I love this documentary. I was born in the upstate and went to college in Charleston and lived there for 6 years, also spent alot of time there growing up. I loved getting to see it in a different time! It Hasn't changed much! proves how timeless the Charleston charm and culture is lol! I was born after this documentary was made but, The textiles are gone now for the most part, mcclellanville never got developed all that bad. Hilton Head is still awesome. Also i never witnessed much racism, Pretty much just old and a select few stupid people.
David I just finish watching this! growing up in California South Bay I found the history of South Carolina very fascinating, was "Portrait of America" a series for Ted Turner Broadcasting in the mid to late 1980's that feature each State in America if so, did you work on each episode, that was narrated by Hal Holbrook, thanks again David Hoffman for the link to this. 😊
A wonderful story, David, you are one heck of a film maker ! I didnt know you made this film of Portraits of America. Ive never been to Charleston, but Id love to visit .We were in Columbia, when our son was at Ft. Jackson but never made it over to Charleston. & Mira Bell, what a sweet lady, Ive heard its got such lovely old homes. Preservation of the past , is so important for our future generation . Money cannot buy happiness, thats for sure. If our spirit isnt fullfilled , we arent happy. Ive found that Only God , can fill that empty space, and bring true lasting happiness ! Thank you David, Ive so enjoyed watching this.
