If the seller knows nothing about coins it very difficult to make them believe,I’ve given people bad news about the value of their pocket change collection and they think iam wrong 🤷♂️
People forget the other side of supply and demand. A coin may damn well book for 1000 and you will take 500 but if I can't get a 100 why do I want that coin? Then there's how many people have the money to buy a 25000 dollar coin even if you sell it for 1/2 price. Investment type coins are a very tricky market. Just tell to submit it to auction. Tough Love. Keep up the good work, yeah it's thankless
First off thank you for providing us with your channel and just being straight forward. I’m new to coin collecting and I always appreciate your videos. I have a few from NNC and it does appear they are usually off a little bit. Do you recommend any books for beginners to become more educated? Thanks Again!
I use a suggested approximate grade in parentheses. But I clearly stated that it is only an educated assessment, not guaranteed. Just a basis for comparison.
Nice video Daniel, I was in my local coin shop and a man walked in asked if they were buying coins they said that they do and asked what he had for sale he said his grandfather collection he said he had fifteen coin and wanted 100,000 for them. They took a look at the coins and after about 15 to twenty told him that they wasn't interested in them. They told him that all that were worth was around 2000.00 and he asked if they were kidding. They apologized but no they were not. He didn't say anything just pack everything up and left the shop. I felt badly for the man but I couldn't say anything to him because it wasn't my place. They didn't explain why to the others customers there either one guy asked them about it and told him it was between them and the customer that left. Thanks for the video Daniel and have a great day and weekend.
I witnessed almost the same thing only not near that total money. People really get upset. I have one SGS morgan. It’s very nice though and most likely a grade or so higher if cracked out and resubmitted. Thanks Daniel for another lesson
I once had a dealer who called me in because a customer had a bronze coin of Constantine II as Augustus. I told her maybe $30 max. She insisted that it was rare and very valuable. The problem was that not all of the RIC (Roman Imperial Coinage) volumes had accurate rarities, since sometimes they were based on what was in museum collections. I told her if she was that confident of the rarity and value, she should send it to an auction house that specializes in ancient coins, such as Classical Numismatic Group or Harlan Berk. It may have been rare, but rare doesn't always equal valuable.
I’ll just stick to lowball Morgans… Collector since 1964 - kind of lost interest when MS…whatever came out. Playing defense doesn’t make for a fun hobby. Buy the coin, not the slab. Even PCGS and NGC don’t get it right all the time. Mini-Rant over! (He said with a chuckle…)
These are fake grading companies and fake grades, it would be fraudulent to sell knowing only ignorant people would bid on them. Anyone with enough money doesn’t bid on junk holders, they know better.
I'm sure one of the biggest pains is trying to explain why you are not going to buy the coin(s) at the highest value & that your offer is the "wholesale-ish" price so you can make a few bucks when the stuff finally sells. It's not like people are knocking down your doors every day looking to spend $20k on a single coin!
I remember reading about people doing it artificially by laying coins around fruit/bananas or something. With my luck, all I would get are fruit flies. @@CoinHELPu
I agree, PCGS has really gotten out of hand with their price guide. And then at the same time they started grading coins lower than the past. So by their "new" standards alot of their graded values can not be trusted.
Another example of the necessity of grading the coin instead of the holder - as well as the unrealistic expectations of prospective sellers. A new customer was introduced to me last Sunday that said he had a 1oz gold coin he wanted to sell. Before he brought the coin he told me he had sold similar ones to a pawn dealer for $10,000! It turned out to be a fantasy copper round with a gold wash. We were both disappointed. I did buy around $20 face of (genuine) constitutional silver from him - so at least it wasn't a total waste of time!
Another question ive noticed a ton of morgans in PCI holders that get beautiful toning, but i watched wjere a guy sent them to get crossed over and all of them cane back questionable color or artificial toning.
My favorite slabs are the anacs soap box. I know anacs isnt pcgs or ngc but for some reason those slabs have always been my favorite. I always take your advice and buy the coin not the slab but i still wonder how close to the grade the old anacs was etc. I generally assume a grade back but some of them really can be great in those slabs just probably hit and miss?
Thats how I got my 1934-S Peace dollar. I paid $850 for it in the 'motel soap box', graded AU58 by ANACS. Sent it to PCGS for crossover and it crossed. So I got a $1700 coin for $850 plus fees.
Great conversation.. I'm glad for myself not having any graded coins. Not that I wouldn't like to have any of them. It's just not my style but I can respect anyone who does. As they say ' fortune is in the eye of the beholder '.. Thanks Daniel for keeping my brain entertained.
They’re real.. except for the one that is a copy.. just over valued and over graded.. happens with those secondary authenticator/grading services. At the store I work for we’ll typically just bust them out and throw them with the rest of the raw coins and sell in bulk.
Thank you very much for sharing I just thought that I had bought 10 silver coins and found out that they was made of steel and some of them was made out of copper someone coded them with silver in a lab but I found out that it was all fake 20 fake old coins I bought a lot of junk but thank you for showing me how to find fake coins thank you very much
Daniel, please explain in at least a little detail why those grades are not accurate. You are just doing a because you said so on the grades being to high, tell us why they are, educate us more please.
I love your videos. Keep up the good work and these people. They think it's worth so much, but it's not. I'll go through that all the time here in oklahoma.😮
Whoever bought those coins should have spent a little more time watching your videos first. Did you run those coins thru the Sigma? Some of them look fake.
You don't know me nor have you conducted any business with me, so you can't make this statement in honesty. I bust coins out of these holders all the time and have for years. I don't sell coins in junk, ABC grading holders like this. What an ignorant and disrespectful comment.

