Now I’m interested in seeing Jack read books that are recommended for the complete opposite personality type
Same 😂
Same
If we go by the letters, that would be an ISTJ, so (given my knoweldge of MBTI) that would probably be a how-to manual or something! 😂 (no shade to ISTJs)
@@autism_and_niamh 😂 I’d totally watch that
YES TO THIS
"my schedule is a suggestion." is my new way of replying to when i'm free.
This tracks. As an ISTJ, your exact opposite, I would never have gravitated towards the books you tend to recommend. But as a reader, I appreciate being challenged, and I have thoroughly enjoyed many of your recommendations!
What are some examples of books you do gravitate to?
@@thewonderlander1372 idk probably the bible /hj
@@thewonderlander1372the most boring and run of the mill books 😂
As an MBTI and book nerd, let me say this: ENFPs are probably (other than the ENTP) the most ambiverted types among the EXXX personality types. This is because the first function in this type is a function less focused on people, but focused on expanding ideas and looking outwards rather than being correlated to one's relation with people.
I'm an ENFP and totally agree with this!
oo im an enfp and that actually makes a lot of sense
Lots of people think that having an E or an I means that you're social introvert or extravert. It doesn't mean that at all I've reasoned, it only means that your dominant cognitive function is in an introverted or extraverted form. And, like you already mentioned, not all cognitive functions deal with people.
I have a friend who's an ENFP and he is the height of extroverted lol. He starts to get depressed if he doesn't talk with someone for more than a day
OOOH that makes sense as an Enfp
of COURSE you are an ENFP - sincerely, another ENFP
YES
Lol I knew I liked him 🤣 (fellow ENFP)
As an INFP, I totally see it too
Right?!!
exactly my thoughts 😭😭 now ik why i enjoy listening to him yap away
Am I the only one who’s so influenced they’re immediately going to buy all these books?
he’s an ‘influencer’ for a reason SHSFJFJF
You should. Cat's Cradle is soooo good and so is A Tale for the Time Being. I haven't read Still I Rise yet but it's Maya Angelou soo
@@kyris66literally added to my book list can’t wait 😍😍
I will do that blindly.. I have been waiting for this video for years
I always trust his recommendations honestly, he never let me down
MBTI is Astrology & Horoscopes for STEM/MBA students
I wholeheartedly agree.
It's almost like a cult by now 🙄
no one who actually knows typology thinks this lol. y'all get your knowledge from 16personalities and call it a day
as a stem girl i confirm
😂😂😂
no fun allowed
ENFP are considered to be the most introverted extroverts, so that explains a lot
Yeah same, when I did the test the bar for the introvert and extrovert was almost equal to each other
' one thing about me is i will feel .. look at my shelf of poetry ' real jack real
Ayeee! Where my other ENFP’s at?! 🤗🎉
Extroverts always think they are ambiverts and introverts always KNOW they are introverts.
To the first point: potentially you actually do look the same as always but in the same way that your mood influences the way you perceive your environment, it also makes you more aware of your own 'flaws'
This is actually not for Jack. This is for all of you who might wake up one day extra tired, upset, nervous, etc and just feel like you look awful. You might not look as bad as you think
this is such a nice obeservation, thank you
So I’m guessing no one will see this but I’m going to write an essay about MBTI theory anyway.
There are 8 functions, and 4 categories: Intuition, Sensing, Thinking, and Feeling. The 8 functions come from the introverted vs. extroverted version of these 4 categories so, the 8 functions are:
Introverted Intuition (Ni)
Extroverted Intuition (Ne)
Introverted Sensing (Si)
Extroverted Sensing (Se)
and so on…
Each MBTI type has 4 dominant functions, and for ENFP, they are Ne, Fi, Te, Si. This means that Jack has extroverted intuition, making him have a great imagination and is a function most readers have I think. Introverted feeling is about being very reflective, feeling emotions deeply, and also being well connected to one’s emotions. Te means thinking well with others. I’m not fully sure what Si means, sorry…
Also, another thing, is that introverted and extroverted opposites (eg. ENFP and INFP) actually have the same exact 4 functions, just in a different order, and of course the order ranks the functions from most prominent to least. INFP functions are Fi, Ne, Si, Te. I’m actually an INFP too!
In short, the actually type theory is not about the 4 categories individually, but rather about the functions, or cognitive functions. The difference between an ENFP and an INFP is not actually their social skills, it rather about which function is their dominant one, Ne or Fi?
Thanks for coming to my TEDTalk!
