I tried the simple mat, creating the same mirror project and it was a nightmare. After applying it and applying the tile, I wait an hour only to hear a crash. I go to my bathroom and see the tiles have fallen and the strips hanging off. I re-apply the tiles. They struck. I apply the grout, tape the tile as demonstrated but when I go back to check , the tiles were sliding down. Some fell. it was a mess. I had to re-do the entire mirror. I used thin set premixed adhesive to secure the tiles. No slippage. The tiles stayed in place, and I was able to complete my project successfully. This was a costly experience. Simple Mat cost 30 dollars per pack. I only use two sheets.

This is EXACTLY what I have been looking for. This vid is kinda old so perhaps I'll get no response. Still, I was wondering what was used to secure the mirror to the wall. I know the mirror is gonna get very heavy and am concerned about this.

It should be fine if hung properly. Or you could do a border around the mirror on your drywall.

Will someone please explain. I'm confused?? Why did she apply the tile with the simple mat, grout it and then tape it for over night, and then set each one inch square tile one by one??? Why touch it after its grouted?????

It’s two different mirrors he just showed one way you can use the grout and the other way was some liquid stuff. Most time when putting down the tile you need cement first then grout , but the simple mat replaces the cement part. I’m no expert but I did my mirror using this method. Hope I helped you understand. Also, she put the tape because it’s a lot of weight and you don’t want it to slide as it may still be wet underneath, so the tape keeps it in place till it dries

The tape is completely unnecessary if you have done the gluing and grout. By the time you do the grout it should be on there for good.

If you use adhesive, why do you need to remove the mesh backing

      Yeah makes no sense

Putting grout on an application like that with a bag is ridiculous. It would be much easier just to spread it on and smooth it in with their fingers

How do I make the tile to go arround the 2 hooks at the bottom edge and 2 hooks on top edge of the mirror?

Do it on your drywall instead. Or if you need to cut the tile buy an inexpensive pair of tile nippers.

Ok so I tried this, with the simple mat. The edges don’t look near a polish/finished. Any tips ? Was any caulking done as well?

mines too, I used some of the grout around the edges

Cut the mat a little bit smaller on the sides and make sure your grout is on all 4 sides of each tile.

Why not use the outside edge of the large mirror instead of on top of the mirror? A lot of improvement need on this project. Like using a tool rather than your fingers to grout. Homes for Home Depot has many tools you could have used. 🤔

There are many different adhesive products you can use. Probably liquid nails would be good
