@@Hurry4Curry Boucher deserves it. He has the potential to be a two-way rim protecting stretch big, but he often plays like a two-guard. Two-way rim protecting stretch is the most valuable archetype you can have (besides superstar of course). Just look at how JJJ transformed the grizzlies this year.

Even now when the Raptors aren't great, the team still plays good basketball rather than relying on one player to chuck shots up (which is usually the case in the team's fighting for play in spots or below). Huge credit to Nick Nurse for that and it will help the Raptors a lot to build a teamwork first culture once they draft more young guys.

Imagine having the stamina of a long-distance runner, while needing the explosiveness and burst of short-distance sprinter, while also being handle the ball, think on the fly, and be able to shoot that accurately for 35-40 minutes. That strategy against Curry only work without Klay and KD. They were 2-2 vs Curry, Kay, and Green. Won 1 game when Klay didn't played and won another when Warriors were leading before Klay got hurt. It is not going to work now cause Dubs has the bench now.

Nurse never seen anything like the Raptors defensive ability, and to think they woulda got 3-1'd in the Finals by a team missing a quarter of its salary cap til Klay's ACL happened. Klay was having a "Game 6 Klay" game so that's an easy win, and then with 2 wins in a row and all the momentum possible I'd confidently have bet my left nut GS ain't losin G7 after that. Not with the chance to prove that KD can leave and it dint matter, GS still the best bc Steph better than KD(as we've always seen when Draymond healthy).

Nick's last point about the 2019 team is very poignant. Raptors had a full top 7 (Lowry, FVV, Green, Kawhi, Ibaka, Siakam, Gasol) who were all top tier defensive players, with Norm being no slouch as the 8th man. I don't think we'll see that collection of defensive prowess and intelligence on the floor anytime soon.
The scary thing is the Raps didn't even have OG for that run...and he's one of the premier wing defenders. Boucher is above average too and he just rode the bench. That would've been a 10-deep lineup of elite D. Just insane to think about. I can hardly think of any team that was not only defensively solid top to bottom like they were, but also had the top tiier guys like Kawhi/Gasol etc.....ever. Possibly the best defensive team of all time.
