So I agree that they can survive and appear to be doing just fine. Personally I think these fish should be in a much larger tank just on general purpose. Just my thought. Great vid bro
They should, but sadly tank size was out of my hands being that it was for a client. I pushed for larger, but it just wasnt in the budget. So Ive done the best I possibly can for them in the tank they are in, focusing on water quality and nutrition. Thanks for watching!
Yes I figured that you did. Maybe you can suggest to donate 1 or both of them, and get more appropriate sized fish for a 75 gal. Never know.
The Fish Guy just put them back into their natural surroundings they shouldn’t have to be limited to this small space
agreed, your definitely going to need a larger tank.
@@TheFishGuy why is one of their tails clearly mutilated?
Whoah!!! I’ve never seen trout like that in a home tank!!!
I had some brookies in a 300 gallon river tank setup years ago. They thrived. I fed them live food. They loved damselfly nymphs. Gotta make sure to have a chiller.
What size chiller did you use for a 300g tank?
@@tannersmith2000 I’d be willing to bet he made a homemade one. You can find videos on here
the tank is way too small for fish those size. they might be surviving but its still too small
Fantastic tank, those trout are looking beautiful!
amazing colors!
Wow I have never seen pet trout
I'm a fly fisherman and have been an on and off aquarist since I was young and my mom got me into tropical fish. Even thought about maybe going to school for ichthyology
This is amazing stuff
Great video, I've got a Brook trout tank , just started it a few days ago, I've got 19 Brooke's they are small rn, I feed mine cicilid pellets and live insects and they love it, what are those pellets u feed yours lmk please thank you
Fascinating fish!
How big are they now? Maybe 12 inches?
How much bigger do you think they are going to get?
Very cool! Something for anyone to keep in mind with brook trout is that they have a short lifespan. In the wild in ideal conditions its typically 3-4 years. In some very northern climates up to 7. In an aquarium, probably 3 years or so. Also, in the wild, they can be contained in small pools. Smaller than the dims of a 75 gal tank. As long as the water is good, they're fine. Awesome job on the setup. Great color from the cichlid pellets.
This is unbelievable! I never thought I would see that. Man this is amazing! I'm shocked. Lol!
hey do you think you could give me some advice for keeping trout? Like tank size and good water temp. Im thinking of getting a small rainbow.
thanks :)
I'm attending to keep two rainbows in a bare heavily filtered 55-gallon. They're stocked fish I caught in a pond. So far doing pretty well! They seem to really appreciate flow. I keep the tank in a cold room and cool the water with frozen water bottles and ice. It's pretty easy for me to maintain it in the 52-55 range for now. I'm aware that a 55 gallon is a bit small. If they get too big I'll eat them lol. Love your setup!
I was planning on doing the same thing this winter. In the summer how much ice do u put in the tank?
I put rainbow trout in my 200 gal tank they didd on dying I have everything. I have a chiller flowing water and bubbler. But they always get stressed after 4 days then die
How much gallons for a New Hampshire native brook trout they max out in size at 6 to 8 inches
Hi...great inspiring video for Brook Trout.
I am definitely interested in the brooke. I have a 225 gal tank being set up now. Can you to refer the chiller information as well as the required water treatment for the brook trout. Surely appreciate it.
How do you keep the water cold enough for the fish, also is this a good beginner fish. Would they be similar to keeping other species of trout such as rainbow. I apologize for my English it's not my first language
How did you acquire the fish? I’m getting a 300 gallon tank. I would love to have these beautiful fish as a pet. I would greatly appreciate it if you could tell me how or where to get them. Thank you.
Would a river trout work in an aquarium?
What do you feed them I'm getting 2 of them
What do you feed the trout? I got a rainbow trout today
Love your tank set up. I have a brook Trout that I keep in my room. He has surprising lived for around a year and a half with no problems. Do you have a set temperature that you keep your tanks at. I chill mine down to 55 degrees. I did a lot of research to try to find the most comfortable temperature for it but I found a lot of different answers.
Thank you. I keep these guys between 55-59F. They seem to enjoy it just fine, and yes you're right, there isnt a whole lot of information in regards to keeping trout in an aquarium unfortunately. Luckily you sound like you've been doing well with yours!
