When I heard the Eddie died , I wept , I’m a 55 year old man , and I wept . Van Halen was the soundtrack of my youth ,I was fortunate enough to see them in concert twice ,and both times I was blown away by both the music and the performance . The second concert ,I was close enough to the stage ,I could see Eddie smiling through the entire show ,and you just know he was exactly where he wanted to be . RIP Eddie ,and thanks for everything you gave us .

I'm a 54 year old man. I don't even remember how many times I've seen Van Halen. One of the concerts I went to in Philadelphia I was sitting 3 seats away from Valerie Bertinelli. Someone threw a bra on stage and David Lee Roth picked it up, held it high for the crowd to see and announced this is definitely not Valeries! It was clearly a very large cup size! He then threw it to her and she caught it and laughed. They could have done that in every show on the tour, I don't know, but it got a great response from the crowd. It's not too often you hear a crowd at a rock concert laughing like they are at a comedy show! Yeah, David Lee Roth was truly the greatest showman. Eddie was truly one of the GOATS. Great times!!!

    3 takeaways/comments...
    1. I see where these kids get their manners, morals, warmth, empathy, etc. Nice job, dad.
    2. One of the first reactions I watched on your channel was Mean Street. When Claire made the observation "We just want some new shoes" off of Dave's lyrics "Talkin some new kicks..." that gave me incredible joy. Loved that.
    3. Congrats on the 20K followers. You deserve it...and I'll keep sharing you on my FB.

@@jamesb.9472 if this was a thread debating the meaning of lyrics, your comment would make sense. I'm 49 years old...I was alive and enjoying this music when VH released it...and well aware of the meaning of "kicks" as it was used in the song. If Dave meant playing hide-and-seek in the Mean Streets, or a life of crime, or Paul Revere and the raiders Kicks meant doing drugs and alcohol....who cares? Neither one was Claire's interpretation of the word and meaning...which hilariously, she thought was new shoes.
So I guess I don't need an explanation of "what" you meant....maybe I should've asked "why?" Why feel the need to comment what Dave meant or another song meant, when all I was saying was that Claire thinking it meant new shoes, was funny and cute?

I don’t think EVH will ever really die. His music has been a big part of so many lives, and will continue to be. When I was much younger, I remember getting to go to tower records, and was going to buy my very first cassette (yes that was a few years ago) I wasn’t sure what I wanted to get, because I didn’t at the time really have a favorite music type. I saw Van Halen 2 on the shelf, and liked the plain cover with the classic VH emblem, and I bought it. I took it home, not knowing what I had got myself into, immediately unwrapped it, put it in my new cassette player, and from the moment I heard him play............ I wanted to be Eddie Van Halen.............
I think it may have been that way for a lot of us youngsters at that time.
Rest In Peace sir Eddie Van Halen.

It was like that for a lot of us. My experience was on a school bus in 7th grade in 1978. A buddy of mine played his cassette of the first album. When I heard Eruption, I said "The spaceship has arrived". Eddie transformed what guitar playing looked and sounded like. After over 40 years, I'm still trying to perfect my guitar playing skills.

I got to see Van Halen when I was in second grade, my mom took me to a show on Van Halen's 1984 tour. Your reactions made me think of when I was at that show and how Eddie and Alex and Michael Anthony and Diamond David Lee Roth just floored me! I wanted to and ended up starting to learn to play drums and guitar. (Phil Collins was another drumming inspiration, definitely check out his drum duets and solos in the band Genesis and his solo tours. Both his sons, Simon and Nick are amazing drummers as well).

Eddie's wonderful smile was genuine and borne of his love for music, but there's another, lesser reason for a smile; his dad once told him (and I'm paraphrasing, here), "If you make a mistake, smile, and people will think it was intentional". It was advice he passed along to his son Wolfgang.
Although the void he has left never will be replaced, in time, we'll turn from mourning this great loss, to celebrating all that he was and the wonderful, positive, lasting effect he had on all of our lives.
The three of you making this video is greatly appreciated.
Rock on - and long live the memory of Edward Van Halen.

I saw Van Halen both 39 and 40 years ago in Toronto (they were touring supporting their 3rd album at the old Maple Leaf Gardens). 40 years ago, I met Eddie Van Halen in a bar (I was 17 years old - LOL) and he gave me a guitar pick. One of the best stories from my younger years. He also signed an autograph for me. He actually approached me because I had a whole bunch of Van Halen buttons on my shirt that I bought outside the concert. He was so great to me that night as it was after the concert and he was just relaxing and was probably tired. Great memory!

