Cut the flexor tendon for the tip of my pinky, a long tome ago pulling a trans in a mustang. Had the surgery to reconnect it and the nerve. They had me keep it mobile too long and the tendon scarred to the slides and never regained movement in the tip of my pink.... boo hoo to me, good thing it was just the pinky tip on my non dominate hand. This was years ago and surgeries have come a long way. The nerve did come back after years and years though. But this was also a clean cut, well sharp cut (full of grease). Good luck with the thumb and worst case, rig up some rubber band to extend the thumb! They'll get you all fixed up, good thing it's still there and didn't get pulled out from your arm!
Almost all of the boxes I encounter that were installed with KE2 therms don’t get wired up for defrost control and they still use an OG clock. Old dogs and new tricks I suppose. I’d rather that personally anyway since I don’t keep a KE2 on the truck 😂. But yes it absolutely could do it all.

Question for anyone please ! Does a defrost termination switch just shut down the heaters ? Or does it also terminate the defrost time ?? Thank you for help !!!
The defrost termination (x terminal) shocks the clock and changes it from defrost to cooling mode. It’s the equivalent of just flipping a switch. Time initiates the switch from cooling to defrost and termination can initiate the swap back. It’s going to do whatever you’ve wired the defrost clock to control. Happy to help deeper if you like. Defrost termination switch, trips the time clock and terminates the defrost then holds fans off until evaporator coils reaches set temp to stop water from being pulled off coil and onto fan blades and shroud. There is also sometimes a high limit switch in series with the defrost heaters. It opens the heater circuit but does NOT terminate defrost.
You should not write responses with that injured finger. And i would get a second opinion or two before surgery. But just from experience that dumb fan has to start on hi speed. it should be on low speed only on reaching setpoint. that can cause ice up issues over time. If it ramped up to full speed, disregard my rant. im not looking for a response.
As far as the second opinion goes I can confirm that o can’t straighten. My thumb so the tendon things gotta happen. For the nerve, I was eventually sent to the “hand nerve” specialist so that’s kinda end of the line as far as niche roles go. I’m also aware the hand surgeon is always gonna think you need surgery. 😂 and I always appreciate your mechanical insight. 👍🏼

the KE2 control doesn't have a defrost output?
What was the banging noise after you turned on the disconnect?

I’ll have to rewatch. The only thing that energized immediately on the outdoor unit was the click of the clock relay.

Yes, it terminates defrost at a certain temperature, but if the switch fails and stays open, your defrost heaters will not energize
