As someone who is a retro collector and been watching retro UA-cam channels since Angry Videogame Nerd your channel is one of the best. This channel is the first time in 4 years since I subscribed to a retro videogame UA-cam channel, so kudos, great work
Not sure exactly how to compare, but my mother taught me that if you don't enjoy a book by page 100, stop reading it. Something comparable could be said for video games... at some point, if you're not enjoying it, move on to another game! There are thousands to choose from. 👍🎮
Exactly this, for modern games and tv series I seem to have self enforced a "3 hour rule". If it Doesn't grab me within that time period then I tap out.
Sometimes there are games that you don’t think you like at first, but then they surprisingly end up growing on you. I’m really glad I gave Secret of Mana a second chance. At first, I didn’t like it at all. But today it is one of my favorite games.
I’m absolutely loving your channel. I find pressure when I get probably 3/4 of the way through a game and I’m already sick to death of it but it’s like I don’t want to stop playing it and have wasted time and I don’t wanna keep going because I’m tired of it.
The biggest problem I experience with this topic is that people get so upset if you say a game is good, but you don't like it. There's a lot of games that I'm not into, but I would never call them bad games. I feel like there's a distinction there that people should really understand.
Retro:something new that is similar to the style n gameplay of a classic game, possibly zelda. Current: not understanding definitions like most ppl using the word retro on the internet.
I felt "pressure" from myself to buy Rocket Knight Adventures a few years ago, and I'm so glad I did. I never got a chance to play it as a kid. Amazing how many things we missed as kids without the internet as we know it today. But it made me appreciate the good games I had, rather than pining for the *next* good game.
After ordering my first post-childhood Sega Genesis yesterday, I will know the pressure of which you speak real soon! Thanks Bird, for rekindling my love for retro gaming!
Awesome! I love my Genesis, but the cart prices online are getting stupid. My advice is consider buying a multi-cart/everdrive or flash carts for the more expensive games. There's no shame in it. Happy gaming.
The Zelda series for me. I don't really like a single game from the series but feel pressure to play them and like them due to how much everyone else seems to love them. And not just Zelda, pretty much any RPG.
Happens to me with some rpg's that I haven´t played yet. I stopped forcing myself trying to "muscle" through them and instead, whenever I have time to play a game, I go with something "I really like to play" at that moment. Time is too precious and I understand first hand that sentiment of not liking something that is otherwise liked by anybody else. It's not the game's fault, it is just not (or past) "your time" to really feel it (or force yourself to feel it, which is worse).
Glad you featured Earthbound in this, for me that's the game everyone says is must-play and I just can't get past "meh". Everyone croons about how whacky it is and idk I think I've had my fill already of over the top whackyness. I probably would have loved it if I knew about it in 90s. I mean, I did, I had that ad from Nintendo Power that made it seem like a gross out game haha. Oh well, that's fine because I think people should play the _actual_ best game of all time which is Super Mario Bros RPG Legend of the Seven Stars. I'm not saying there aren't other good games out there, I'm just saying that's the _real_ best one!
Same. I know lots of people love the game but it has never appealed to me even a little. Particularly in the graphics department. Compared to the other RPGs in the SNES library, it just can't hold its own. And I'm the kind of gamer where if the game lacks visual appeal, I have a really hard time getting past that.
Majoras Mask is such a good example. I LOVE zelda games, sometimes I am too dumb to complete the dungeons without a guide, so I dont know. I cant play Majoras Mask and everything is awesome about it, except the time schtik. I get too stressed and its not fun anymore
Same situation here.. I am a Zelda fanboy but Majoras Mask is a hard time for me to get into.. Finally tried it 3 months ago and I found myself playing and deleting the save file before getting to the first Dungeon 7 times now.. Gave up on it 2 weeks ago Might give it a try in the future
@@thenintendogamer1542 yeah that might be a good idea.. It's sad because even thou I restarted it 7 times I still had a lot of fun!! But the time thing really made me anxious
I used to always hate mustard and made sure I got no mustard on my burgers. Then I made myself kind of like it as I started putting it on my hotdogs and with my corndogs along with ketchup. Though I don't love it like I do ketchup. I'll put it on my hotdogs and corndogs. And I'm okay with it being on my regular McDonald's burgers. Though I nearly always have them leave the onions off.
