Yup, my first had a bath after a day in the hospital, my second a week after birth. Her skin was so much softer and her body temp regulated so fast, and my first struggled. Leave that vernix on if you can. She’s a week old now and just thriving

A sponge bath is recommended till the umbilical cord dries and falls off. The trapped moisture causes infection. Tye fact that this is a clinical setting blows my mind. Even my doctors agreed with my midwife about the no water till stump falls thing, described above.

You can say the same thing to a victim of a car crash. You'll be just fine, bar the small concussion you got, some ptsd and a few nightmares. That washing looks like a car wreck too btw. Totally unnecessary. Why don't they perform a C-section monthly during pregnancy to wash the baby and put it back in if he's covered in dirt that needs to be washed away. I had the privilege of watching my son give his baby boy his first bath in the hospital. It was similar to this but the baby didn't cry. What an experience. My son is such a good hands on dad.

The infant of that age loses heat quickly and cannot replace it on its own and can cause shock which takes a lot of time to overcome. Plus the natural oils on that newborn make them slippery and hard to safely hold. Lack of knowledge or lack of care is evident in this video.

What are you talking about? Newborns have no other way of communication so they WILL cry when they are in different circumstances or they receive a new stimulant like water on the skin. It is normal and stimulating a newborn will actually greatly increase its chances of survival because crying removes excess fluid in the lungs, which can cause cot death a few weeks after birth. Babies can’t be treated like adults or talking children, they cry for multiple reasons even good reasons.
I recall ESPN and Skip and Shannon reporting on each and every one of these incidents BUT they never had this amount of detail about any of them. So relatable. I traveled from Florida to NYC during a major blizzard back in '06. It was so traumatizing. I was so cold i couldn't speak. If I could I would cry like this baby lol.
I always rinsed my baby off after a bath, otherwise the poopy water is still covering them. A quick rinse after a blow-out was much simpler than fighting with a million wipes too.

I had the privilege of watching my son give his baby boy his first bath in the hospital. It was similar to this but the baby didn't cry. What an experience. My son is such a good hands on dad.

@@shottwice I’ve worked with newborns for 30 years professionally and babies do cry but this was borderline dangerous. The infant of that age loses heat quickly and cannot replace it on its own and can cause shock which takes a lot of time to overcome. Plus the natural oils on that newborn make them slippery and hard to safely hold. Lack of knowledge or lack of care is evident in this video.

What are you talking about? Newborns have no other way of communication so they WILL cry when they are in different circumstances or they receive a new stimulant like water on the skin. It is normal and stimulating a newborn will actually greatly increase its chances of survival because crying removes excess fluid in the lungs, which can cause cot death a few weeks after birth. Babies can’t be treated like adults or talking children, they cry for multiple reasons even good reasons.

I always rinsed my baby off after a bath, otherwise the poopy water is still covering them. A quick rinse after a blow-out was much simpler than fighting with a million wipes too.
They would have called the police for me on that hospital if that’s how they handled the child I just gave birth too.

I don’t really see the need for hospitals to soak every newborn like we do at home. This nurse was handling him with care and kept the water brief from what I could see. He was probably sticky with fluids and needed a bath.
