Many of the neigboring countries were all part of the same country when the Yanta was developed. As the official boarders started to become stable, each country maintained the Sak Yant in their own way
Sawasdee Krab, Sawasdee Ka !!! Thank you on behalf of our Thai brothers and sisters. Thank you for the compliments and appreciation which are good for Thailand. We know that our country cannot truly please everyone. Just like Thai people themselves are not always nice people and have open minds. You may come across a few taxi and tuk-tuk drivers as they can also be crooked. If you see any of these people, please inform the police or a Thai person who can speak English. That's how it might be helpful. However, as a Thai person, I applaud you as UA-camrs who write about Thailand. Anyhow your complaint that there might have been will be forwarded to our Thai people.
Thank you so much for such informative video, I am a Vietnamese who is deeply fascinated in Sak Yant and so is my family. We are planning to visit Thailand next year and will be getting our Sak Yant. May I ask if this process is painful when receiving on the upperback?
Thanks so much for this. If not, I would have been robbed by a fake one here in my country. I swear it looks so legit with altar, the outfit, the materials. The difference are, they use a text/prayer stencil and charge extremely high, you can even fly to Thailand with the cost.
I'm surprised they didn't mention that women can't be touched by the monks, but the Ajans can. My girlfriend and I can't wait for the opportunity to go get ours. I have several tattoos, but she does not. She has been in the chair but never went through with actually getting a tattoo. I am very excited to experience this with her.
Women can be touched by Monks, and Monks will preform the Sak Yant on females in the In-House service. They tend not to touch females at the Temple but this is due mostly to Thai culture not any restrictions on the Monks
where can I find good references for designs with the meanings because I read that sak yant master want you to know the meaning and can say why you want certain designs if you plan to get big pieces?
Lots of Photos here facebook.com/sakyantchiangmai/ But Sak Yant Masters like to avoid sharing their designs as they are used by those unqualified to do Sak Yants
Price depends on both the service you choose and the design. Larger and more detailed the design the longer it takes. sakyantchiangmai.com/sak-yant-cost/
New ink and needles are used. Some youtubers go to Wat bang Phra and do not give sufficient donation to cover the cost of the ink and needles (let alone the Masters time) and they get reused ink and needles because they are too cheap to pay for them
The stainless steel spike needles were swapped out for each person when I got my sak Yant from a Buddhist monk outside of Chiang Mai back in 2013. The needles would be re sharpened, heated with a flame, and inserted into a container of alcohol when cooled. Ink in tiny containers was always new for each person. Still a good idea to have your Tetanus and Hep A and B shots up to date though.
It is in Khmer in Cambodia, in Thailand it is also in Pali (predating Khmer) and in Northern Thailand also in Lanna language. If you want to compare the script, one of the Monk is using Khmer and all the others in the video are using Lanna language. You are welcome to compare and see this for yourself
You could get Sak Yant in Cambodia and Laos as well. They uphold the original Buddhist teaching to the highest form in most location. Be careful where you get anything study and learn everything before proceeding. Sak Yant was for soldiers back in the days they use it for war and to protect there homes you must uphold the teachings strictly or your sak yant wont even work.
By back in the day you are meaning 800 years ago? While this is correct they were used by soldiers in the Burmese/Thai wars, this was still several hundred years after the Sak Yant began. Back in further days they were not able to be used for causing harm, then they were used in combat. Luckily there has also been a further 800 years of tradition and changes in culture making new traditions of who can use them and the reasons for it. Just a few points from the Thai perspective which seems a little different to what might have learned from Cambodia or Laos. A Sak Yant is for the body (Tattoo Yant) a Suea Yant (Yant on cloth) is used to protect the home. They consist of different designs and different mediums (skins vs cloth) The Sak Yant is blessed and charged by the Ajarn and they work from day one. To maintain the power one must follow the rules. Interestingly enough, Thai people are not so good at following all the rules and have them recharged and blessed once a year or so. Not following the rules reduces the power of the Yant until it is devoid of magic from living a bad life. If it were true they wouldn't work from day one, gangsters wouldn't have found them so useful and people wouldn't get them knowing it was a waste of time from day one :) So you are correct people should research and learn. The Sak Yant is a thousands year old tradition and like many traditions have several different sub groups each with there own prospective. Even in Thailand there are several lineages each with there own different rules, I imagine if you add another two countries to the mix there are even more distinctions.
@@Sakyantchiangmai The magic is from the ancient animist religions being mixed with Buddhism. The original teachings of Lord Buddha do not include local animist influences like magic.

@@robertwilliamson922 This is true, and Buddhism like most other religions, change and include local customs and become different forms. Buddhist Temples were the schools in Thailand, and so if you wanted to learn magical languages you needed to learn how to read - this was taught at Buddhists Temples. Thailand like Japan and Zen, added their own traditions to expand the teachings of Buddha. It stands to reason that not having visited many areas the Buddha did not cover or make judgement on local traditions and focused on enlightenment and leading a good life.