You find a lot of different answers because there are soo manny brook subspecies. The small deep water ones we have here like really cold water no more than 17 C.
Lake varieties are more warm tolerant.
Nice fish I was thinking of doing a wild brown trout tank but I read you need a large tank and a lot of flow on surface as they live in really fast flowing water so like water flowing past there gills but then again the water in a pond or lakes not moving at much so guess they wouid be OK to keep
Well done. One one the prettiest fish ever. At face value it seems these fish are quite large for that tank but I'm not going to argue that. I think they are fine and look happy. Have you ever tried a powerhead in this tank? Trout love waterflow.
Just got back from my brookie trip, tight lines all day on 5 n 6 pounders and we hauled up one 8 pounder, lots of brookies in my area, been tempted to put some In a tank myself but it's illegal here
Awesome I wanted to do this for a long time
Is this a normal off the shelf fishtank? How do you keep the glass from sweating?
I so badly wanna do a brook tank but the Initial setup cost would kill me. But someday mabey I can.
Awesome tank! I'd love some pet trout!
Where can i buy some brook trout fingerling?
Where could you buy some
These fish still around ? They look amazing
Do you need a permit for trout
Just about pan size now Jay.🤣🤣🤣🤣. Thanks for the update.
I've cooked smaller before.....haha
any updates on how the system is functioning since 2017?
What size tank do u have
Great tank! My favorite trout to keep (other than the golden...talk about picky about water quality!) Do you use a chiller on this tank?
Yes I do, I would consider it mandatory for the brookies myself. We keep it set at 60 degrees. Thanks for watching!
What size tank?
Did the third of them die?
You can have these in private collections? Wow! Do you know if there are any legalities or certain laws for it??
Nice squaretails.
I’ve been thinking about this tank for days. I think trout are such a unique species for the aquarium hobby. They are notoriously strong fish, has there been any stress/cracks caused by their aggressive swimming? My dream tank is a 300-400 rainbow trout tank for my study room.
They aren't any more "agressive" swimmers than any of the other large fish (namely cichlids) widely available in the hobby. No issues or any damage, not even to the in-tank 3d background. Your dream tank sounds like an awesome idea! Thanks for watching!
The Fish Guy That’s a relief to hear. Only trout videos I find on YT either are on why you shouldn’t keep them or it’s about aquaponics. I guess I’m also used to seeing them hit topwater hard. Ever since I watched KOD Joey’s video on a wooden tank, I’ve been itching to do the project and stock it with rainbows. I think a darker light setup with 4-5 rainbows would look awesome in my dark study room.
The colors on these trout are amazing! They resemble char caught out of Alaska. Not only that, but they are 3-4 times the size of the native brook trout I usually fish for in the the native northeast area. Granted, that’s mostly due to over fishing, pollution, warming and invasive species. But it’s awesome to see them in a tank setting, keep up the good work.
and also cuz the trout have an unlimited supply of food, when in the wild they are competing for resources due to the large amount of brook trout present in each body of water in which they are found
There are manny varietyes of brook trouts.Somme stay small otthers like the deep water ones we have here( europe) dont grow bigger than 3-4 inches and thats normal.
Brook trout are part of the char family I believe.
Brook trout are char
Maybe another update?
Cool trout. What's their activity level like? They look pretty active in this video but you're feeding them here. When they're just going about their day are they are fairly, active, inquisitive fish or are they more the kind of just coast on one spot for long periods of time without doing much of anything? All videos I see seem to be pretty contradictory in this aspect, sometimes the fish seem very inclined to move around other times they literally just seem to tread water in place, so I'd appreciate you take on the matter.
They look like they are surviving in that tank but not thriving, trout need lots of room to swim
What happened to the third fish from the first video?
He eat it
Absolutely awesome. I'm curious about your water I doubt it's tap water due to the chlorine in it. Are you using distilled water? I have 2 rainbow trout in a 90 gallon tank with distilled water and they were doing great at first but now something is wrong with their swim bladder. One thing is I don't have a water chiller and I think I over fed them.
Can you help me Fish Guy? You obviously know what you are doing.
