Parseltongue is weird. It's not like our languages where we have to learn how to speak it, etc. Parselmouths just know the language because to them it sounds like whatever language they're currently speaking. So to someone who doesn't speak Parseltongue it sounds like another language, but to the speaker they sound the same, which is why Harry didn't know he sounded different to everyone when telling the snake to go away

    • @calipidgious
      @calipidgious 11 місяців тому +7

I came here to say just this. :-) It was interesting to note that Harry does a pretty good job of recognizing that it's parseltongue when he has to, like to open the sinks and chamber, but if he isn't expecting to hear it it takes him a few to recognize it all throughout the books. It's really quite a liability to not recognize it if you aren't concentrating on it being parseltongue.

literally just adding on to this point, harry is able to tap into his ability as he is learning in this movie and SPECIFICALLY he's only able to speak parseltongue when face-to-face with a living snake thus far in his limited experience. in the first film he's chatting to a python in the zoo and **we** hear him speaking english - he's not, he's speaking parseltongue and so is the snake, but there's no third party to hear this and point it out so harry doesn't even notice. it's an innate thing for him is the best way of saying it. so (in the books) when he goes and looks at the snake-symbol sink to open the chamber, he tries to speak parseltongue and speaks english, so then he actually focusses on the snake and pretends/imagines it's real, which allows him to trick himself into tapping into the parseltongue and speak the right word/s.

BTW, they are leaving things intentionally vague with how Harry survived the wrath of Voldemort. No spoilers, but I’ll give you the gist of certain aspects they’ve said already. The specific reason Lily Potter’s sacrifice counted when James’ are anyone else’s did not is because Voldemort gave her the option to survive and she refused, shielding Harry instead of letting him kill her baby. This act of love gave Harry protection and caused Voldemort’s spell to rebound. The rest, including Voldemort’s powers that were passed to Harry and why Voldemort tried to spare Lily, will be revealed eventually. Fawkes is a phoenix, Aragog is a magical spider known as an acromantula, non-magic people are muggles, and magical people are witches and wizards. Love your content!

Fawkes is the real hero in this one. Literally flew off after delivering a portable armoury, heard Voldemort mockingly calling him a “songbird”, turned his feathered ass around mid flight only to come back and fuck up voldies basilisk so it couldn’t use its most devastating power in a ‘how’s that for a songbird, bitch?’ manner and then casually flew the fuck out of there again basically laughing. Absolute G, 10/10 for attitude, ability & performance. No wonder the main adversaries to Voldemort and his death eaters were named after him. Get that bird a platinum & diamond perch he earned it.

Also, he then came back a second time to check in on his rival (the basilisk) and gloat over its corpse only to find Harry whinging and dying & be like ‘I don’t need you to tell me what a badass I am, now stfu and don’t even think about dying or dumbledore be moving me in with those bitch ass owls & I ain’t having that’ only to then heal him from an incurable venom.

There's actually lots of witches and wizards like Hermione who have muggle parents. Sometimes the magic gene skips a few generations and pops up again further down the line. The opposite is also true. They never mention it in the movies but Mr Filch is a squib. Someone who was born to magic parents but doesn't have the ability to use magic. There's purebloods like the Malfoys and the Weasleys and then half-bloods where one parent is magical and the other isn't and muggle-borns like Hermione.

being magical is genetic, and when Muggles come into the mix, it’s pretty much just a percentage chance whether the offspring will have powers. it’s not a guarantee. which explains why Lily Potter was a witch but her sister Petunia (the evil aunt) wasn’t.
so it’s safe to assume that Hermione’s ancestors were wizards/witches but heavily mixed with Muggles, and they mostly weeded out the wizards over time. but the gene found its way to her by a small chance. 🙂

That goes for other animals like snakes and lizards too. The biggest natural occuring spider we have is the "Hauswinkelspinne" which directly translates to "house angle spider". It is a completly harmless spider which, at best, grows up to 10cm and is so calm and a runaway that it is more likly you would be aggressivly bitten by a newborn puppy. Don, so that you dont get confused for your next reaction, Richard Harris, the actor who played dumbledore, died after this film which is why Michael Gambon plays dumbledore from the next film onwards

Answers to your questions/comments made in the video:
    - Harry and his relatives live in the fictional town of Little Whinging, in Surrey.
    - I've never played Hogwarts Legacy or watched anyone play it, but from what I've heard the house elf you speak to likely isn't Dobby. I believe Legacy is set in the 1800s? (correct me if I'm wrong) and I'm not sure how long house elves live for, but I don't think it's as long as that (the HP series being set in the 1990s).
    - The Dursleys don't want Harry learning magic, Vernon and Dudley are afraid of magic and Petunia was jealous of her sister. They also don't want him to be happy in general, and allowing him to see/contact his friends would make him happy.
    - You have met Percy before, he was a Prefect in the first movie and told Harry about Snape on his first day, at the feast. And there are 7 Weasley children - Bill, Charlie, Percy, Fred, George, Ron, and Ginny.
    - It makes zero sense that Neville faints during the Mandrake lesson, considering Herbology is his best subject. Hell, he even goes on to become Professor of Herbology once Professor Sprout retires.
    - "Mudblood" is a slur in the wizarding world; think like the r-word, or even the n-word (although I don't think it's considered quite as bad as that, but you get the idea).
    - The blood on the wall was from roosters; a rooster's cry is fatal to a Basilisk, and Hagrid owned some roosters, so Ginny (already controlled by Tom) strangled them and wrote on the wall in their blood. Good thing she doesn't remember, that would be pretty traumatising for an 11-year-old.
    - Yes, by Heir they mean a descendant of Slytherin himself.
    - Harry has a natural ability to speak Parseltongue, he doesn't have to try. He's always been able to "just speak it" (well, since Voldemort tried to kill him), hence why he was able to speak to the snake at the zoo in movie 1, we just heard it how Harry hears it.
    - Lol, the "falcon" is a phoenix, his name is Fawkes.
    - Since I see you've seen all of the movies now, I can say this: the reason Harry has some of the same power as Voldemort is because of Voldemort accidentally turning Harry into a Horcrux. He has part of Voldemort's soul in him. Once that part of Voldemort's soul is destroyed, Harry loses the ability to understand and speak to snakes.
    - The reason the Sorting Hat was able to summon Gryffindor's sword is because they both belonged to Godric Gryffindor originally. Godric made it so that a true Gryffindor would be able to pull the sword from the Hat if they so needed.

