  • Take a factory 5 button Ride command and retro fit a new 7 button into it with a few small modifications
A lot of people seem to think that you cant install it on older rzr models or that you cant upgrade a 5 button system to 7 button system.
    YOU ABSOLUTELY CAN.
To upgrade a 5 button system to a 7 button system, all you will need is the 7 button screen and 3 cables -
    1- usb cable # 2414710
    2- gps puck # 4017533
3- amfm connector adapter available on ebay called "fakra Z female to DIN socket adapter"
You'll need to cut out the holes on the dash where the 5 button holes recess into so to accommodate the 7 buttons. Then drill a small hole on the dash for where the light sensor is on the new 7 button screen. Lastly some light trimming of the bracket that holds the screen to the dash so to clear the extra connectors on the new 7 button screen.
The only down side to upgrading the screen will be that you lose your mileage since mileage is recorded by the ride command and not the ecu. The engine hours are however stored by the ecu so those will be displayed by the new screen. The same goes when upgrading the older round style cluster to a ride command. The only way to retain your mileage is by having both original gauge cluster and the 7 button ride command connected to your rzr at the same time. For example with the original gauge cluster installed via stock and the 7 button screen connected with a 2019+ install kit harness ( as this harness installs it like a stand alone unit). After the 7 button ride command screen reads the mileage off the original cluster it will store it and then the original cluster can be removed all together.

So I did this on my 2018 and now the engine temperature, speedometer, compass heading, gas gage, hour meter, mileage tracker, engine RPM gage, and I'm sure other things don't work. The v2v dose work and the maps work, but that's not a good trade off. I disconnected all wiring and plugged it back in. I did the software update.

      Hello,
That doesnt sound like what should have happened! Is this a new 7 button or used?

So I just tried this on a 2018 Turbo S with Factory Ride Command and it doesn't seem to work either. I have both the cluster above the steering wheel and the ride command (unlike the video that didn't have the cluster as well). Do you have the steering wheel cluster and ride command or just ride command? I'm wondering if the pin outs are slightly different. When I have both connecting the steering wheel cluster comes on initially, then goes into a reboot cycle. If I put my old 5 button in, everything works correctly. The 7 button ride command I got was from a 2022/2023 pro r. Wondering if a either the pin out is slightly different in the newer models.

@builtitbrad would this approach work on a 2018 rzr turbo that doesn't currently have ride command? I would like to install the 7 button ride command with group ride.

It would have to have the ride command in it to upgrade to the 7 button with v2v.

@builditbrad Do i need to buy a certain 7 button? Will a 7 button out of a rzr work in a General?
    Thanks

It has to be a Polaris ride command with the old 5 button to be able to put the 7 button in i did mine on a 2018 xp 1000 so not sure to your specific year or model.

Yes i have a 2018 Polaris general with the 5 button and was wondering if a 7 button from a ranger would work on not. @@builditbrad

@@WilliamFuncke in theory it should be the same but i haven’t done one in a ranger or general.

@@WilliamFuncke you can buy it from Polaris or off eBay. Just fyi if you buy new or used 7 button the mileage doesn’t transfer over just engine hours

What’s the rca looking plug coming from the back of the 5 button unit you removed?

    • @builditbrad
      @builditbrad  Рік тому

Thank you for the question, i think your talking about the two wires that are not removable by a clip and one is for the radio antenna and one is for the usb plug that goes into the center console box

Is the 1st Gen dynamix software migratable to the new 7 button head unit?

I dont believe so. It has to have the ride command 5 button to retrofit to 7 button
