Thanks so much for having me on- I had a blast! I’m a bit surprised by some of the takes about Haken in the comments, I thought people were generally a bit more positive about the band- but maybe that’s just me being in my ‘fanboy’ bubble 😊

Well, I don't know what is not to like here! But everyone is entitled to their opinion. To me, it is a fantastic album, very varied, it has modern vibe Haken plus some of their old sound. Haken is Haken. Period.

Despite enjoying Vector and Virus, I was concered that Haken had found a comfortable spot and were just going to stay there, I am glad to have been proven wrong! I am very excited to hear the rest of the album because the singles have me pumped.

These guys are amazing, saw them live yesterday. My jaw dropped when they started playing first notes of Messiah Complex medley. A shame they didn't play Nightingale from their newest release though, best single imo.

Haven't seen this video yet or heard the album yet but you guys are smiling on the thumbnail so I'm hoping that is a good sign of how you feel about the album! Can't wait!

Great to see you guys together again, i only found out about nathan when you guys did the mariillion ranking, now i check out nathan all the time, as a huge Dream Theater fan, im STILL struggling to get into haken, the odd song is all that does anything for me.

I am really enjoying this album, as with all of their stuff. :)
Here's what I am thinking r.e. why the band/album might not click for some people: Haken is not a band you can just "put into a box". By doing "a little bit of something for everyone", you, ironically, can alienate people because you won't be able to please most of them most of the time. Because they are trying to capture lots of different feels, there is no singular one that comes across, which I suspect many people want from an album/band.
On second listen, I had the thought that this album is a lot more like Virus than we might think on first impression. It starts heavy, then gets softer in the middle, but not without its interesting and heavy parts, and then blows the lid off for the finale. The only difference is that the finale here is crazy in the 'proggy' sense, rather than the 'heavy' sense. I do wonder if they will gain a bunch of new fans who are more on the classic prog side who might later discover their heavier stuff. As Nathan mentioned, the vocal hooks on this album are great. Who knows what kind of potential new fanbase this could unlock for them?

Great band, looking forward to this one. Haken use a lot of fusion style guitars and that can be a taste that some djent fans don't like. Haken change a lot and some djent fans just want djent, that's their issue, however, Haken aren't a djent band, they are truly progressive and that's great.

To be honest I think I'm just a little tired of prog metal, especially when the production is as one note as this albums, just doesn't do it for me anymore. I loved Virus but I'm bored of the sound now I think unfortunately. Really loved Nightingale and Sempiternal Beings though, I think those songs had the subtelty I'm looking for and felt like they weren't just throwing things in for the sake of it. Virus also felt more refined to me idk

@@mirkecWii calm down. I'm not interested in liberal review, wow this is great. from first album till now, def they lack song structures, maybe some vital players left the band and that's it. I don't follow that much follow which player is new, who left etc.. overall when I start listening to this album, I expect mix of first 3 albums and that's it, everything else is material made for more money.

Haken is overrated.... "Mountain" was great, but nothing is close to this release by them. In case of heavy prog early Riverside, early Mars Volta, some PT like "Fear of a blank Planet" is a lot, lot lot better.
