Oceaan crossing from Saint Martin to the Azores [part 1] - Sailing Eva [107]

After our preparations, we leave for the ocean crossing from Saint Martin to Terceira in the Azores. The winds are favorable during the first few days, but then disaster strikes. On the fourth day, the autopilot stalls. Fortunately we have the wind vane as a backup and we can continue our trip. Moreover, we already have spare parts on board and when the wind calms down a bit we set to work to repair the drive.
For years I have dreamed of sailing wherever the wind takes me. In 2020, the time had finally come and Felia and I made a wonderful trip to Scandinavia and the Baltic States. Our Eva, a 2007 Atlantic 43, is an aluminum sailing yacht with lifting keel and built and equipped for trips to places just beyond the horizon. Starting in 2021, I will be sailing south with alternating crews.

Waarom dragen jullie geen reddingsvesten tijdens deze reis? Bedankt voor het mee mogen zeilen trouwens. Spannend.

We dragen 's nachts en als we met wat ruiger weer aan dek gaan zeker reddingsvesten. Uitgerust met AIS baken. En we zijn normaal gesproken aangelijnd. Maar met rustig weer en in de kuip dragen we normaal gesproken geen reddingsvest.