You now man I love your content. Can't wait for the Tuesday and Friday uploads. For me there are a couple games that I felt pressure into playing and ended up loving them Retro gotta be Super Mario RPG. Wasn't much if an RPG guy prior but I loved the game and was able to go back and get into the Final Fantasy series, Chrono Trigger and Earthbound. Recently it has been hands down horizon zero dawn. Tried it but didn't care for the long tutorial. Then I gave it a second chance and it really hooked me.
Nice video! I totally agree with your opinion on that, and it took me some time to get there I have to admit. I've started playing retro games to expand my knowledge as a game designer, so I've made lists of "must have" games for each console. My goal was to play them all to get all the nice things about them and reuse them in my own games. And I felt this kind of pressure to like these "must have". But in the end even from the point of view of playing retro games to get inspiration for creating new games (not only for fun), it's still a good idea to focus on games you like, it will make your new games even more personal and unique. The same way your collection is more personal and unique if there are only the games you really love in there. Thanks for your work and your way of making me think a lot at each video!
For me the most pressure comes when I accumulate over 400 games digitally, play dang near 24 7 for a couple years through a pandemic and then realize: how am ever going to get to all of these games? Then I get a Switch for my bday plus a bunch of games.
I feel I've pressured myself into playing A Link to the Past by buying a copy some years back, but now I play all my snes games on an sd2snes. Since I'm a PAL 50hz gamer i prefer playing on the sd2snes since I can play NTSC 60hz games. So my collection is just for show now. I love it, but I still feel kinda bad knowing I won't play on them, but I also know I'll regret selling them. Dig the term midlog btw :)
I was introduced to Super Smash Bros by my friends. The thing I hated is that I'm bad at fighting games. So all my friends like to kill me off quick. Playing it with my friends I spam side B. Playing with my siblings I have more fun.
i have an obscure one.. Ys books I and II for the turbografix CD.. i beat book I but i never completed book II.. for those who dont know its like an old rpg but! with cd sound, i know it wont sound impressive today but hearing crystal clear electric guitars and voices when everyone else is playing mario 3 you can see the difference.. anyway, im sure all of us have a game like that.. it just sticks in the back of your mind..
Book II is so good tho. Its even better than Book I. If you enjoyed Book I at all, you have to try Book II. Then III, IV, V (ok, not that one), VI, etc ..
@@schweatty you are right, besides.. id like to see my old friend Dark Fact again, then off to book II, i should play it again, id probably beat it.. worth a shot right?
It isn't that great of a game. Your good lol. Too much nowadays to bother with. I traded it for House of the Dead on Saturn a couple years ago and even then I could have cared less about it.
@@madbart214yomother7 I thought that it was a really good game. It's just that there's too many people building it up to be one of the greatest snes games made. I went into it expecting a huge, mind blowing ending, and ended up feeling let down. Not because it was bad, just too much hype.
@@keenansnitchuk5900 I can agree with that. It was very hyped up for me as well and maybe that's why I had a sour taste in my mouth. I spent at the time 180 bucks on it and it was not gamebreaking like it was so highly touted. I feel like there are other games at the same time earthbound came out that are just better games and for me, cheaper to have even all these years later.
Finally got a copy of Turtles in Time for SNES. I've picked it up a few times but I am not particularly in love with it. It was on the expensive side though.
Alien soldier, because it has technically all I want from a game, and it seems fiiiiine, but don't get hooked up to play it enough to finish it even after years.
It’s one of those games that I put down a long time ago, and then a little later I picked it back up and got addicted. You never know. That’s how I feel about a lot of games that I didn’t play as a kid. Once in a while I find a game that makes me want to play all the way through. No need to keep going if something ain’t tickling your fancy
A retro game I feel pressured to like is Mortal Combat and other arcade fighters. I feel pressured to play Metroid. Despite owning many Nintendo systems over the years, I've never played through a Metroid game.