My first rock concert that I attended: Van Halen at the old Boston Garden in 1980. $12 for a ticket. I was 15 years old. And it changed my life forever as I was blown away by ferocious live, loud music from a new band that practically blew the roof off of the venue! 40 years ago the concept of our rock God's passing away wasn't even something we could imagine. But sadly the musicians that played the soundtrack of our lives are starting to get old and pass away. In less than the course of one year we have lost Neil Peart of Rush and Eddie Van Halen. Both of them are routinely considered in the best of all time category with regards to the instruments they play. RIP EVH

Back in 1986, my brother and I won a local radio contest here in Rochester, NY and we met Eddie Van Halen and the band on their 5150 tour at that time. He and his brother Alex, bassist Michael Anthony, and Sammy Hagar were all very friendly and we shook their hands and had a" meet and greet" before their show! It was an experience that I will never forget! I saw Van Halen maybe 3 or 4 times in my lifetime and they were always a great band to see live. Growing up, Van Halen was my favorite band and Eddie's playing inspired me to go out and buy a guitar back in the 80's, haha! Anyways, keep the reactions coming. When I first discovered Van Halen, it was the mid-80s and Jump was just released. Music videos were in their infancy, but they were established enough that they were a thing. And when I first saw the video for Jump, one of the first things I noticed, was what Claire pointed out ; how Eddie was always smiling and laughing. Before I learned who each of the guys in the band were by name, I referred to Eddie as "the guy who always looks like he's enjoying himself". Little did I know, he did not just "look" that way, he probably genuinely WAS enjoying himself. It wasn't for the cameras. It wasn't just posturing. He clearly loved what he did, and as long as he was in his element, pursuing his passion, making and playing music and making millions of other people smile and enjoy themselves, how could he not be smiling and enjoying himself too?

Ediie is one of the two guitar players that made me want to play guitar. (Hendrix is the other.) the first time I really heard him go nuts was on the radio. A local station would play album sides at midnight. I used to listen to the radio while I slept back then. That night they played side one of "Van Halen". "Eruption" came on and woke me up out of a dead sleep and into complete amazement. It was like there was a volcano in my room and it changed me. That started me on endless hours of trying to learn Eddie's music and technique. I cam to see his love and passion for guitar and that resonated with me so much. I have carried Eddie with me ever since then and will continue to do so.
To quote Vinnie Paul and Dimebag Darrell: "VAN HALEN!!!" 🎶😎👍

I was born in 1986. The performance Eddie did of Eruption is a good way of dating what music was popular when I came into this world. He coined so many of those sounds, tore apart guitars, amplifiers, and put them together sort of like a mad scientist of guitar music. He’s the REASON guitar tabs exist because standard music can not put into writing what he’s doing on guitar. It’s good to see that generation Z can also appreciate how amazing all of that is. Keep doing what you do. Rock and roll will never die.

When Eruption came out, nobody had heard any thing like it, because it didn't exist. It was so far out of the realm of what anyone thought was even possible.
Even the well established guitar players were like 'what the heck is that?, and how did he do that?'.
Everyone who has picked up a guitar since has been influence by Eddie ,or by another guitarist who was influenced by him.
Very nice tribute. You guys are doing a great job. And you now have 20 thousand people that think that too.

Rest In Peace Eddie!!! There will never be another guitar player to change the world like Eddie Van Halen did. I agree with you guys that Eddie Van Halen had a great smile. Most guitar players try to look tough when they play guitar, but Eddie always had a smile on his face when he played.

I was 10 yrs old the first time I saw VH. It was one year prior to the release of their first album. I was lucky enough to have a mischievous babysitter who, instead of staying home and babysitting me, took me to a backyard party (mom never found out). I didn’t quite understand the magnitude of skill I saw in Eddie at the time, but a year later, when their first album came out, then I realized how awesome it was to have seen him. I’ve practically idolized Eddie since then. I’ve never been too affected by the death of a popular figure, but losing Eddie really hit hard for me.
You three are doing a great job of keeping great music alive. Thanks for all the effort you three make on this channel.

I saw Van Halen many times, but the one that stands out was the first time on the Diver Down tour. I had never seen a musician take a 10 minute guitar solo before. In the midst of this sonic landscape,Ed got a running start, and ran UP a speaker column. He hit it hard enough to get it rocking almost to the point of toppling over. He did it three times and not only was it an amazing thing to watch,it was the most rock and roll thing I had ever witnessed. It was epic. And,it was obviously unforgettable.

