Suggestion - get a charcoal starter chimney - will get your charcoal cooking ready in 15-20mins. The revised Weber model that has the side vents is not as efficient as the older model with holes in the bottom - which I’m guessing probably clogged up during longer burns. Some folks are nevertheless drilling holes in the bottom cavity to aid airflow. Greetings from South Africa.

People can't look after themselves because they're domesticated.
I made this fantastic charcoal grill and it's quicker smaller and more economical than any of these fire boxes .
I just made it with thinking and experiment.
It's very easily made but all I get is where can I buy it.
This little thing gives me complete freedom to have a steak in 20 minutes from lighting up to even resting the steaks for 10 minutes.
I light it from the bottom like a charcoal chimney.but.....the big but is mine can be carried by the khantal wire handle......bad conductivity.
Then I can just raise or lower it to get maximum or minimum airflow.
Low or flat for chicken and raised for steak.
Then after that I can pick it up to put in a big pot with lid to snuff and reuse the charcoal.
Most people will scoff at this but I'm not trying to SELL it .just the idea of independence........

I attached wood dowels to both vent tabs for better leverage and keep my fingers from burning during long cooks. The smoked flavors are excellent.

There are two versions of that grill one with intake vents on the side and a cheaper version with intake vents on the bottom. The cheaper one actually heats up better with the bottom vents but the ash goes out the bottom and can clog up

The side vents are a terrible design. Airflow should come from below the coals. I remember trying to cook on a friend's Smokey Joe and we thought there was an issue with the coal.

That's interesting! I have never seen a white one before? How will you find it in the snow LOL.

Does your recycled charcoal come from your woodstove?
If you need to, you may be able to put the running Weber underneath the Big Green Egg to thaw it out.

When I got my Weber grill it was missing the same screw for the handle. I think that company needs to get their act together. That's ridiculous. I just used a screw from my toolbox.

The handle may be in 2 pieces and the screw may be inside.

I was wondering too. Isn't the screw inside the plastic handle? The lid holder goes on top and snaps into the plastic handle. Hope this issue is fixed. The selling feature of the Smokey Joe Gold is the ability to have a lid lock so he doesn't have to wait for the grill to cool down too much.

Bank all the coals on the side with the lid holder and it will get plenty hot.

Love this video. If you don't mind me asking where are you? I'm in Nesbit MS 10 minutes from where the guy who produces that killer hogs ap seasoning lives. Wild I'm seeing his stuff everywhere

Have you ever used khantal wire.? People can't look after themselves because they're domesticated.