Darn Retro Bird, you stole my answer! I was playing Chrono Trigger for the first time, not sure how far in I was but many hours and several time travels later and I just wasn't able to play for a few days and kind of lost track of what I was doing. I do think it was a fun game and I'm sure I'll get back to it and maybe next time I'll get all the way through.
The only pressure I feel is from the backlog. I prefer to complete a game prior to moving onto the next one. I've thoroughly enjoyed many first time played N64 games over the past few years, but I fear there are some that I may never get around to in my collection.... What a terrible possibility.
prolly the gen 4/5 Pokemon games for me, dp is getting a remake soon and I've seen many ppl recently rave about how good gen 5 is, I just haven't gone around to playing it I mean
@@RetroBirdGaming there was one. In Black and White, you had to beat the game, transfer over a key to unlock “ challenge mode” it was dumb you couldnt pick it from the start and is very obscure as a result
so cool to see you grow at this rate :D I love youre videos Ive been watching since their was less than 1k and I always love it as much ! keep up the great work ! a game for me I almost feel pressured to like is super metroid, Its hard for me to like it cause of the clunky controls for the damm wall jumps xD
i am an N64 Collector, and i am feeling pressure to play Paper Mario, but i hate those round based battles, but i think i will play it one day 😅😅 though i love Pokemon Blue and Red as a kid, i cant play these kind of games anymore...
dang dude I've always thought of myself as a retro gamer but I've never even HEARD of being officially certified, ty for keeping me humble. Chrono Trigger is that game for me too, it's such an iconic combination of so many of my favorite things but I just can't seem to make the time for it lol
We returned the Game Cube because I hated Mario Sunshine so much. This was when Nintendo and Sony had some kind of promotion where if you bought their system and didn't like it, you could return it for a full refund. I remember even ads saying for you to buy both systems, and then return the one you don't want. Though I do have a Game Cube now via the original Wii.
I've found that Smash Bros doesn't click with everyone. Not just people who prefer more traditional 2D fighting games either. And RPGs, yeah, they're super polarizing.
Chrono Trigger for me as well, my friend has been trying to get me to play it for 15 years as it's his favorite game and now a gaming group I'm in did a challenge to play it all together, lol well see, I've actually got into RPGs more recently. Thanks for the vid
It’s no pressure I like them all, but;, I don’t like Pokémon, I don’t like Smash, I was pressured to play Soul Caliber on SEGA I Dreamcast , Soul Caliber became my favorite game 🎮 on SEGA Dreamcast.
Same here with Pokémon and smash. Except it seems to be “acceptable” by most to just disregard Pokémon games. But if I tell someone into retro games that I have zero interest in playing Chrono Trigger for example, they will look at me sideways. 🤷🏻♂️
I think there's plenty of people who don't like Pokemon. I actually don't know where I fall on that. I loved Pokemon Red back in the day, but haven't played any of the games since. So, where does that put me?
final fantasy 7, never could get into turn based games but some claim that to be one of the greatest games of all time. I've bought it on ps1, vita and pc but could never bring myself to actually sit down and play it
Earthbound! I am very picky when it comes to RPGs and when I was young it didn't appeal to me because it was so different than others. Now that I'm older I decided to give it a try because it's so different. It's not without it's flaws, but what it offered was well worth the dozens of hours to play through it.
Phantasy Star. I have tried to pick it up and start several times, but that ancient 3-D dungeon crawl 1st person view always made me feel like I needed to map things out with graphing paper
I feel I did this more in the 90s when I would buy a game judging it by it's cover. In the first 5 minutes I would know I do not like this game. I'd give it a shot again & again because I bought it with my hard earned money. Now I don't even bother to do that or open & games I got as a gift as well. Now I can just watch someone play it first & if I know I don't like it then I bring it to our Gamers Paradise Retro Store for credit. With you to the tube all my games are home run hits or at least a 1st base hit & that's good enough to stay on my lawn!
