Step 4 also has a chance of reformation and start the cycle again (see the Eastern Roman Empire). In the Ottoman's case, its stagnation lasted longer than most thanks to a strong bureaucracy and constant reformation.

@Kişisel Gelişim after all u took them from Christians but later this group became it's own factor and was enough worthy and strong and respected so it could do this and that without the Sultans approval. I've read a book on a Bulgarian writer called Tokoraz Isto (its from Bulgarian so it would mean the one who tells history). Its really interesting. About two brothers where 1 becomes a high level commander as a Jenesarrie and then the other becomes a Voevoda (Rebel). The first 1 considered the Messiah or Islamic verison and second 1 being top fighter in the Empire. Interesting. I hope some day the book gets translated.
@Kişisel Gelişim Didn't Sipahis fight against the janissaries and eventually took part in dismantling them then they gave up their position and disbanded after the sultan asked them as part of the late ottoman army reforms
they were loyal as fuck! they are hardly mentioned the only history youtuber I've seen mention them is Kings and Generals 2 types of Sipahis are mentioned by him, the Kapikulu Sipahi and the Timarli Sipahis

Turkish peoples couldn't be Jannissaries.If anyone want to Janissaries in Ottoman he shouldn't have been Turkish.Janissaries when they child they were christians.
That was in the early stages of the ottoman empire. But that changed drastically in the later periods when turks were also allowed to join. You can see that their numbers grew a lot by doing that.

There were Turkish janissaries too. After the 16th century, the devshirme system changed, and Muslim born kids could become a janissary.

@@arishemghoul9571 jannisarries were innovative for the history of warfare during the foundation and rising eras of the empire, they were elite soldiers and personal guards of the emperor himself. They were less in number and consist of converted christian children who were taken as slaves. As time goes by they became too powerful, traditionalist rather than innovative, disobedient, and in larger numbers. They were not personal guards anymore they became main combatants in the battlefield but they have lost the things that made them elite unit. II.Ahmet wanted to form a modern army using contemporary weapons and tactics instead of jannisarries' traditional ones. He wanted this army to be like 18.century European armys which are disciplined, fighting in lines, commanded by graduates of cadet schools instead of statemen and uses firearms and bayonets instead of swords and arrows.

Exactly! And endless defeats to Russia and the massacre of Bulkan people and Armenians. That's pretty much how people see the Ottoman Empire. I mean even this video is very very general and didn't cover a lot of important factors in the stagnation period (like Kosem's rule, the corrupt Pashas and Janissaries and also the Koprulu era).
@Galacticos Galatias The Koprulu era is a period in Ottoman history from 1656 to 1683, in which three very powerful and capable Pashas from the Koprulu family were Grand Viziers. The first one, Mehmed Pasha Koprulu, then his son Fazil Ahmed Koprulu, then Mehmed's adopted son Kara Mustafa Pasha. During this time the empire regained its strength and reached a peak similar to that during Suleiman The Magnificent's time.