Ty❤ this was helpful(im an INFP too)
i read the message and checked out my own functions! interesting stuff
"Introverted Sensing (Si) retains, consolidates, and recollects historical and autobiographical information. It attends to and draws on a concentrated body of past experiences, routines, and traditions (i.e., the “tried and true”). It forgoes the constant pursuit of new or broad experiences, finding safety and security in stability and consistency. It also surveys inner bodily sensations.
A.J. Drenth, "My True Type: Clarifying Your Personality Type, Preferences & Functions"
You can analyze Si better with Si dominant types like Istj, they tend to be very traditional in their ways and don't like to change things too much, they tend to be more strict and less creative in my experience (i'm pretty sure Hermione is one? if she's not istj then estj but she has a lot of Si at least)
INFP too. Loved this , really helpful ❤
Yesssss the actual value of this system lies in the cognitive functions (the only aspect really created by Jung anyway)
Ι just really love the library in the background. like just, a moment of appreciation for how pretty this looks
a tale for the time being was one of the first books i read when the pandemic hit and nothing will compare to that feeling of being together with the book in loneliness. i credit it as one of the books that made me want to write both about books and my own fiction. i had never seen that kind of blurred reality/nebulous implied author-narrator situation before. what an incredible book! such ingenuity! let me go reread it
I heard “If on a Winter’s Night a Traveler” has that
'And Still I Rise' was the MA poem she wrote & recited, at President O'Bama's inauguration in 2009:
I'm an INFP. I should look up books for INFP's and do this.
i’ve taken the test a few times and always bounce between ENFP and INFP, so you’re totally right about it not being a binary! i like how they show you the percentages in the results so you can see just how close most of them are
I get the same mixed results. I wonder if it has anything to do with other factors like ADHD
I love this idea. I'm an INFJ. One of the book recs is, The Highly Sensitive Person by Elaine N. Aron, Ph.D. I bought that book for my mom thinking it would help her, but it looks like I'm the one who needs to read it. 😂
INFJ as well! I don’t know that I place a lot of stock in it in terms of what I read, though. 😉
Lol the title of the book is soooo INFJ-coded 😂
I'm also a INFJ. It would be fun to compare favorite books and least favorite books and see similarities.
Another great book with similarities to Elaine Aron's HSP book is
The Empath's Survival Guide: Life Strategies for Sensitive People by Judith Orloff
@@lifeinflight7778 I like that idea! I’m a big fan of crime/mystery, so I have read many of the bigger names in the genre: Agatha Christie, PD James, Louise Penny, some Donna Leon. I also like literary fiction like The Lacuna, The Poisonwood Bible, The First Man, Crime and Punishment, etc. And finally, I love biographies or books focused on disease and treatment (polio, AIDS, etc).
me also being an ENFP and Libra, it makes sm sense that I gravitate towards your videos 🫢
Same here 😂
As an INTJ, this video is irrefutable proof to support my suspicion that Jack and I would get along.
Yep, saw that from a mile away -INTP.
Another INTJ here, same thought.
Same! Yet another INTJ here
as a psychologyst i have to say, this has no real scientific base. you can do it for fun but do not take it as serious psychology. it's more like astrology.
today i went to a lot of bookstores and i'm so happy you uploaded today because it's a perfect day that way.😭 like i bought books, read books, and now i get to watch a brand new jack edwards video? thank you for posting honestly.😭 i love your passion for books and hearing your recommendations. also now i'll go look for intp book recs lol.
Ha! I am an INFP and need to see what books get recommended for me. EVERYTHING you have said about the NFP part is definitely how I am going to explain it to people from now on
Yes another INFP person i need books for us
Samee
INFP squad!
wow Jack having the same MBTI as me is like the biggest achievement guys I WON!
WAIT I AM AN ENFP TOO, I'M SO EXCITED TO WATCH THIS!!! I knew there was a reason I related to Jack so much lol
Hi Jack! I love your videos so much you’re one of my favourite Booktubers ❤️
Felt everything you described LITERALLY as an ENFP. No wonder i love your book suggestions so much!🥰
OMG I love ENFP s!! I'm an INFJ so the opposite when it comes to cognitive functions so it's a vibe with ENFPs. Hope you do one for every MBTI!! ❤
i loved the review for and still i rise. i love it when authors choose human resilience as a theme, the poems you read are absolutely amazing. she keeps on dying but never becomes dead and keeps on going, that's such a powerful message. thank you for that bit jack! thank you for sharing those parts.
I'm so happy that you're an ENFP, it somehow explains why I enjoy you talking.
- from an ENFP too
Cat's Cradle is my favorite book! I'm so relieved you liked it and are a Vonnegut fan!
always a good day when jack posts🫶🏼🎀
One of your fellow ENFPeople here. The way reading Maya Angelou makes me feel emotionally raw and also inspired to write...such a gem. Love this idea for book recs!