Good video. This is called Gate-keeping. Gamers are prone to this phenomena and yeah, it can be annoying. On to the meat of the video: I am glad that you showed some gameplay of Earthbound. I had it back in the when it came out and loved it. I do not think I could get through it now though. It is too long with a simple gameplay loop that would not keep my attention today. Also, your point of liking a gift was spot on. When I was young I was given Renegade for the NES as a gift. I liked it and even beat it. However, it was not a good game. Boring and repetitive. Chrono Trigger is pretty short game by SNES RPG standards so that should go smoothly for you. I want to get back to Super C. I picked up the Contra Anniversary Collection recently on steam and want to beat that one. I never had it back in the day but I did play Contra (NES) to the point I could beat it without the Konami code.
Definitely been feeling pressured to play thru O.G. Zelda & Zelda 2. My first Zelda was Ocarina of time and I've played/beat Link to the past as well, but never the first two games but have definitely been feeling the pressure lately 😬😬
I have felt pressure not only to like games, but to have them in my collection. As if someone is going to walk off the street into my home, “oh wow at least you have that one, I’m impressed.” I’m learning to collect what I like. Consequently my collection is shrinking. Bioshock series. I dislike most all horror genre stuff, still bought the collection cause of the hype. Bayonetta, got all three and have only seen one title screen. Chrono Trigger here too.
Dude, awesome video. This FOMO feeling you're describing here has been the bane of my gaming existence for the last several years. I find myself spending much more time researching games, watching reviews and buying instead of actually playing. And when I DO play, it's something that's highly regarded but I don't even like, which leads me to feeling guilty and losing the will to game. Lately I've been trying to approach the issue differently: I'll try a game, and if I don't feel a connections, I just return it to the shelf and pick up something else. I can always return to it if I want to, it's not going anywhere. After a few games like that I'll find something I like that actually is fun and makes me glad I tried it out. It's a process. Funny you mentioned Rayman as something from your backlog: It's my favorite game of all time, but most of people's criticisms of it are valid (difficulty, lives system, checkpoints). It's special to ME, and that's what counts. Same with you and Rocket Knight Adventures, which I find to be pretty but uninteresting (don't kill me). Thanks for this video, it's good to know I'm not the only one with this issue weighing down on me.
My copy of Xenoblade Chronicles is still waiting to be played... Tho I'm very close to reach the end of Megaman X Command Mission so I will start Xenoblade very soon :)
I have a classics category pinned to my home screen on my Xbox one. I have games that span the history going back to things like Midway Arcade Treasures that have games as early as 1979 or early 80s. Also Dig Dug, the Double Dragon Trilogy, Shenmue 1 and 2. So I can't say that I feel pressure more but I am constantly reminiscent of my mother as kid always being like "if you get that game you're only going to play it once and then not again." So I have that residual sense of guilted responsibility to play all my games....which is impossible at times.
I pressured myself to build up a Zelda Collection, because everyone loves Zelda. I've played and enjoyed zelda games, but have yet to complete or beat one.
They're typically long games, and require a certain type of patience. I've actually found they're best played while not playing much else at the same time.
I used to say I long the Zelda series but now there’s more games in the series that are bad or just repeats than there are good ones. Link to the past is my favorite game ever but honestly the series kinda goes downhill mid 2000s for me and breath of the wild isn’t a Zelda game to me what so ever. I can also understand people not loving the series for even its good games as they’ve been overhyped by the diehards.
I felt pressured into playing the metroid series. After giving super metroid a try, I enjoyed it. Its a type of game I have to space out and play over time but I enjoy it.
Lol. I'm a retro gamer who only likes a few platformers...the question immediately is 'well what do you like then, WTF?' I like Romance of the Three Kingdoms, Nobunaga, Gemfire, Genghis Khan...then RC Pro Am, Rad Racer, F-Zero...then Mario 2...Defender of the Crown, Tetris, Dr. Mario...you can miss me with all the Castle Metroids and Super Mario Kirbys.
When you posed the question I was thinking Chrono Trigger. And then you said it! I have a copy for the DS but I also have a pretty insane midlog so it’s prolly gonna be awhile before I finally get to it.
