Nowadays the weather is crazy...very hot in the day and in the evening thunderstorms. Soon will be making a trip to Hatyai and hope everything goes well.😊👍

Your comment about Thais' great response to disasters (2:22).. I strongly second that! Saw it myself on my very first trip to Hat Yai.. right on the big flood of 2010. The hotel I was staying in organised meals for all guests.. and once the water started receding, lorries were mobilised to ferry people to various evacuation points. I was impressed 👍 Take care!

The first time I saw it was in 2005. There was quite a big flood, although nothing compared to 2010. Many people in the Kate 8 area were stranded indoors with no food or water. I was working at PSU at the time, and there was a huge operation (involving students and lecturers) preparing food and drinking water. These supplies were then distributed by boat to those affected. Thais are accustomed to natural disasters, especially flooding, and when there is a problem, they all get together to help each other. It's a really heart-warming thing to see. I'm glad you saw it at first-hand, too!

Thank you! The sky has turned very black again and there is more heavy rain. However, there's no need to go anywhere today, so I'll just stay indoors!

Stay safe! Now I really understand why the Thais love their pickup trucks.

Exactly! I don't like pickup trucks personally, but there are advantages! I was talking about this with my wife. My car would probably have been OK, but she has a little Honda Brio made from very thin metal. It flexes even when I wash it, and I doubt it would stand up to a falling concrete electricity pole. Quite scary 🤪

I actually got heat stroke here in Bangkok about a week ago.
    Just yards from my apartment
A local taxi guy gave me some water put me on a taxi took me home.
    Hospital had to be called
    I'm ok now
And gave the taxi guy some money later and said thanks
    Great guy
The heat here now is intense

I've read a few reports about heatstroke. It's a problem, especially with children and the elderly, not that I'm suggesting you are old! Some schools have closed here because of the heat. My wife has just gone to see her father, who was admitted to hospital earlier today with breathing difficulties. I don't know if it's heat related. Anyway, I hope you're OK. I've encountered a lot of rogue taxi drivers in Bangkok, but I've also met a few really nice guys, too. Fortunately, one of the latter was there when you needed help. All the concrete and tarmac in Bangkok acts like a big heat battery. Recently, we've been using the A/C far more than usual. My electricity bill was Bt6,500 last month and will probably be the same this month. Take care of yourself.

I had no idea what I was driving into when I left home! I read that there were 5 people in the truck that was hit by a falling electricity pole. Fortunately, no one was injured. Scary!

It was just a one-off event. At this time of year, there are often storms in the afternoon. They don't tend to last long, and even though the rain can be torrential, they don't usually wreak havoc. The problem with the electricity poles is that they support too many heavy cables. When one goes down, it starts a domino effect, and more go down. Apparently, around 10 or more poles were toppled. It's all back to normal now.
