Rush Hour Trains at: Watford Junction, WCML, 26/08/22 Feat. LSL 87002

- A great evening session spent at Watford Junction on the West Coast Mainline where we see countless services from Avanti West Coast, London Northwestern Railway, London Overground, Southern and freight from Freigthtliner, GBRF and DB Cargo UK along with a superb appearance courtesy of LSL.
Watford Junction has gone through 2 stages during its lifetime. It's first iteration was 200 yards north of where the current station currently sits. It was opened by the London and Birmingham Railway in 1836. When it was first opened it consisted of a small, single story building that contained a first and standard class waiting area, a departure yard, carriage shed and engine house. During the 21 years that the station was operational it was also used for royalty however this was only brief when used by the Dowager Queen Adelaide whilst she was in residence at Cassiobury House.
The station was eventually closed and demolished and the current station was built and opened in 1858. It was named as Watford Junction due to the connecting branch line heading towards St Albans.
In 1862 the Watford and Rickmansworth Railway opened a railway from Watford to yep you guessed it....Rickmansworth. However the line is now mostly closed.
The station also serves as a terminus for the Watford to Euston D.C line which at stage was the terminus of the Bakerloo Line which now finishes at Harrow and Wealdstone. This means that the line heading north from there is purely worked by London Overground.
In 1984 the Victorian station was demolished and rebuilt to a more modern structure, there was a large travel centre and office built above the station which housed the lorry and bus manufacturing company Iveco. A much larger car Park was constructed to allow a greater increase in capacity at the station which meant that the St Albans Abbey Branch Line platform to be shuffled northwards to allow for the building work to commence. The station forecourt went through a change during 2013 which allowed for a new taxi rank to be built by shuffling it to the side of the station which allowed for a much greater pedestrian area and a much larger bus terminal. Although that completely went to pot due to the fact that because the pedestrian area is so vast it actually means that buses struggle to gain access to the station and the current road system really throws a spanner in the works.

It's a good station to come to for a good variety of traffic passing through
87 looking amazing as always in the swallow livery, but anyways I’d recommend (if you can and have the chance) to go train spotting at Doncaster or Crewe again, always lovely to see all the locos and Doncaster is always a good station to train spot at. Keep up the amazing videos btw I always love watching them!
The 87 was by far and away the highlight for me without doubt! Was amazing to see and hear it roar its way through towards Manchester. I will try and get Doncaster done this year if I get the opportunity to do so as it has been a few years since I was last there

Great video as always, but I think by now we realise that a class 350 with 4xx is an ex trans pennine unit.
I think so too, however this may have been the first video that some people have watched. So they may not know about the 350/4 units until now.
and that XC have had the tilt disabled on their 221s.

The different looking Ford Connect on the car train is as it's the Volkswagen Caddy version of the Ford Tourneo Connect, actually a rebadged and restyled fourth-generation Volkswagen Caddy in effect. Looked like the Ford Fiestas were only on the double-deckered wagons. No registration plates feature on the car trains that run loaded since they go for export.
One of the many things I love about the car train is the variety of cars/vans that get transported. It's wonderful to see

Freight/Passenger/Railtour-Tastic. The 87 looks and sounds epic with the MK3 stock and MK3 DVT. For InterCity Swallow, it has been truly epic to watch Tornado922, fully enjoyed it :-)

I loved watching the 87 storm through with the Intercity set, brought back so many great memories for me as a child watching the trains coming through at Leighton Buzzard. I think it will always be a never ending battle between me and the announcements haha
Aah, I saw the new C2C Aventra's at Milton Keynes, with Wembley Park as it's destination. It was either being tested or taking delivery, I'm not entirely sure. But I couldn't record sadly, as I was sitting on the opposite side.
My understanding is that those units are being taken to Wembley before undergoing tests on the WCML to ensure that they can run fault free for a certain amount of miles before being accepted into traffic
Great video Jarred one of my favourite stations Watford Junction. Always a great atmosphere there and loved seeing the 87. I'm the same as I can remember well the Virgin Trains livery, Network South East and Silverlink. Great memories.

They sure are! There's also a 90 in the same livery for use on the Avanti extra services. 86259 saw some use on another one of them for a bit with a blue and grey rake that is usually based at Burton on Trent as well.

When the 350s first came out I couldn't stand the noise they used to make, absolutely hated it haha. But I got used to it after a while, the LSL Intercity train was a great sight to see for sure!