Just bought Ocarina of Time 3D out of pressure cause according to a lot of people "you can't be a Zelda fan and not play Ocarina of time" but I'm pretty sure I will love it
Just like in your own situation, Chronotrigger is the game I'm pressured to play by myself. I did the same ting as you, played through half of the game and somehow lost the save for some reason I can't recall. Then we have Earthbound wich I feel both pressed to get, play and like! I'm sure I will do all three of those. A similar situation surrounds Terranigma... Well there's my "confession". Great video and great content in this channel! Thanks! 🔥❤🔥
You could do the flipside to this. Games you like that others don't. Not very retro but I like golden axe beast rider. Yes it doesn't play like the original but it is obviously part of the same series and ticks enough of my nostalgia boxes to get me reminiscent of the good ol' days while giving me a new challenge. And it's pretty short in comparison to some of the other 200 hour titles that came out around the same time.
Final fantasy vi. Just because I've played some of the earlier games in the series, and some of the later ones. For some reason, everyone seems to agree that ff6 is the defining entry in the series, and yet whenever I attempt it, I only get a few hours in before abandoning it out of mere disinterest.
Pressure to play any RPG/JRPG. I used to play Pathfinder and D and D and everyone tells me to play Final Fantasy 7 or Earthbound. I try but then I go back to playing Contra for the bizzilionth time.
Excellent points here, as per usual. To one of your points, my second favorite genre is good old 2D Action Platforming. Sonic for me is something different. I enjoy the 2D Sonic games, but there is no precision platforming on offer. The object is speed. To your main point, I don't feel pressure to play games retro or otherwise. I know what I enjoy most and usually those games are arcade derivatives and in the modern day decidedly non "Triple A". Super Smash Bros. however, is a series many people around me rave about. I'm okay with the fact that the series does little for me.
I'm being pressured to play Earthbound but I know the commitment that comes with it. It is intimidating. Also, never was a big fan of Sonic games. I know... I know...
Clear answer is the Ogre Battle series, e.g. March of the Black Queen (SNES). It has a small, fanatic cult following who praise it as the original masterpieces by Matsuno-Sakimoto-Yoshida, who later made the more widely known FF Tactics and FF12. As a huge fan of those 3 creative minds, I feel like I'd better love those Ogre Battle games if I know what's good for me. =D But they're quite rare and expensive..
On saturn ( I am a specialist about this console) I don’t like Daytona and that is my feelings. There is always someone who hate a game for some reason. I like driving games so that isn’t the reason I don’t like Daytona ( I love Sega rally). Again a fantastic video 👍
For me, OG Zelda. There was such a Zelda hype at the time. However, I was perfectly satisfied playing Double Dragon 2, Ice Hockey and Kid Icarus. Never got to play Zelda more than perhaps for 10 minutes. I thought it was way too complex, so I guess I never gave it a real chance. Maybe that will change some day in the future I will... maybe.
I have the worlds niggest midlog. I literally have the FIRST call of duty on my hard drive fully installed since it was new through all my windows upgrades I never lost it and it still works and my save file is still about halfway through!
I’d say I feel pressure to play Earthbound because I liked Undertale so much. And hey! I think I got past the part with the meteor. Which is, like, the very beginning haha
For me this game is Final Fantasy '3' on the SNES. Had it as a kid, thought it was gorgeous and loved everything about the sound and spritework...except that I didn't have the attention span for a huge RPG like that. I feel like I want to say it's my favorite game ever but I've never beaten it. One day.
You gotta finish Chrono Trigger my guy! It's so good. I enjoy the term "midlog" too and I'm gonna use it. Considering the fact that I did go over all the games I gotta play and went over which ones I've started and am in the middle of, even if on a technicality, I think the term justifies itself pretty well.
Nice! It's such a great game. Once you finish it though, then you gotta replay it. Get those different endings. That's what I gotta do. Replay it and find all the stuff hidden in there. Very well designed game that you can replay it so easily since it's a different experience.
