Story begins at 00:01:30. The music used at the beginning and end of the story is an extract from 'Duet for Two Violins' by Luigi Boccherini, Op 5 N2 Larghetto. Much needed spent the day moving my nephew. I was the only one that showed up to help that’s sad because the family is big but Simon is here to cheer me up Thanks Simon.
This is a VERY serious family contretemps. Shocking really. (I'm not being facetious). My advice: forgive, but never forget. Again, never let them forget it. Dumping a house move is BIG. Revenge is a dish best eaten cold. (Try hot/cold compresses on the muscles) I'm reacting because I've been there.
Good to read Simon’s readings bring you cheer too. Sounds like a tough day. More power to you for being present. Says good things about you. Onward and upward 💐💐⭐️⭐️🤗🤗🇨🇦
There is an obvious reason these *Doyle* stories are still thriving in 2024 ... they are treasures to this sad ol' world & now tech like YT & narrators like *Simon Stanhope* give them new life in a ready archive for future generations ... I hope
"Is this too condensed or can you follow it?" lmao!! Exceptionally good American accent! I'm American and I'm very impressed! Nicely read as always, Simon! Thank you so much!
I always want to know more about the remarkable worm! 😅 It's been a long day, so I'm absolutely delighted to have this performance of a cracking Holmes mystery to nestle in with. Thank you Simon!
Ah yes, the tantalising "unrecorded cases". The Singular Affair of the Aluminium Crutch is one that's always stayed with me. And "the politician, the lighthouse and the trained cormorant". I'd love to know more about the remarkable worm too, but as it's unknown to science I fear we never will! Thanks for listening Binkie, glad to know you enjoyed it
Beautifully narrated! Though I've heard others read Sir Arthur's masterpieces, this was the most intriguing rendition I've heard, and that includes Mr. Cumberbatch. Thank you!
This was a tremendously vivid reading. I have read all the Sherlock Holmes stories, but your narration made me take note of the story and characters much more attentively. My first thoughts were 'plus ça change' - the wealthy and powerful businessman who thinks he can buy whatever he wants, including consciences, and who has no conscience about the damage he inflicts. I only hope that Miss Dunbar had better sense than to marry such a stinker! Thank you for a very thought-provoking reading.
Many thanks 🙏🏽 for the redo Simon! 😊 This version brightened up a bit from your earlier voicing…💚 which I enjoyed as well…new American sound for Gibson is smashing!
Thanks Stephanie! This one's been on my back-burner for a while, I recorded it months ago but didn't get around to editing til recently as I've focussed on new stuff. But I like the story (I think it's the only one in The Case-Book that comes close to the standard of the earlier ones) and thought it worth a do-over... plus I wanted to have a go at an American accent! I have one or two more potential stories with American characters on my list, so this was dipping my toe in the water. I'm glad you noticed the brighter sound. That's lovely to know, thank you. Many of my older recordings were done in an under-stairs cupboard with very basic acoustic treatment... I'm much happier with the sound quality of my studio now!
@@BitesizedAudio I'm starting to get the feeling that 'under-stairs cupboards' are quite a bit larger than I originally thought. I'm a smallish person, and fitting me, recording equipment, and even the slightest sound-proofing under our stairs sounds like it would need a contortionist and a pry-bar.
Another pleasant evening spent with some excellent listening material. Since all of the stories included in "The Case Book of Sherlock Holmes" are now in the public domain all over the world, I eagerly expect more delights from that volume to come.
Thanks Simon. I have to admit, although a great Holmes fan I tend to rank most of the Case-Book stories towards the bottom of my list of favourites! Personally I think 'Thor Bridge' is the only one in the collection which approaches the quality of the earlier adventures. Greg Wagland has done superb readings of the whole canon on UA-cam, but I'd certainly like to read one or two more at some point... I'd list 'The Solitary Cyclist', 'The Red-Headed League' and 'The Six Napoleons' as among my personal favourites to have a go at. I'd also love to tackle 'The Hound' at some point, but that's an altogether more ambitious project!
Description of some of these carictars ,still showing light on today's villain's . Screening themselves behind charity well doings . Politics included.
your signature intro piano riffs are downtempo and dreary ... why use such plaintive melancholy downers that set the table with stale bread and no salt.....you have a rich talent....introduce it and yourself with some humor or a tasteful uptempo happy riff.....tell your followers there's ice cream ahead

I like your little intro. It's in good taste.

Good on you for not bailing. Moving house is always stressful, at least he had you for support.
@THEPAGEBURNER1979 Moving is indeed hard work, good on you for helping
How kind everyone is. ❤ from West Virginia

Appreciated, thanks Katy
This was the best audiobook rendition of this story I have heard and I have listen to quite a few. Great job, Simon.
That's very kind of you to say, thank you!
i very much enjoy your Holmes, pray give us more of this. sir!
Thank you, noted!
This was such an interesting mystery to plot out *Doyle* did well & his closing lines do sum up what life may throw our way
Thanks, Simon! Well done as usual. 😊
Thank you again for another wonderful story Mr. Stanhope. I have loved Sherlock since my childhood.
You're most welcome. I'm a lifelong fan too!
Oooh! This just popped up. Perfect timing! Tks
I so look forward to your renditions Simon, thank you so much , Jo x
Appreciated, thanks Jo!
Ah! An American accent that doesn’t make me wince -Bravo! 🇺🇸
Phew, that's a relief! Thank you!
Yeah we dont sound put up , contrived, quirky, we Americans who people worldwide copy. Just do not get that with any other country, do you?
Simon Stanhope is British as is his accent & the stories he reads🇬🇧 to avoid admitting the value of our allies, better stop listening now😂
I love the violins 😊 It's my favorite musical instrument. Thank you for the story!

I listen to your narrations outside whilst floating on my inflatable raft in my little pool in my back yard. You make "catching rays" enjoyable.
🎉 love it thank you
I've heard this story before but forgot the ending, so that and the excellent narration made it worth listening again. ❤
Thank you so much!!
Hello, so happy to see this!
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Thank You *Simon*
So enjoyable as usual, thank you!
I love listening to these stories thanks so much , you read beautifully so easy to listen to
Another fine tale

@@BitesizedAudio You're right. Conan Doyle was pretty much past his prime (at least as far as Sherlock Holmes stores go) by then.
@@BitesizedAudio Solitary Cyclist is my very favourite, what with a thrilling brawl and the best villain smackdown line ever. ..No pressure 😅
Thank you you're the best! 💕
Thanks Marisa, appreciated!
I love this channel. I just found it and cant stop listening
Yay Simon!!!❤❤❤😁😍😊
You always refresh my brain, a palate cleanser for current realities. Thank you
What an amazing channel this has become. Well done Simon. I’ve followed your journey from the beginning and it’s wonderful to see 🙏
This is one of my absolute favorites.
❤ thank you Simon wonderful story! And so beautifully performed🌷
Thanks!
Thank you for your support, much appreciated 🙏
That you would make a splendid job of narrating Holmes Simon, I can only say, was elementary.
Stanhope is a superior narrator.
Outstanding
Bravo! 🦋