Immediately went to look up book recs for my type and one of them is the inspiration for something I'm working on! Love this idea x
Any INFJ’s here?
INFJ, reporting for duty.
present!
Any good book recommendations that you think INFJ’s would like?
Me me me!!!! I don’t know tooo much about it though so I don’t have any specific INFJ recs, but I would love to hear some
@@Emmy-rw8yl A little life and Demian, probably Siddhartha too
You are my favorite youtube channel to binge watch multiple times
This whole existential crisis and overlapping ideas he has at the beginning about I vs E vs Libra- is the most ENFP thing I’ve ever seen 😂 i say that as a fellow ENFP
Fantastic book recommendations Jack! Love it 🥰❤😊
YOU ALWAYS LOOK GOOD JACK !!! ISTG.
glad you loved a tale for the time being !! makes me wanna reread it again lol
personally i’ve never been less shocked to learn that jack is a extrovert
A tale for the time being was my favourite last year! Such an interesting book. I loved the parts in the temple of her great grandma, the explorations on zen, and descriptions of the island.
Jack, i usually bring you as an example as an ultimate ENFP ✨ love them!
i am so addicted to your videos and your humor.
Pls pls pls Jack, can you make this a whole series🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹 I would love to see the recommendations for my type
Omg yes!
As an INFJ whos with the Diplomat group like you, ill say this about ENFPs.
The ones i met are always kind, spontaneous, funny and always exploring. You always read things that are out of your comfort zone and give fair feedback, you have this welcoming vibe about you that some ENFPs have as well that is genuine, you give people chances and is for the most part optimistic of others. You also seem uncomfortable when criticizing others too.
The extroversion for you could be that you're enegerized by interacting with things in the outside world so it doesnt necessarily mean you're super talkative all the time.
Also the fact that youre in the diplomatic group which has wizards (INFJ) and Knights (ENFJ) gives off High Fantasy vibes 😂.
JACKS BACKKK
Can you do this but with all the MBTI personality types?
ah i'm so glad you liked tale for the time being! it was one of my favourites i read last year. i have the opposite myers briggs as you, funnily enough!
Mislim da nikad ranije nisam bila na videu, hvala za preporuke
As a fellow ENFP book nerd, this is the most niche & catered to me specifically video you have ever made and i am walking on dream holy shitttt
Now I need a series about the rest of the mbti personalities 😭😭😭😍😍😍
He is such an ENFP I guessed it before he even said!
I’ve taken the test many times and get both infj and intj and the books recommended for me were 2 Kafka books (castle and trial), the stranger by Albert Camus, man’s search for meaning, the four agreements, and the untethered soul :)
Never mind I took it today and apparently I’m now getting ENTJ? I have 51 49 e and I, and 52 and 48 thinking vs feeling lol
I'm with you. I've gotten all those - INTJ mostly, but next is ENFP! So I must be right in the middle of several continua. But the INTJ reading lit on Goodreads resonated more than the ENFP one.
A tale for the time being is my favorite book of all time
As a fellow ENFP, I am excited about these recommendations!
this tracks because i’m an ENFP and love every single book you love
I guessed your MBTI type correctly 🙌 My sister is also an ENFP and she is also an extravert in social situations but often needs and enjoys time spent alone. So I think your description is pretty accurate 😁
I’m am ENFP and everything Jack said in this video is so relatable and sounds exactly like me.
Also YES WE NEED MORE EXTRAVERTED BOOKWORM REPRESENTATION!!
THIS VIDEO IS JUST A BANGER and Jack dragged himself to filth 😂
Also, we love a lover boi
someone said jack should do the opposite personality type books and i agree 100%
As a fellow ENFP this is very helpful thank you
I definitely would have predicted that you are an ENFP! - I’m a true INFP (very little extroversion in me 🤭)
Totally agree with you Jack. As a teenage WOC maya angelou's poetry was the best thing I've ever come across. It felt representative to each and every aspect of human experience as well as being a POC and in certain allusions to anatomy regarding WOC and how you can sometimes feel like you're unwanted or undesired due to your ethnicity it felt like a breath of fresh air and a pat on the back.
Cool idea !!!
I love this video concept, I would also love to see you reed the recs of the opposite mbti, istj, to see if you really don't like those as much.
Yay the lovely Jack Edwards posts again (:
Plz turn these into a series😂🙏 let's see all personality types
Jack being an overthinker is my fav
As soon as you said you were an ENFP too, I literally gasped lmaoo. So fun to know more people who share the same personality type as me.
My Year of Meats by Ruth Ozeki is also really good imo!!! A Tale for the Time Being is on my TBR and I’m bumping it up to high-priority after your review ❤
I need Jack to learn his enneagram number and then read books for THAT
I'm liking my own comment, in hopes that he sees it.