Good video. My game of choice for feeling pressured to like would be the original Sonic games. The games encourage speed, but don't give you the tools to do it well. The screen is far too zoomed in to see any incoming obstacles when you're going fast, so it becomes a game of going slow, or learning the levels well so you can know what obstacles are coming. I think they knew this was a problem because of the ring mechanic; not being able to die when you have at least 1 ring. The game would be much better if they had just zoomed it out more and maybe had the screen scroll when Sonic is at 30-40% of the way on the screen instead of half-way, but big sprites were all the rage back then.
I recently bought fallout on steam and was really struggling with the controls. I'm not sure if I want to go back to it. Even though I know I definitely haven't given it a fair chance.
Earthbound is game im still trying to get into. I dont hate it by any means. But its my uncle and Brothers favorite game. Im struggling to enjoy it as much as they do.
I dont think Its an issue of being forced to like them, I think its that you are forced to RESPECT them. Most games made with love and quality deserve respect, but respect is earned and while these games have garnered respect from others it may not be respected by you the individual.
I'd have to say that Majora's Mask is the game I get pressured to play the most. I loved Ocarina of Time, but somehow I missed out on Majora's Mask when it was released. I sat down to try to play it a few years back, and I just could not get into it at all. My friends consistently tell me to keep at it, that it's one of the best games of all time, but I think it has a certain disconnect from other Zelda games that causes me to not be able to get into it at all. Side note, in reference to your comment about liking the games you get as gifts (forcing yourself to like it), that happened with me and Burger Time on the NES. I praised the game about how great it was and deep down inside didn't like it at all. When I saw the Switch version, I got hit with nostalgia and had to be honest with myself that I didn't actually like the game. I merely forced myself to like it because it was a Christmas present and one of the few games I had.
I know what you mean. Majora's Mask is very different from other Zelda games. It gets points for originality, but when I'm craving a "Zelda Game" it's not the first one I think of. I have to be specifically in the mood for Majora's Mask.
That reminds me... I gave Earthbound two shots in the past, couldn't bear to play it. Also dropped Zelda OoT after an hour or so when I was younger. I also do not care for Hollow Knight like others do. In any case, as I generally say, I would rather try out a game that's interesting over a game that's good. I've played good games that I had little interest in replaying, and interesting games that always stays with me in my mind palace.
I had the dame Experience w/ Mustard, except that it was on a Hotdog because there was No ketchup and i didn't want to eat it Plain. Now i LOVE mustard.😅

I cannot believe this channel hasn't blown up yet, Retro Bird is gold.

By definition, he's not tslking about retro things at all.. its vintage or classic stuff
Midlog?? Wow, this has to go viral, let's make it an official term... Great vid, I really wanted this topic to win the poll

For me it’s all the heavy hitter RPGs. I just can’t get into them.
Yeah, you and many others.
@@RetroBirdGaming me included! slower games with reading just aren't my thing any more/ rn anyway ha
Totally agree. Not least of which is the time commitment needed for some of them.
Majoras Mask is such a good example. I LOVE zelda games, sometimes I am too dumb to complete the dungeons without a guide, so I dont know.
I cant play Majoras Mask and everything is awesome about it, except the time schtik. I get too stressed and its not fun anymore
Timers can really stress people out. I understand it.
Same situation here.. I am a Zelda fanboy but Majoras Mask is a hard time for me to get into.. Finally tried it 3 months ago and I found myself playing and deleting the save file before getting to the first Dungeon 7 times now.. Gave up on it 2 weeks ago
Might give it a try in the future
@@bareq99 same here. Might just follow a guide 1 by 1 so I can play it to a degree at least
@@thenintendogamer1542 yeah that might be a good idea..
It's sad because even thou I restarted it 7 times I still had a lot of fun!! But the time thing really made me anxious
I can't stand being timed in a game. Ruins the fun for me.
there's so many games that I wish I could turn back time just to play when I was a kid!
Saturn 3D controller playing street fighter 2 we in here!
Men wtf, why this YT channel isn't popular?
Hahah. It's been growing been lately! It was much smaller not that long ago.
