From the Smash 2/Omega moveset, Snake retains a lot of his Brawl animations and moves, while his side Smash would include a melee attack with his missile launcher, and his down Smash would be a more traditional double kick like Ultimate counterpart.
His up B would put him in helpless state rather than being able to act out of it, but he'd be the only character on the roster with the ability to crawl.
His appearance would be based on Metal Gear Solid 1 and 2, as 2 would have just released on PlayStation 2.

I'm only just now realizing how perfect Snake would've been as an advertisement for The Twin Snakes.
For sure! However Twin Snakes came out in early 2004 after it's delay (originally Nov 2003) so I don't think it would have quite lined up.
@@davidvkimball melee made me later go try to find the games the characters were from and try their franchises out. I bought star fox command on the ds which was great because of melee for example.

@@LostSoulSilver I think just the default and MGS1 alt are good enough. The default one needs its design updated because it’s head is based off of Naked Snake. This is something that needs to be corrected. Also the other alt suggestions don’t fit with the moveset. They could each have their own unique moveset including Old Snake. In fact I’ve actually made movesets for all of them but I scrapped the MGS3 Big Boss because I felt it wouldn’t be necessary to have that version playable when MGSV Big Boss is around. My MGSV Big Boss is the most polished moveset.
My take for Snake’s alts: 3 MGS2 alts, 3 MGS1 alts and 2 misc alts
Default MGS2: The same, just with an updated face
2: All green (reference to MG, MG2 and Iroquois Pliskin
3: Colour scheme based on Old Snake
Default MGS1: Sneaking suit based on MGS1 with a clean-shaven face
2: Blue and orange (based on Frank Jaeger, topped off with a red headband)
3: All white (Genome Soldiers)
His last 2 alts would be a shirtless alt and a tuxedo alt
That’s one of the best Solid Snake models I’ve ever seen. I’m jealous.

I don't think Lucas would've been that much of a mind blower, EarthBound and most specifically Mother series was not that popular back then even in Japan.

Snake using the Nikita as a melee weapon is awesome
This is incredible! The only thing I would have changed is Snake's sprite at the very beginning, cause the sprite uses his design from mgs2 but the actual model is his design from mgs1. Other than that, amazing work. I'd love to live in a world where Kojima asked Sakurai just a little earlier.

I think some of his moves such as his up smash, recovery and one of his throws would be different moves altogether because at the time their source material hadn’t come out yet. Also David Hayter’s voice clips in Brawl and Ultimate were recorded in a time where his Snake voice had gotten really gruffly. When compared to MGS1 and MGS2 there’s a big difference. So I think it would have been more fitting to use voice samples from MGS1.

GOD....I feel like it's the summer of 2003 again and my cousins , sis, and I are playing Melee until like...4am...and in comes a new character, scaring us with the ominous purple background and alarms...it shows "Snake"..too young to know who he is, the only website we care about it Nick, Disney and Cartoon Network, so no online dojo to explain who he is...no Twitter to spoil us...just awe and wonder

Snake was going to be a third party character in melee unfortunately he was cut because of time development of course he show up in brawl in E3 2006 and returning In smash ultimate as well
That's actually not true. He wasn't ever planned for the game. Kojima just asked Sakurai about it during Melee's development.

Snake should have his Sons Of Liberty appearance with MGS1/Twin Snakes being an alt, with Big Shell as his stage like in DreamMix, and his tranquilizer instead of Nikita since MGS2 was releasing around the same time as Melee and that version of Snake being the most up to date then becoming his most iconic look/weapon at that time and even now. Don't get me wrong David, this is definitely an amazing mod. But with how Konami is they would have definitely used Melee to help promote MGS2, MGS1 was 3 years old and already successful.
P.S. I'm amazed that not only does this fit so well but without the disclaimer I would've thought this was a modded Melee.

That model is great, even though I didn't play the first MGS and started with MGS2, this design is what I picture the character as in my head, a slightly bulky dark outfit with no beard. In fact when they gave him a full beard in Ultimate, it made him too much like Big Boss. Ironically appropriate, since Snake is the first literal "clone" in smash.

Cool! If Snake was in Melee had Kojima asked Sakurai to put Snake in Smash earlier after Smash 64's release, my guess is that either Pac Man or Hitomi (Dead or Alive) will be another third-party character to join Brawl followed by Sonic. That would've been awesome! 😀

Not for this particular moveset. Something like that as a down smash would have been pretty unorthodox for Melee.