I’m so happy Jack did this video! I want to read the books recommended for MBTI for so long, but I’m INTJ and am intimidated of The Secret History (long chapters), Crime and Punishment (not a fan of Russian classics), and the Divine Comedy (which I read when I was 12).
I would love a video about books for other mbtis!
As an ENFP I am 100% going to check these books out and see what else they recommend. Thanks!
MBTI definitely has layers to it -- it's like that iceberg meme. The more you look under the surface, the more you realize how logical it is, and how many nuances it has. You are right about the dichotomy vs spectrum aspect, and the importance of context. Everyone is capable of using all of the cognitive functions, but people tend to favor one over the other, and it's these tendencies that MBTI tries to capture.
If you really want to learn more about MBTI, I recommend reading a Carl Jung collection, or watch some Frank James on UA-cam.
I love kurt vonnegut! Idk if you've read them but Mother Night and The sirens of titan are my favourites. Highly recommend
this might become my fav video eveeeeeer (im enfp too!!!)
Another ENFP ❤ from 🇨🇦 Poetry-yes. I am reading Kairos on your recommendation
This is a great idea video! I’d be curious to see what your viewers/followers MBTI types mainly consist of 🧐 I am INFP, my husband is ENFP, and when I managed a cafe, I had all the people I hired take the test and almost all of them were ENFP/INFP which is interesting.. I’ve heard people that have the same two middle letters tend to gravitate towards each other!
ENFP here and let me tell youuuuu Tale For The Time Being enthralled me from start to finish. What a magnificent work of literature. I listened to the audiobook narrated by Ozeki which was fab. The edition now sits on my shelf to end all shelves xox
OF COURSE JACK’S AN ENFP!! Lovely, matches him so well (I absolutely love this type)🤭
ENFP here that was mesmerized by A Tale for the Time Being when I read it about a decade ago!
I’m so glad Jack loved A Tale for the Time Being. It’s a favourite of mine, and one of those where our tastes, generally quite different, have converged, it would seem. It felt like a very personal book to me, for some reason, though I haven’t had the experiences of either character, it had that weird kind of feeling that it was written about and for me.
I forget precisely what type I fall under on this test - I recall being on the cusp of a few options in many cases, though it’s been a while, and I never took it seriously, because its fun, but kinda nonsense too. But maybe I’ll take the test again and see what books it suggests.
this is a really interesting idea - and your definitely right about being extroverted and introverted depending on the situation. ive taken the Mbti test so many times and i always sway between INTP and ENTP.
Deciding between I or E is not so difficult, just think how you react to stressful situations: would you tend to withdraw if you are hurt and deal with your emotions or would you rather lash out, shout, cry? Also just read both INTP and ENTP and pick whichever you feel you are.
Jesus it makes so much sense why I liked you from the very first video I saw - your loving INFJ ❤
I absolutely loved Ruth Ozeki's A Tale for the Time Being! Highly recommend if you want to get swept into a story.
Jack you look as good as always
4:50 “everyday I wake up and choose chaos 😏😏” HOLLERING
I've always flipped between ENFP/INFP nice to know one of my favourite booktubers in the same ❤
I love this kind of video! I'd love to see book recs for other MBTI's
Understand you more now that you explained your personality type :) will be interested to read a book by an extrovert
I'm an ENFP and to know that Jack is one too is a weird flex for me to feel so happy about lol
Loved this video - thanks! And people's personality type (their preferred function) will influence how they rate books on goodreads - hence some give 1 star for your 5-star favourites! I tried book recommendations for an ISFP but they were hit and miss. The books I feel were written to me personally!!!: Circe (M.Miller wrote the character as an ISFP even though Circe was probably not), I who have never known man, Catcher in the Rye, Norwegian Wood, The Stranger (and to be honest anything existentialist). All deeply touched me. Anyone else with recommendations for an ISFP?
Could you do a video on book recommendations for other MBTI personality types? Please and thank you. PS: you look great for a 24hr flight truely setting a new standard of beauty!!
This is your friendly reminder to reread my favorite book The Master And Margarita. Thank you! :) (INFP btw)
Bro I knew you were an Enfp!! Voted it on insta. So vindicated but also, obvious 😊
Greetings from a fellow ENFP-it’s a great personality type to be. I’m not a huge fan of MBTI because I don’t like to put people on boxes, but it was a useful exercise to think about how people can think and process differently and adjust accordingly in the workplace. Interesting that there are books that are supposed to appeal to one type of personality.
In South Africa, the title poem *Still I rise* is reread and repeated at our Woman's Day events.
I will definitely look for that book at the library, next visit.