You’re channel is amazing man, love it, keep doing what you’re doing!
Glad you enjoy it!
Just found the channel. Great stuff. Really liked the Rocket Knight plug, a great game. Thanks for the hard work on this video, it shows.
Thank you! Super Mario RPG made me like RPGs more after I had played it too.
Thanks for your work and your way of making me think a lot at each video!
most pressure comes when i spend a lot of money on a game
Big time!
^^^ this for me too
For me the most pressure comes when I accumulate over 400 games digitally, play dang near 24 7 for a couple years through a pandemic and then realize: how am ever going to get to all of these games? Then I get a Switch for my bday plus a bunch of games.
But what pressured you to spend a lot of money on a game? Were you pressured to own the game, now you also feel pressure to like it?
@@tooturtletastic That's not pressure, it's an embarrassment of riches. lol
Always respect you giving Sega their fair representation
I love Sega! Glad you notice that I do that :)
I’m gonna use the term midlog so much now
I feel I've pressured myself into playing A Link to the Past by buying a copy some years back, but now I play all my snes games on an sd2snes.
Always wondered if pal gamers liked to emulate to get a better refresh rate
Excellent video! I look forward to watching more of your videos
I was introduced to Super Smash Bros by my friends. The thing I hated is that I'm bad at fighting games. So all my friends like to kill me off quick. Playing it with my friends I spam side B. Playing with my siblings I have more fun.
Playing a competitive game should always be played by yourself first. That's what I've found. Unless you play it with somebody super nice.
i have an obscure one..
I could see any fan of the Turbo feeling pressure to like that game.
You must be very proud to have EarthBound in your collection! I mean, I would be too if I had it.
Keep up the great work man. Each day youre getting better 👍
Appreciate it!
A few others have said it as well!
7:28 I recently bought that one. Havnt played it, nor have I heard any reviews, but ive seen a gameplay clip or two and it looks cool.
You're good at what you do. Keep it up, Retro Bird!
Thanks, will do!
+1
They do nothing for me either.
@@remy333 theyre just solid pokemon games for me. They feel like an upgraded Ruby, Sapphire. And Emerald
GEN 5 is so good tbh
I'd really like a super challenging Pokemon game. Even if there was just harder difficulty option you could select from the beginning.
@@RetroBirdGaming there was one. In Black and White, you had to beat the game, transfer over a key to unlock “ challenge mode” it was dumb you couldnt pick it from the start and is very obscure as a result
SAME with Chrono Trigger. I love the music, and the story, but got midlogged on it and haven't picked it back up in YEARS
so cool to see you grow at this rate :D I love youre videos Ive been watching since their was less than 1k and I always love it as much ! keep up the great work !
a game for me I almost feel pressured to like is super metroid, Its hard for me to like it cause of the clunky controls for the damm wall jumps xD
Thank you! The Wall Jumps are infuriating until you learn them. Then it seems easy as butter for some reason. It's very strange.
i am an N64 Collector, and i am feeling pressure to play Paper Mario, but i hate those round based battles, but i think i will play it one day 😅😅
though i love Pokemon Blue and Red as a kid, i cant play these kind of games anymore...
dang dude I've always thought of myself as a retro gamer but I've never even HEARD of being officially certified, ty for keeping me humble.
Short answer for me: every RPG ever made and smash bros
Smash bro’s blows
I've found that Smash Bros doesn't click with everyone. Not just people who prefer more traditional 2D fighting games either. And RPGs, yeah, they're super polarizing.
Chrono Trigger for me as well, my friend has been trying to get me to play it for 15 years as it's his favorite game and now a gaming group I'm in did a challenge to play it all together, lol well see, I've actually got into RPGs more recently. Thanks for the vid
Recent fan, love yer stuff, why not more subscribers. Also I dig hose creep faces...lol
It’s no pressure I like them all, but;, I don’t like Pokémon, I don’t like Smash,
I was pressured to play Soul Caliber on SEGA I Dreamcast , Soul Caliber became my favorite game 🎮 on SEGA Dreamcast.