Yes, and no. During Murad IV's reign, the empire managed to temporarily stabilize itself and the army kind of reached the same discipline that was during Suleiman's rule. Unfortunately Murad can only do so much, and died just 8 years later at the age of 27. Had he lived for more he would have undoubtedly taken the empire to the complete height achieved during Suleiman's rule, but nevertheless, he suppressed all the revolts, stabilized the empire and retook Baghdad.
Unfortunately his successor, Ibrahim, was far more weaker than him, and I'll cut it short and just say he completely wasted all of Murad's effort and took the empire back to its status before Murad. Then, there were three years of chaos after removing Ibrahim and ultimately assassinating him from 1648 to 1651. During this time, the Janissaries, corrupt Pashas and Kosem ruled the empire and almost took it to the brink of collapse, and the empire almost went bankrupt as a result of the war with Venice. Kosem wanted to kill Ibrahim's 6 year old son (who is also her grandson) and replace him with another grandson whose mother is "more controllable". Ultimately, Mehmed's mother Sultana Turhan found out about the plot and ordered the assassination of Kosem. A bloodbath in Topkapi happened and the Ottoman Empire finally got rid of the cancerous Kosem who almost doomed the empire with her twisted plots and lust for power. Then, Turhan searched for a powerful figure to lead the empire and guide her son. That man was Mehmed Pasha Koprulu who became Grand Vizier in 1656. He was inspired by Murad IV and liked the way he dealt with the rebels, so naturally, Koprulu was pretty much as ruthless as Murad and managed to get rid of every corrupt man in the empire and executed all the rebels, as well as adding all the wealth of the corrupt Pashas to the empire's treasury, saving the empire from bankruptcy. Then he dealt with the Venetian war and broke the siege Venice imposed on the Dardanelles. Mehmed Koprulu died in 1661 leaving a strong empire behind him and was succeeded by his son Fazil Ahmed Pasha who was even better. Ahmed won a war against Austria in 1663 and captured new lands for the first time since Suleiman's time. He then captured the last fortress in Crete and ended the war defeating the Venetians in 1669. He also lead a campaign against Poland and annexed Podolia, the Cossack region as well as various parts of Ukraine. He was then succeeded in 1672 by his half-brother and close friend Kara Mustafa Pasha, who was as brilliant as him, but a bit cocky and arrogant. Nevertheless, the empire continued to threaten and annoy the European countries, and really achieved the strength it had during Suleiman's time. Kara managed to come to an agreement with Poland and Russia on how to divide the Cossack regions in Ukraine, and broke a war with Austria again and managed to defeat them and take Upper Hungary in the end of 1682(modern Slovakia). That was a massive blow for Austria but Kara wanted more, in 1683 he prepared for the siege of Vienna and lead the army without consulting the Sultan (yes, the Sultan didn't know his army was going to Vienna and had he knew he wouldn't have authorized it). And the rest as you know is history....

@@lifeneverends7068 The Seljuqs, Timurids, Khwarazmian and Ghaznavids were just one part of the Iranian history. The Safavid were Iranian, they called themself Iranians and saw their empire as Iran. They were culturally Iranian and saw themself as the next in line of the Sassanids. The Afsharids were Turks but they were Iranian Turks and saw their empire as an Iranian empire. A Turk which see his empire as Iran and himself as the ruler of Iran concludes that the dynasty was an Iranian dynasty. A Iranian Turk ruling Iran does not change the fact that he still is Iranian.
But like I said nearly no Iranian empire was in a significant way culturally Turkish yet there are multiple Turkic dynasties which became Persinized.

There are some missing parts. The Stagnation started after Suleiman's son Selim II's death. Selim's son Murad III was a weak guy and dependant to his mother's influence (It was the start of the sultanate of women). The one keeping empire strong was grandvizier Sokullu Mehmed Pasha. He fought against corrupted officers backed by Sultan's mother but after his assasination, corrupted officals took power. Bribery, corruption, unfair treatment of Timar system, unnecessary campaings on Safavids and lack of tecnological developments in military and foreign effects (New Continent, changing trade routes) did a huge impact. Start of long Habsburg-Ottoman war was beggining of trouble. After Murad III's death, his son Mehmed III's reign was mostly chaotic. Him killing his 19 brother was already a bad start and long war took its price, civil uprisings caused big problems and last impact was Safavid attack. Mehmed III was dependent on his mother too and because of his mother's influence and some military unrest he was a paranoid man. He executed his eldest heir Mahmud because of suspicion, after that incident he didn't live longer. His second eldest son Ahmed I throned after these events. He was the first child emperor, he didn't killed his mentally ill brother, because of not having a heir or his mother's influence. After he have sons he still spared him. Reason is not clear, it could be his love for his brother, his favorite consort's influuence or officers convinced him that his mentaly ill brother couldn't be a treat for his son. During his rule long Habsburg-Ottoman war ended. It was tecnically a victory but not a bright one. Ottoman mainly focused on uprisings and Safaids. Safaids were victorious and gained territories back they lost during Murad III era. Most important event was ending uprisings that caused too much civil unrest.
Why Every empires in history only good and rise by first 5 to 10 leaders and the rest start to begin corruption and put puppets as a leader that makes empires poweless

Ottomans fought against Holy Roman Empire, Russians, Commonwealth, Venice, and Pope at the same time after a failed siege, which caused a serious amount of military weakness. But still 16 years were required to defeat them. And this happened in 1683-1699 years which is in the stagnation period of Ottoman Empire. So in the Rule of Suleiman the Magnificent, Ottomans were almost unbeatable in a defensive war even if all of Europe would be involved in a coalition.
Because Ottomans are bigger than the other empires so obviously they have more resources and other European countries were also at war with each other, not just the Ottomans.