Dad, you are so correct! Van Halen is so amazing.. like you said even tho we didn't know him personally.. we knew him! He was part of our lives growing up, when these people are there with you every day.. it's so hard to think they'll be gone. It hit me pretty hard, just made me want to watch everything about him and the best thing I've heard so far is what your sweet daughter said. The smiling guitarist. That sweet sweet smile... gosh back in the 80s with all that hair and that smile🥰.. of course he was still beautiful when he grew older. Such an amazing talent, unreal sounds, his brother Alex on drums was the icing on the cake. Thank you for this video, thank you for all your behind the scenes on the last reaction video (dad rocking in the background) 😂😂 that was GREAT! Y'all take care, be safe and just keep rocking to the greatest rock era ever!!!

Very good Claire. He was enjoying what he loved to do. Very important observation, I saw the 1984 tour and it was a very happy cool show. My home town really impressed him when he did his solo. More lighters than I’ve ever seen at a show. You could see he was genuinely touched by that moment. I’ll never forget that. Goodbye EDDIE. Peace, Phil

Very astute for noticing his smiles, kids. And know this; if people see you smile, chances are they will smile- smiles are magic medicine. The best musicians are above the tough face persona. My older sister and I started playing (guitar, drums, piano, harmonica, singing) when we were your age and we still have a blast jamming- we're older than dad. Take up an instrument, you'll enjoy it your entire life. God bless!

Being a dad @ 54 now, definitely grew up with Eddie Van Halen through my high school years in the early 80's, and seeing him live, for the first time on their 1984 Tour, was something to behold. Also saw VH with Sammy Hagar on their 5150 tour and I believe Balance tour. But he was so innovative, and always seemed to be having the best time on stage, he easily became my favorite guitarist of all time to this day. I always love to see young people of today react to him, and actually be in awe, or at least notice his distinct playing ability and appreciate him. It was definitely a kick in the gut, to hear of his passing. I lost my mother to cancer, when I was 19, so Cancer and I go way back. Maybe that's why I became an RN for 26 years, to try and help people through difficult times, or at least ease their suffering..... So anyway, thanks for the reaction videos, and best of luck to your channel! Look forward to seeing many more vids! R.I.P EVH

I owned a music instrument store in my little town of about 3000 people for 22 years. We opened in June of 1990. I sold a line of guitar amplifiers called "Crate" and I sold a couple of brands of guitars, one of which was Kramer, which was on the way out at the time, but they were around for about 2 years after I opened. Sammy Hagar was a Crate endorsee at the time, and of course, Eddie Van Halen had been a Kramer user, but was in the process of switching to Music Man guitars at the time. In December of 1991, I got a visit from a couple of the guys from Crate, one was my rep, and one was the artist development guy, who had been working with Sammy. At the end of our visit, they told me that Van Halen was going to be at our local university arena in February of 1992, and wanted to know if I wanted a pair of comp tickets since I was a Crate dealer, and of COURSE I said yes. That turned out to be one of the more memorable shows I ever saw live. They opened with Poundcake, and Eddie used the drill as an effect on the guitar, which was nothing like I had ever seen before. I never really was one to try to play Eddie's music, honestly, his stuff was on a whole other level than my playing was, although I had a bunch of customers who could play a lot of the VH stuff. But having said that, this has hit me like a ton of bricks. He literally changed the way guitar players approach the instrument and he also changed how we approach a guitar sound. He has had WAY more effect on music today than most can even imagine. I'm SO glad I got to see them once. Godspeed, Eddie, you changed the world for the better. There will never be another.

I don't play the guitar, but my guess is that most people who do, and are 55 years old and younger, probably started because they heard EVH and thought....I'd love to do that. Right? I mean you guys named him the happy guitarist- I love that by the way and I bet anything he would've too! Just think about the life he had, doing something he clearly loved and he got to bring joy, awe, excitement and happiness to literally millions and millions of people all over the world! That's just amazing! Eddie....please Rest In Peace.

I may be around the same age as you "Dad", in my 40s. '1984' was when I really discovered Van Halen, it was one of the biggest things in the world when I turned 13 (I discovered Springsteen and Van Halen in 1984 and it changed my world). I have a good friend who is about ten years older than me, and he said when Van Halen first hit the scene in the late 1970s, it was mind blowing. That period of time was dominated by disco and easy listening. So when VH burst on to the scene, it was amazing and so unlike anything else out there.
