I actually wouldn't be surprised if processed, frozen and bagged fruit is cheaper than going to the store and buying some fruit. Especially since fruit in general is expensive, and especially since it can be marketed as healthy, organic or as sustainable since you can now buy fruit that's not been rapped in several layers of plastic.

bagged frozen fruit is WAY cheaper. Its the only way I can do fruit. Plus, since it's frozen, it doesn't go bad in 3 days

It is way cheaper, easier to distribute, and even healthier. The plastic wrapping sucks but a lot of fresh fruit is also packaged in plastic :/

Yes! Also fresh fruit is picked way before it is ripe so I can ripen along the way to the grocery store. Which has multiple stops in between leading to increased gas use/emissions. While frozen fruit is picked when ripe, frozen and sent from the distributor to the grocery store. So alot less footpath than fresh believe it or not.
Learned this from the SortedFood channel. They have a series that talks about if more expensive is actually better than the cheaper alternative wit respect to taste/quality/sustainability! Def check them out if you want to be more conscious about where ur food is coming from.

Unless you have access to a pick your own fruit farm and get a HUGE amount in season (which is both time consuming and highly dependent on living near a farm that allows it) frozen fruit is better for your wallet. It's also better for food waste because you don't risk the fresh fruit going bad before you can process it.

The 1g/lb protein recommendation is usually more of a muscle-building advice for gym people. 1g/kg is fine/ideal for non-gym people.

I don't think the smoothie looked that good not because it's vegan or whatever but because it's a dark green and the dark makes it look like some gross sewer sludge.

Fresh fruit is actually more expensive than frozen. Frozen does not have to be appealing to the eye since it's processed so they use the discolored, misshaped fruits for it.

    • @user.Icarus

I mean you're right, but for the wrong reasons. Frozen fruits still need to meet a standard, discolored and misshaped fruits are resold to other companies that manufacture heavily processed foods like fruit bars, or even dog treats. The savings usually come from the packaging and a more time sensitive travel cost, although fresh and frozen fruit both use reefer trucks to get to the store, it is obviously more important for fresh fruit to get there as fast as possible for aesthetic reasons as you said.
