You should definitely do more book videos! I started reading again about 4 years ago and it now takes up most of my non-musicmaking free time. I mostly read fantasy/sci-fi, The Expanse has been on my TBR for a while but haven't gotten around to it yet. In no specific order these are probably my 10 favorites from what I read this year: The Dark Forest - Cixin Liu (really the whole trilogy but this one was the standout) Light Bringer - Pierce Brown The Tainted Cup - Robert Jackson Bennett Rendezvous with Rama - Arthur C Clarke This Inevitable Ruin - Matt Dinniman The House in the Cerulean Sea - TJ Klune Project Hail Mary - Andy Weir Of War and Ruin - Ryan Cahill The Book That Wouldn't Burn - Mark Lawrence The Name of the Wind - Patrick Rothfuss And a shoutout and honorable mention to Path of the Azdinist: Lu by Chris Sampson of Azure
Love that you're also talking about movies and books now! I recently read The Invencible by Stanislaw Lem and loved it! Definitely will be getting into more of his works soon 😊
I’m a prog and metal guy and am also a voracious reader. One of the first things I noticed about your videos is the Star Wars books on your shelf arranged in an approximate release order. I’m a big science fiction reader and have read all those Star Wars books. Some science fiction books I read last year include: To Your Scattered Bodies Go (book 1 of the Riverworld series) by Philip Jose Farmer Wool (Silo book 1) by Hugh Howey Sisterhood of Dune by Brian Herbert Some other books I read are: The Case of Charles Dexter Ward by H.P. Lovecraft Anna Karenina by Tolstoy On the Edge: The Art of Risking Everything by Nate Silver And probably the best book I read last year was: The Well of Ascension (Mistborn book 2) by Brandon Sanderson
You should absolutely feature more books on your channel. A few that I read this year that stand out: My Effin Life-Geddy Lee Watergate-A New History-Garrett M. Graff- it was way worse that you can imagine Prequel-Rachel Maddow Ron Rash-Saints At The River Meditations-Marcus Aurelius- I try to read a little of this every day. Dylan Goes Electric-Elijah Ward- the inspiration for a movie that you may have heard of.
Didn’t read as much as I’d like to this year but I read: Can - All Gates Open Crime And Punishment Both wonderful reads, especially Crime And Punishment
I only read 5 books last year, but this would be my ranking: 1. Toll the Hounds - Steven Erikson (Malazan #8) 2. Salem's Lot - Stephen King 3. Reaper's Gale - Steven Erikson (Malazan #7) 4. Carrie - Stephen King 5. Tales of Bauchelain and Korbal Broach Vol. 1 - Steven Erikson
@@jasonhill5583 I think so, I've even heard some people say it's actually a great introduction to the Malazan world, since it's not as heavy and doesn't really spoil anything if you do decide to read Malazan later. I only read the first volume though, I don't know about the second.
If you enjoy epistolary novels and sci-fi (and some added queerness), I would highly recommend "This Is How You Lose the Time War", by Amal El-Mohtar and Max Gladstone. I read it this year and it's definitely among my top three.
@@StephaneGallay I loved "This is how you lose the Time War" I read it three times to get the full effect of it as the first time I read it I had no idea what was going on 🤣
@@NotesReviews Oh, good. Did you read how it was written? Each author wrote letters in turn and the other had the surprise to read it and react to it before writing the next chapter.
I really enjoyed this one too. Another epistolary which is probably my #1 favorite book I've read is Piranesi by Susanna Clarke, I can never stop recommending this one to people.