2.Osman had plans to disband the Janissaries and form a new army out of Turkish soldiers in Anatolia. He also planned to move the capital to Anatolia as well. Before he could go to Anatolia and muster a new army to end the Janissaries, they killed 2.Osman and installed 1.Mustafa also known as Mustafa the Mad (Deli Mustafa) due to his psychological problems.

There is a book written in the in medieval times about this subject by an erudite Moldavian Prince: it is called something like Incrementa adve decrementa aule Otomanice ( i.e. the Raise and fall of the Otoman Empire power, in Latin). The main reason for their fall was said to be the consequence of an inferior overall scientific progress and economic growth compared especially to their enemies in the west. Which led to an weaker Otoman military. The story of the demise of all Empires .

Anddd last but not least, Muhammad Ali Pasha who took control of the entire lands of Egypt during ottoman rule was also an Albanian. Enver Pasha, his mother yes his father is disputed he was either a Gagauz Turk or an Albanian. Sure for Mehmet Ali Pasha too but Ataturks father was from the village of Kodzazik in Macedonia. His father came to Salonica at the age of 7.

Kodzazik village is even today has only Turkish population. They were Turkmens that were placed there by the Ottomans from Aydin, Soke. His mother side too was from a very rooted Turkish family called Hacisofular, originally from Konya.

Possibly. He lived during the 30 years war. 1618-1648. During that time AFAIK Habsburg payed for peace.
Yes possibly easier near the end of his live when the 30 years war had destroyed Germany. But earlier like in 1623 he would have sent troops into a totally militarised country not weakened yet.
p.s. The Germans had set aside their internal wars in 1529 also.
Why i say he could have taken vienna was because he was young aggressive powerful and was lucky to be alive many of his family members were murdered in palace intrigues and growing up his mother ruled and the first thing he did was to remove his mother from power and the powerful Grand Vizier's and once done he solidified his control of the empire with new laws and crushed rebellions and then he was the first sultan in nearly 100 years to lead his army to victory reconquering iraq and parts of armenia and western iran his experienced generals failed initially but he didnt he distilled a presence on the battlefield he led from the front and was powerfully built(wielding a 60kg mace) fearless this drew respect from his soldiers including the unruly jannissaries all at a young age he had just concluded the peace with Saffavids and was turning his attention to Europe now his soldiers would not turn and flee with such a sultan leading them he put discipline not only in his soldiers but the entire empire Alchohal/drugs/coffee houses were all shut down by him and if anyone disobeyed they could be killed on the spot this was a sultan who wanted to shake up the empire and reinvigorate it sadly he died at just 26 i strongly believe he was the true last great ottoman sultan he needed more time he could have done more

Vienna was always at the edge of the strategic reach of the Timariot cavalryman from Anatolia whose service started in spring. Each mile West meant shorter time on the battlefield. But that is the lesser problem.
Vienna was always in Germany not only in the realm of the Habsburg dynasty with whom the Ottoman dynasty wared for Hungary and other territories for many centuries. The German estates did not pay for the Habsburg cause and their private wars with the Ottomans - unless German interests were affected. After that it would take some time before the German estates would have voted on war taxes.
But once the Turks had ridden through the border to Germany in an obscure river that did not even make the bellies of their horses wet - they had attacked Germany and the Germans. After that money and troops were allocated from the whole of the Holy Roman Empire of the east Franconian kings. And that stretched from Italy in the south until the North sea and the Baltic sea in the North and East. So eventually troops would arrive from Holland, Brandenburg ...
Most of the time France was the partner and ally of the Ottomans - so the Germans usually fought a two front war.
During Murad IV's reign Germany and Central Europe fought internal religious wars. Most notably the German 30 years war - 1618 - 1648. Between the Vienna attacks of 1529 and 1683 the Central Europeans developed their pike and shot tactics into a combined arms tactic that proved superior to Turkish numbers in the 1683-1699 war.
An attack by Murad IV would have stopped the 30 years war that had weakened Germany and the Habsburgs prior to the 1683-1699 war. He would have send troops into a highly militarised wasps nest that had already developed the combined arms tactics.
But AFAIK Murad IV would have been also in a two front war with the Iranian Safavids between 1623-1639.
After 1500 the economic power of the Ottoman empire shrunk in comparison with Europe. There was a plague so...