It’s been eons since I read the books, but how old is Hagrid implied to be? Cuz watching this reaction made it finally occur to me how absolutely WILD and weird it is to think about the fact that Hagrid went to school WITH Voldemort. They were SCHOOLMATES!!
It is so surreal to imagine THE Tom Riddle sharing the classroom with our lovable Hagrid. And the scene shows they were aware of each other enough to know the other’s name. Aside from the little part in this movie, i don’t think that fact is ever bought up again in the series.
Did we as a fandom just kind of forget they were at Hogwarts together? We never considered the implications of them having been past classmates? I doubt Tom ever paid much attention to Hagrid outside of framing him for the monster as a scapegoat, but it would’ve been so fascinating to hear Hagrid detail going to school with pre-Voldemort! Imagine realizing one day that basically Hitler was the prissy jerk who got you expelled in high school!
I would’ve LOVED to see this connection expounded on in the books, but honestly Hagrid always got kind of shafted in “character importance” despite being Harry’s rock since literally day 1. And no, I will NEVER stop being bitter over the fact that Harry gave a name to one of his kids for snape over Hagrid!!! Absolutely criminal! Did you forget all the things that man has done for you? For shame Harry

    • @dreamystone
      @dreamystone 4 місяці тому

They weren't classmates. Riddle was older. If I remember right he was in his 5th or 6th year when he opened the chamber, while Hagrid was in his 2nd or 3rd year. It's also not surprising they were aware of each other considering Riddle was popular and Hagrid is half-giant. Hagrid had no choice but to be a target for bullying by some of the more prejudiced students, and considering well... Voldermort being who he is, even if he had never talked to Hagrid before in his life he would've known of him.

And you will really enjoy the next one, the Prisoner of Azkaban, the start of teenage area and of the darkness... It's getting darker and darker as they grow up, and the story is quite amazing... Then Percy Weasley is next. After are the twins Fred and George. Ron is the last boy. But the youngest child is the only girl out of all the kids, Ginny Weasley.

The weasly kids from oldest to youngest is Bill,Charlie,Percy,Fred and George, Ron, Ginny.
In the first hagrids dragon didn't get taken by the school they set up a plan to get Charlie who trains dragons to come and get him and get caught because they forget to put the cloak back on.. but Charlie is only mentioned like once in the films very briefly.. so many characters you wouldn't know if you didn't read the books like Charlie weasly, winky the house elf, ludo bagman, marvolo, merope and morfin gaunt, rudulphous lestrange, marietta edgecombe, andromeda and ted tonks, professor binns, Augusta Longbottom, peeves the poltergeist (who was played by rik mayall in the first film but was cut from the film) karkus the leader of a giant colony, borgin, hepzibah Smith, phineas nigellus Black, tom riddle senior.
So many sub plots or actual important plots that meant alot to the story just never introduced or shown or spoken about.. guants were voldemorts grandfather, uncle and mother and tom riddle senior was his muggle father all of which where his first kills whilst still in school, hepizibah he killed and stole the locket and cup from whilst working for borgin and burke..ludo was the commentator at the quidditch World cup and the triward tournament.. winky was barty crouch sr's house elf..the 2 tonks were obviously tonks parents who died, phineas nigellus Black was a portrait in dumbledores office of an old headmaster who was sirius's great great grandfather, marietta was the one who gave away dumbledores army to umbridge.
Just so many many many missed opportunities or story

The house elf in HW Legacy is not the same as in the movies.... Deek was the name of the one in Legacy, but the tie to the movie comes in that Deek had befriended Professor Weasley, the insinuation being that she is a relative to the Weasleys of the movie.

To your question, "Can snakes smell". Yes they can, they flick their tongue in the air, getting the particles on their tongue and take it into their mouth, in sort of a pocket at the top of their mouth and that is how they smell. They can also hear, but not very good because they have skin over their ears so it is pretty muffled and not very good.
Also, fun fact. The movie got the Basilisk wrong. They say it's supposed to be a snake, but they designed it just like a legless lizard, which are not snakes at all. It's just a lizard without legs, so it moves like a snake even though it isn't one. You can tell by the scales, the fangs and the fact that it has visible ears, unlike snakes which I said earlier have skin over their ears so they're not visible. Also a snake have a split lower jaw to help them eat their prey whole, being able to open their moths wide and wrap around their prey. A legless lizard have a normal lower jaw and they don't eat their prey whole, they take bites out of their prey like most other animals do.

technically the car is a crime you cant enchant muggle objects for risk of them making it back into muggle hands. His dad could have gotten in so much trouble, plus she was worried for their safety. That's why she was so angry. In the book she tells Harry that they we going to come get him themselves if Ron hadn't heard from him soon.
