    Yo dude,
    Between this and your last video you've had a major impact on my life.
    I am a year and four months sober from pretty intense alcohol abuse. I was considering giving drinking a shot again, saying "yeah I can handle it now for sure." I was leaning towards this decision to regress largely because I was bored, without motivation in any direction...
    Then, I stumbled upon one of your videos -- I can't even remember how I came across it. I watched 3 or 4 of em, the last one being about your journey from Crohn's disease to ultrarunning. That shit hit me like a rock. The next day, I got out and went for a run, which was something that I absolutely hated for most of my life because I was almost always hungover and craving a beer.
    On this first run after watching your vids, I felt fantastic. After that, I just kept going every single day (well, with a few rest days when my body tells me to calm it down). I am hooked, and I am further from taking a sip of alcohol than I have been in months. I can't tell you how much you have inspired me and jolted me in the right direction. Keep doing what you are doing, man. I'll keep running -- it's my new addiction.
    Cheers!

    Great video. The big debate on footstrike is intense. I changed from heel strike to forefoot with vffs and then one day I had shin splints and was devastated. Took a look at my form and realized I was overstriding. Everyone needs to record themselves running to look at their form.

    After recovering from those, meantime facing weight gain issues, I had a difficulty breathing when physically exerting my breath. All the pains got away except for the breath issue. I hope is not Asthma,only some temporary shit!

      @DanWhitehead  3 роки тому +1

      Thats a bummer! unfortunately thats often the way it goes one thing leads to another. For me I was very weak when I started running and I had a lot of different what Id describe as nerve pains. Id recover from one and then get another likely because I was compensating I think. With patience and time it will improve stick at it!

      Weight gain is the real shit though, It messes with you head especially if you have an obesity background. For all these small injuries I had in 2020 greedy training decisions are to blame , greed for fear of my weight gain.

    I hadn't run much over the last couple of months but hit the trails today. The first 2k was ok but then the lack of fitness hit me hard. But, by about 10k i had found my old groove, and despite there not being much fuel in the tank i found my legs were hitting the ground nicely and when i had to stop to catch my breath my legs just wanted to keep going (without my lungs).
    When it all comes together running is a beautiful beast.

    I know I should pay a bit more attention to my form, especially when I see the outsole more worn out by the heel area in my shoes. Do you think that beside this, doing gait analysis would be good too? I considered in the past to get an assesment. So far the injuries have respected me, but I also should do a bit more of strength work and propioception, especially while hitting the trails.

    Great video and I love the channel. The past 2 weeks I have tried to increase my cadence and shorten my stride. Since, increasing I have noticed a huge difference in how I feel after runs. Def a game changer!

    I run 50 mile Ultra trail races, and would call my self a back of the packer. I find my self with and extra 6-8 weeks of training that will not fall in to an actual training plan. Would I be better of spending this time on speed or climbing vert?

      Hey mate, im not sure exactly what you mean but im thinking your saying your doing 6 to 8 weeks of training prior to starting a training plan ? you should be just doing base mileage in that time I wouldn't recommend any speed work or tempo running. Tempo running and hill reps should be incorporated into the training cycle when you start it. I work off 8 to 12 weeks training cycle leading up to a race and I find that plenty that includes tapering. Anything more then that im feeling tired at the start line. Honestly I think if your putting in the training consistently making improvement with ultra running just comes with time and experience every race you figure out what you can sustain, how to fuel, just what works for you. Everyone is different.