good video but I feel that it focuses way to much on military conquests/defeats and court intrigue to explain the general "stagnation" of the Empire. There was a huge economic and demographic shift occurring in the Middle East/Eastern Europe at this time as well as changes in administration of provinces. What was happening in Topkapi palace reflects this than the other way around. The sultans were more reactionary to problems they could not or did not care enough about to get a hold of, and in order to truly understand this period of transformation that needs to be explored.
But it is a 15 min video, can't expect that much in this time constraint

Exactly, like for example in the last decade of the 1600s when they recovered Belgrade and other lands in Serbia, they were actually preparing to retake Hungary, and the Holy League thought it was just a matter of time before they lose the territories they gained from 1683 onwards, however, the Grand Vizier died in a battle and suddenly all hopes were lost. So so unlucky.

Ahmed’s biggest unfortunate was her grandmother Safiye Sultans role in ottoman politics during the reign of Ahmed’s father Mehmed III. There were always corrupt pashas and aghas in ottoman divan but Safiye bring it to another level and because of that Ahmed took over a corrupt state pashas weren’t met the criteria because they earned their positions by bribing the old Valide sultan Safiye. Safiye also was very active in foreign politics she had close ties with Venice and she was a letter friend with Queen Elizabeth I.

After 16 th century we study more the reigns of importent sultans in history classes , for example we look more deeply to Osman the second ( the young Osman ) , Murad the fourth ( the counqueror of Baghdad ) , Mehmed the fourth ( mehmed the hunter ) . We start to learn the reforms of the Sultans that they bring more than the wars , the conflicts or the battles . As you see in 17 th century the Ottomans rather lose territory than gain so stabilization , reforms and the shifting objection from an offensive one to an defensive one . Every turk that has a little interest about Ottoman history , knows the first 10 Sultans very well but from the next 26 Sultans we only know 5 to 10 of them . Of course the last 20 - 40 years of the empire is more importent than anything cause its related with our new found republic . So after 16 th centry its more like how we ended up like this and what was the problems of empire and what has soften our shift from a monarchy to a democracy .

Than we look more carefully into greek , anatolian and mesopotamian civilizations . We a look little to the history of roman empire . Than in second semester we start with nomadic /turkic / turkish states empires such as : xiongnu , göktürks , uyghurs , karahanids , ghaznevids , seljuks ( crusades included) . In the second year its just ottoman empire and european history like peter the great , habsburgs , frederick the great , charles xii of sweden , 30 years war etc . . In third year we look into last stages of ottoman emipire . Constitutionalism in empire , reforms , babali coup d'etat , ideologies in empire such as islamism , ottomanism , nationalism , modernism . Than ww1 , war of independence . In the forth year the name of the class changes from history to Atatürks ideologies and revolution history . There we see Atatürk his life , his career as a officer , war of independence very closely , what Atatürk did after the republic was found until his dead , we korean war , ww2 and turkish neutrality etc. I cant remember all of them but in first two years you dont even hear the name of Atatürk . And in third year Atatürk is not that important . Only in last year its about Atatürk and i think its not even enough . We dont go nuts if someone calls atatürk a dictator by the way -it is a kind of true -but if you dont know the history of the early republic of turkey than please dont talk . There is a documentry about turkey from united states in 30 s i guess , its says there Atatürk a dictator so turkey may never have a dictator .