A tank that size is too small for rainbow trout. I suspect your parameters are declining? Trout also need cold water, without a chiller they will become stressed and die
Are they still alive
What happened to the thierd trout
Hella colorful
👍
They need a lot bigger tank
the most beautiful freshwater fish of the American rivers i ever saw
The tank isn’t producing enough oxygen for the fish to be comfortable, they keep opening and closing their mouths and go up to the surface to “gasp” for more air (since there is more air towards the surface).
Bigger tank needed and a harder flow
Candy Corn brook trout live in beaver swamps with no flow. And they live in water less then 6 inches deep. Its all in perspective. Ive fished these fish for thousands of hours and they live were ever the water is clean.
Yes, the fish are doing fine but they would be mentally happier if you put them in a tank twice or three times the size. Props to you for being able to keep trout alive cuz those r hard fish to keep.
Let's put it this way: you can live indoors and survive living indoors because u have oxygen and food, but once you go outside and have space to move around and be free almost, you feel happier and more alive. probably the only comparison I can make to have it make sense
besides getting a bigger tank, you should get an air bubbler. trout live in cold, fast moving water, meaning it has a large amount of oxygen dissolved in it. you can see in the video that they are gasping for air
He does have the water chilled an air bubbler is not required for having dissolved oxygen in the water. Fish open and close their mouth constantly as that’s how they force water over there gills and the rate will depend on how active they are. The fish are not gasping for air it’s just normal behavior.
I respect this and think it’s amazing but where I live in Massachusetts it’s illegal where I live to have a pet trout I have a pet smallmouth bass though he’s pretty cool
How are they doing now? I would upgrade to a 300 or something around there as it will provide optimum space. Make sure to give these guys a lot of flowing water. Also, a cover might be a good idea because trout do jump. Cool tank though, stunning fish!
Are these guys still alive? I'm dying to know.
Statistically impossible, as their lifespan is limited to about 3-5 years. They must have been fun while they lasted though.
Would look better in a big tank
Very small tank for those guys. Beautiful fish though.
How did you got that pet trout
Where did the third trout go, and what happened to the tail on the one trout? In the last video the tail was fine, but now it looks a bit beat up.
Do you have plans for when these guys get bigger? Other than eating them? They certainly are active guys.
To me, brookies are one of the most beautiful North American fish there are. They are little swimming jewels. I'd love to have a tank with them in, but I have some concerns. The first is that I have no idea how much it would cost, nor any idea where I could get the fish from. I'm don't (can't) fish, and also, I believe it's illegal to catch a wild game fish, then keep it as a pet (I may be wrong about hat. I just don't know). The other issue is that I'm disabled, and I would not be able to set up the tank. I could probably do the feeding, and could probably get someone to help me clean it when necessary. But being wheelchair bound and not being able to pick up heavy things does limit my ability to build an environment.
For someone like me, how realistic is a dream of having either a brook or cutthroat or both trout tank? And how much would it cost?
The Fish Guy: Where are you located? If you are in a location relatively close (unlikely) would you be willing to set up the tank for a fee or price?
As a child, I used to love to sit by the river which ran through my parents' ranch. The water was still enough that you could easily see the fish darting around in it. Some of the fish were quite large, while the ones in the shallow water near the bank were tiny. They were tiny brook and cutthroat fry, and even though they were less than a year old, the patterns that identify them were already obvious. The cuts had the orange under their chins, and the brookies had tiny vermiculation and tiny orange and blue spots down their sides, with their typical white, black, and orang pattern already present on their tiny fins. If I were to get a trout tank, it would be ideal if I could get the trout small like that so that I'd have more time with them before they outgrew the tank and had to be moved to something else. I don't want rainbows or browns however. My heart is given to the brookies and the cuts. It's them, or none at all.
The fish is missing and the other one is beat up because trout are very territorial and they are crammed in a tank too small for their needs. When put into a small area the dominate fish will attack others. You could probably fit one small (stunted appalachian strain) brook trout in a 125 gallon tank. I would avoid cutthroat due to their size and legalities. Set up would cost around $1000. You could go cheaper or more expensive depending on the quality of equipment and such. A lot of states allow you to keep fish caught through fishing alive in a tank as long as you have a fishing license. It varies state by state so you would need to look at your fishing regulations or contact the DNR/FWS. Maintaining a tank while disabled would be difficult. I'd recommend a custom stand at a height where you could view and maintain the tank from a wheelchair.
