I am from Uruguay. In May 2017 we arrived at SFO in a Copa Airlines B737-800 fully booked. Weather was sunny but windy and the pilot did a good job on landing. When disembarking I met...her! Capt Angélica Quintero, smiling after a 7h 30m non-stop flight from Panamá.

@@FreeDemocracy-2025 Alaska Airlines is the only airline I know of that is still flying a 737-900NG without winglets! I keep wondering when they're going to retire it! 🤣

@allee2445 Those original 900s have wings that for some reason can't have winglets added...something about their structure/design is different than later 737s...I don't know the exact details....
I did two go arounds at Oakland in a huge windstorm many years ago...also on an Alaska flight from Seattle. Landing in OAK and SFO can be hair-raising, because just before landing it looks like you're gonna get dunked in the drink!

@brileri No, it was a 737...an original 737-900 from 2001 with wings that could not have winglets added to them. Alaska Airlines has two of them. But they are due to be retired this year or next....

Wrong. The pilot made a decision; do I land or do I go around. He decided to go around so he "went around" rather than land at the decision point. Sorry, that's what happened. Been there done that.

Good explanation. Non aviation geeks might not know. For surther geek info, the go around altitude and course is already set in the FMC (flight management computer), along with thurst, so they push the button on the control yoke to instantly do it.

If the TO/GA button is pushed on the throttle controls, the FMC will then set the autopilot up for the Missed Approach fixes, which are automatically entered when an appropriate STAR/RNAV approach is selected when planning the flight. These fixes will guide the aircraft away from the airport and set the altitude as defined in the charts, and vectors will be coordinated with local ATC.
@@kadinzaofelune Yeah but at big airports almost nobody uses the missed approaches, we have set headings and altitudes per ARTCC SOP that basically align with vector departures to minimise flow disruptions.

It’s 7 days now. Used to be 30. I don’t save audio on my end it’s all on the LiveATC server side. Nice video!

A 737 would have winglets on the wingtips. I would guess the plane was an older 757 that didn't have the winglets.