Your the first one I watch whenever its new
Must get difficult sometimes when a customer brings stuff like that in to try to sell
And how do you explain the truth to the customer without them thinking you're a crook?
Thanks for sharing, Daniel. 😀

I show them and prove it.
You say I am sorry I just don’t have enough money to buy your collection.
Always good information. Thank you
SGS Star Grading Services here in Ashland, OH is no longer in business it closed a couple years ago and has never been a reputable grading service!
Who was it?
It's obvious to me that the seller got those values from one of the rip-off websites, selling common coins for big dollars.

The Ellis Island half dollar is also not silver as the holder says it is. So that holder is a complete lie.
Loved it!!! Go big D…….
Thank you Daniel. I will be goung through the channels to contact you if I may. I appreciate your efforts, time, and knowledge. 💎💙🦋
You don't contact me, you use the coinhelpu community to ask for help.
First thing I noticed was ,uh oh red flag, those are not PCGS, NGC, or ANACS holders.
Yup they're crazy!! But its not all their fault. Those grading companies are a part of the problem.

How did the customer take the news that the coins were not worth 70,000?
I explained and they understand.

Excellent video! BTW, I've cracked out some old PCI and sent them into PCGS and actually got upgraded. It happens sometimes.

Seller needs to put these up for auction if he thinks his values are so high. The market will decide the true valuation.

I wouldn't even look at them if they weren't graded by NGC or PCGS. Maybe ANACS if push came to shove.

True.
I never look at the grade or the opinion of graders. I have bought many coins called questionable color or cleaned that were not.
“The toning probably came from the holder”. Perfect summarization.
Not artificial in my book.
All toning is natural but the experts have decided on what is considered natural and unnatural based on toning patterns.
I remember reading about people doing it artificially by laying coins around fruit/bananas or something. With my luck, all I would get are fruit flies. @@CoinHELPu

I have a MS 70 09S VDB certified by me. I’ll give you a heck of a deal on it. Lol
The black holder is quite attractive. It reminds me of the earliest NGC holders (they're rare, and I've never seen one in person).
I would just say sorry not for me try down the road 😂
Very well done Daniel! Thank you.
Wow 😳..... Sad.... Research, research, research....
What grade would you speculate the Buffalo nickel is?
MS63
@@romangotkowski6400 it’s not for sell at any price in this holder. It will be cracked out of the fake holder then sold for a couple dollars.

Great job sir. Knowledge is power.

Yeah and that is total BS. A coin that tones from being in a holder, folder, album, etc is not artificial.
What is your opinion on ICG Coin grading company
I think ICG is ok - they just don’t have the ‘rep’ of the big two.
Reputable but too liberal on grades compared to the others.
Good job Daniel

@@typeviic1 I think so many people have done that that’s why not many good coins are left in anacs holders.
I've had an 1885 Morgan MS64 ANACS upgrade to a 65 at PCGS. Sometimes, they undergrade things.
Nice run don on the coins and holders.

All that can be done is to tell them the truth, but that doesn't always go down so well.
Hey Daniel
Hello
Wow, I think I better look at my stuff. I think it's worth way more than I paid for it. 😅
So they aren't greated from real company.

First to comment 👍😎👍
I will buy them from u for couple hundred
After I crack them out you can buy them for $250.
Funny once you buy them u will bump the grades back up to what holder says and u will want a fortune