@@Fishkeeper-yg2jo Thanks for the info. It's something I would like, but sometimes its better not to get what you would like. If I were to keep trout, I would want to keep them in the best possible environment for them, and from what you're telling me, it sounds like that would be a hatchery raceway, or a wild stream. I can't afford or access either, so perhaps it's better to leave them be. I don't think I'd want to take a fish from the wild and keep it in a tank. That would not be fair to the fish, which is used to a wild environment. I have seen hatcheries which offer brook trout, but they are all pretty far from where I live, and upon investigating, I've no clue how I'd get one of those all the way to where I live alive. Add to it the complications which you discuss, and it seems like it would be close to impossible. I doubt the state I live in would have a problem with it since we don't have any water here that is suitable for a trout fishery. But the welfare of the fish must also be taken into account.
I feel a little mislead by this video, since it claims that the fish are getting along just fine, yet there is a fish missing and another one which is clearly having problems. As I look at it now, it's a bit stunning that this guy is selling this as an appropriate thing to do. He seems to be bordering on being a charlatan.
beautiful fish bro... You CAN keep them in a tank this small but look at them man, theyre cramped and need more room, especially as theyre going to continue to grow. Trout are not small fish and they'll quickly loutgrow this little 60 gallon. May I recommend something such as a 75 at bare minimum? I'm running a 155 gallon and a 75 gallon setup right now. The 155 is tropical with a mixture of amphibians and the 75 is a pacific northwest native species tank, both of which you should check out.,
A trout that size, can survive in a pool 6inches deep .. with limited space. just like in the wild .. right on
Oh no he died. What happened to this tank?
I wonder if the trout were affected by the algaecide because it kills the algae and the dying algae caused the oxygen levels to be reduced (trout need high oxygen levels). I'm guessing this because on the bottle of algaecide I use for my koi pond it states on the label to make sure the water is well oxygenated because the dying algae causes the oxygen to be depleted (or something to that extent). Now with all that being said no expert with captive trout, I've never kept one in an aquarium. Just caught them and cooked them 🤣.
they need a wave machine for current they thrive in fast current
Trout often live in places with fast current but it’s dry or something they need
really need a bigger tank. They look great and are healthy even with cramped quarters so good job.
hey... thats a VERY small tank for those brookies. You should get a bigger tank for them. They are probably gonna get hurt or something.
Would a stocked size trout work in a 20 gallon tank?
their life sucks they need a bigger tank
Tank much to small and your trouts are stressed up they breathe very fast
That tank is way too small
I bet theyll be tasty cooked over an open fire
Tank too small man
They need More Air in the water they suffer r8 now
Dude they really need more space. You could survive in a 5’x5’ cage if given adequate food and water. Do you think you’d enjoy it? Also, they 100% don’t look like natural fish. Battered fins, fluorescent colors? These don’t look wild. They look sad.
Ya guy you definitely need a bigger tank
Gasping for air...
That’s so sad, not even 1 of them should be in that tank.
Well....nice video, nice tank, beautiful fish - but....WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT?! I keep 5 golden rainbow trouts, 7 burbots, european perch....but juvenile fish....no one larger than 15cm....it does not look nice, if you put fish that size in a home tank. A man can survive in jail - but who wants to get jailed? That's what these fish look like....locked up with no chance of having fun/joy....
Subscrible
Their eyes and mouths are too big for their body! They are pretty but stunted in grow!😔
Their mouths are larger because they are male trout that grow hook jaws
Is it just me that think this is REALLY cruel?! It's worse than a Beta in a tea cup! This fish naturally lives in massive damns and streams. Why are you keeping them in this TINY tank?!?!?!!?!?!?!??!
Definitely to small
Rainbow trout are farmed in densities up to 200 kilo of fish in a cubic meter of water.Brooks need more space thogh.
Torturing them
that tank is tooooo small
Woah take these out, this is not good
Disgusting fish keeping practices... If the client isn’t willing to purchase an appropriate size tank for these fish, they shouldn’t be keeping them, period. It’s also your responsibility to decline services if standards are not met. Clearly you’re only in it for the $.
Those poor fish, they are not meant to be in a tank. Dont worry I will report you. 😉
