I remember when I was young and started playing handbells at my school in the music room they had a player piano that was a full size one that It had 88 keys and was acoustic but it ran on discs and it played songs it plugged into the wall and you would put the discs in the disks were similar to like records or something like that And there was a toy version as well that would play as well I had some fun with that thing watching the keys pop up and down and go from different notes and listening to the music and things like that I enjoyed it It was so much fun for me It was cool and interesting to see a player piano It was so much fun I felt like I could just set the piano to play whatever I wanted in real time so I wouldn’t have to play it that was fun I enjoyed that But then they broke and then we couldn’t figure out what happened to it The mechanism broke we had some people try to figure that thing out but they couldn’t find anything and they believe it’s on the inside something happened So something happened and that’s what happened basically So basically now doesn’t play anymore I haven’t heard that thing since 12 years And it’s been a long time I want to hear it play again

I (‘99) inherited my Pianolodeon from my mother (‘58) and had so many good times with it, tattered scrolls, mussed keys and all.

I first saw one of these around Christmas in the early 60's and wanted one badly. It didn't happen then, and years later I found one at a flea market and bought it. It had no rolls, but I contacted the Chein company, which still was in business at the time, and was able to buy a couple left-over titles right from the factory! You're right about the mechanics-thin metal and breakable plastic innards. My tubing needed replacement. Definitely not made to last forever! Thanks for watching!

Thank you! I have one of these but can't get it to work.

The rubber tubing inside always needs to be replaced. You may find a suitable substitute online. The motor and attached air pump usually needs cleaning and lubrication. It can be brought back if the plastic innards are intact. Just go slowly if you try your own restoration!

This toy piano had a very distinct sound (since it used metal rods). Almost more like a music-box then a piano Hearing this video brought back vivid memories. Even the hole pattern in certain parts of the song seemed familiar as I watch the video. I loved mine and played with it a lot for several years.

I wanted one of these, badly, back in those days when I saw them on the toy shelves during Christmastime. It didn't happen then, but I found this one much later, so good things happen to those who wait! Thanks for the comment!

I had the Ivory colored version of this piano as a kid (I got it in 1962 or 63) I had about six rolls including this one (which was my favorite). I guess I had it for some six years. It finally wouldn't play rolls (although it still played manually). Years later it occurred to me that since it worked by suction like a vacuum cleaner, It was probably merely choked up with dust.
The hammers struck metal rods inside to make the tones, these were fragile and are now broken on many of these pianos.

I also have one of these. It's nice to see one where the plastic keys aren't warped.

It's fun to get these playing again, though the old plastic tends to get brittle. Thanks for the comment!

I can't get mine working. At least you're one step head of me there :) I can rebuild real player pianos, but not these!

It's likely any of these you'd find nowadays would need some work. This piano needed new rubber tubing and work on the motor. The mechanism is mostly plastic, which doesn't allow much fine-tuning of the player. I've seen them selling on the online auction sites, and sometimes these are claimed to have been restored.
    Thanks for the comment!

I have one in its original box on shelf in my office closet. My grandparents bought it for me new around middle 1960's. Wonder if anyone wants to buy them, especially when stored in its original box. Have not tried to use it for perhaps 40 years so it might not even work.

The rubber tubing inside these mechanisms usually needs replacing, along with some attention to the electric motor inside. You might get some interest on Craigslist if you decide to sell!