Same here with Pokémon and smash. Except it seems to be “acceptable” by most to just disregard Pokémon games. But if I tell someone into retro games that I have zero interest in playing Chrono Trigger for example, they will look at me sideways. 🤷🏻♂️
Stares at @@megamob5834 sideways...

I think there's plenty of people who don't like Pokemon. I actually don't know where I fall on that. I loved Pokemon Red back in the day, but haven't played any of the games since. So, where does that put me?

@@RetroBirdGaming I enjoyed the GB Pokémon games when I was younger, but can not get into anything Pokémon these days
final fantasy 7, never could get into turn based games but some claim that to be one of the greatest games of all time. I've bought it on ps1, vita and pc but could never bring myself to actually sit down and play it
You remind me of my nephew he has a Retro video game channel as well. He’s called Anton Retro. Great channel Retro bird
Good question: I guess for me it is the famous Japanese RPGs like Final Fantasy, Dragon Warrior, etc. I suspect this will be a common answer.
It's been a very popular answer! Haha.
I can relate with Chrono Trigger... Purchased the game on day one and still playing it to yet finish it... Just too many games!!!
I love the N64, but can't get into Mario Kart 64. Reasons: Diddy Kong Racing, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.
Earthbound! I am very picky when it comes to RPGs and when I was young it didn't appeal to me because it was so different than others. Now that I'm older I decided to give it a try because it's so different. It's not without it's flaws, but what it offered was well worth the dozens of hours to play through it.
MIDLOG!
That's my whole thing.
I don't have a backlog, it's entirely a midlog XD
Tysm for the new term! Anxiety (slightly) relieved!
As if someone is going to walk off the street into my home, “oh wow at least you have that one, I’m impressed.”
I’m learning to collect what I like. Consequently my collection is shrinking.
Bioshock series. I dislike most all horror genre stuff, still bought the collection cause of the hype. Bayonetta, got all three and have only seen one title screen. Chrono Trigger here too.
Forced myself to play paper mario 64, its one of my favorites now!!
The mines in Metroid prime 😭. Nice video. This channel is a real gem
Much appreciated!
I pressured myself to build up a Zelda Collection, because everyone loves Zelda. I've played and enjoyed zelda games, but have yet to complete or beat one.
Kinda the same here. I love the world and characters in Zelda, but have never finished any of them, and use guides way too often when I do play them.
Arg ... same.
They're typically long games, and require a certain type of patience. I've actually found they're best played while not playing much else at the same time.
@@RetroBirdGaming That's probably right. Might finish a couple of games in my midlog, then come back to Zelda once I've completed them.
Yeah, I think it's a common game people feel pressure to like. A bunch of others have said this too.
Just bought Ocarina of Time 3D out of pressure cause according to a lot of people "you can't be a Zelda fan and not play Ocarina of time" but I'm pretty sure I will love it
It would work out well if you do. We'll see!
The 3D version is the way to go. There are some aspects of the original that can be off putting to new players (water temple, I’m looking at you)
Just like in your own situation, Chronotrigger is the game I'm pressured to play by myself.
Thanks!

Contra is like retro gaming comfort food for me. I can always go back to it. 1, 2, 3, or Hard Corps
I know... I know...
Mortal Kombat or Street Fighter are such games i feel like I should like but I suck at them a lot.
Hahah way to go!
This being an older video, I actually have now and loved it!
Bucket List Games: All of em!
I recently bought fallout on steam and was really struggling with the controls. I'm not sure if I want to go back to it. Even though I know I definitely haven't given it a fair chance.
It can be hard to decide early on with a game like that.
That's a fair way of looking at it.
All JRPGs. Lore and artwork is so fascinating but, gameplay seems so grind-y
Pressure to like games based on IPs you really like. I've had to strain myself finding redeeming qualities in a lot of the Simpsons games of yore
So you want me to put mustard on bread? Okay I’ll give it a try.
I had the dame Experience w/ Mustard, except that it was on a Hotdog because there was No ketchup and i didn't want to eat it Plain. Now i LOVE mustard.😅
Midlog is definitely a thing I will use from now on
