voyagers and LNW class 350s, plus the 319 on the branch and a couple of freights.

    Thank you for this truly fascinating video to me. I was brought up in Watford and spent many days locospotting on platform 9 in the 1950s. In the 1970s I was a commuter into London on 310 emus but just before that I travelled from Watford to North Wembley to work by 501 emu or 1938 tube stock. The DC lines then still served Broad Street and Croxley Green. I shall now enjoy watching more of your excellent videos.

    As a Watford born boy it was great to see my often-used station again. It was never one of the best looking station but seems far more neglected station than I remember

    Another good video, as a teenager living in Stevenage we would purchase a Green Rover bus ticket and spend the day on the WCML at Watford Junction, tube trains were also seen terminating there at that time.

    If I remember rightly, Watford Junction was never a nice station to have to wait when it was raining. Well done , expertly film as always. Hopefully Mr Boogie didn't get too wet 😡☔☔

      Hi Peter. You can find a whole series of videos about the DC lines on my channel that you might enjoy. Perth is a beautiful city. Enjoyed visiting relatives in Riverton and Bruce Rock a few years ago.

      Only thing wrong with Perth is that it only has five train routes and all the trains look practically the same

      Yes, we used the train to get to Fremantle and Midland. Also saw the line to Kalgoorlie between Merredin and Northam. The wheat belt was fascinating.

    Shame they seem to have dropped the proposed Crossrail Tring branch - which could have soaked up the Paddington terminators.

    Forgot to mention I'm now living in Perth Australia and haven't seen Watford Junction for over thirty years. The bakerloo still ran to Waterford when I left

    Nice to see the London Overground Class 710s in action on the Euston-Watford DC Line. Suppose some have replaced the Class 378s and been transferred to East London Line with only few Class 378s still operating on the Euston-Watford Junction service. And 1 Class 319 working the Watford Junction-St. Albans Abbey shuttle service which I think London Northwestern Railway should keep them. But rumours has it that Class 350s could be operating the Abbey branch line.
    With platform 10 as a bay platform does Southern sometimes use platform 10 when terminating at Watford Junction from East Croydon. And some London Northwestern Railway operating a non-stop London Euston-Watford Junction service. Looks like platform 10 isn’t really used as much than other platforms. And Avanti West Coast & freight trains passing through Watford Junction.

      Plus I think there should be a passing loop at or near Bricket Wood to allow one train from Watford Junction and another train from St. Albans Abbey to pass each other. Just like other branch lines that are single track and do have passing loops.

    Amazed at the appalling state of the D C lines here (and over the D C system generally), Judging by the redundant 4th: rail debris and the bullhead track,I'm suprised that passenger trains are allowed to run over it--gawd knows when it was last renewed, The whole D C system seems to have a miasma of dereliction and decay about it even where new work has been done what with half-assed alterations everywhere even where L O uses it. And as for the general appearance just North of Queens park including the bakerloo sheds and associated equipment - words fail me. The tunnels around Primrose hill/sth Hampstead are rife with dangling overgrown bushes etc: and dirty crumbling brickwork. The whole set-up is a disgrace, There seems to be a jinx on anything decent in this area!

    Hi Again. Just to let you know I've just subscribed to your Boogies website. Until I found the Watford Junction video I didn't know the website existed. Over the next few days I'll be catching up with all on the website

    What do you use to identify certain trains that don’t stop at that station?

    • @BoogiesTrains
      @BoogiesTrains  4 роки тому +2

      I look at Realtime Trains. Sometimes a through train might not appear. I then need to check nearby timing points. Trains that are more than an hour late, or early, can be difficult to find. I make a PDF of the search result to enable me to go back later. RTT data is only online for one week.

    What is a “Passing Loop”?

    • @BoogiesTrains
      @BoogiesTrains  4 роки тому +3

      It is basically an extra track with points at each end that is used to park a train so that other trains can get past. Useful on lines with only two tracks where fast trains need to overtake slower trains. Also used on single track lines to allow trains running in opposite directions to pass each other. If you have a look at some track diagrams you might be able to identify some. Online you can look at Traksy. If you subscribe to Railcam you can also see the diagrams. Railcam is not expensive and a very good way of watching live trains, especially during this lockdown.

      @@BoogiesTrains How does that differ from a standard siding?

    Why are the 710s formed of 4 coaches and not 5 like the 378s? Is it to be more flexible with the GOBLIN services?

    • @BoogiesTrains
      @BoogiesTrains  4 роки тому +1

      The initial pool of 710s are 4 car dual voltage and cover both the GOBLIN and DC lines. The next tranche are 4 car AC only units for the Overground services out of Liverpool Street. I believe that there will be a small number of 5 car units for the North London line to allow more 378s to be cascaded to the East London line. ELL trains must have end doors in case an emergency evacuation is required in the Thames Tunnel so 710 is not suitable.

    2O41 for east croyden via west london line is that a southen train and if so shouldnt it be thamelink?

    • @BoogiesTrains
      @BoogiesTrains  4 роки тому

      Hi. Thameslink is only trains that cross London via Blackfriars. The Southern service runs on the West London Line. It has run for many years now. The start and end points have varied over the years but the core part of East Croydon to Watford has been constant. The 377s with pantographs fitted were specially ordered for these.

    • @oscarbaldry3399
      @oscarbaldry3399 4 роки тому

      @@BoogiesTrains Ok this just seemed really unusual how a southen train running on the WCML because i would of thought that they could build a direct service to Blackfriars to decrease journey time for people unless they made it like this so people that want to go to places via Blackfriars and also if they did make a direct that means they woould have to waste about £2-3 billion on it for ohd/third rail, signiling and new track.

      Boogies Trains To be fair you might have got confused with the large 8 car stop sign which is very prominent in the video at this point. Didn’t know if you can edit You Tube videos once they have been posted?

      Unfortunately there is no way to edit the subtitles once it is on UA-cam. They are embedded in the original file.

      It is the shuttle from Watford Junction to St Albans City. Currently operated by one of the class 319s in use by LNW. Details on Wikipedia.
