Sometimes, I feel like we as a community are far too harsh on cleaned coins. Often times I don't mind a cleaned coin as long as it's not too harsh and the piece still has good eye appeal. Especially for a man of few means such as myself. THX as always for sharing such beautiful coins!
Some beginning collectors don't understand the value added to coins after PCGS grades them. I've collected for 70 years and quit buying raw coins in the late 80's, after talking to David Hall.
Thanks for showing us all those gorgeous coins. Heck, I'll take the cleaned ones. Those don't bother me at all. But you can keep the polished one -- that was sad.
It's a self-fulfilling prophecy. By only sending to PCGS they will return the best value because they'll become the only game in town. When that happens expect to see huge grading fees.
Appreciate you sharing the submission results. As someone that submits coins to PCGS and received “details” results a sizable percentage of the time, it’s informative and encouraging to hear your perspective on the topic . Great hearing your approach to the hobby on these videos.
You should put a place to grade coins in México , I could help. I'm an American teacher who has lived here all my life could be great . There isn't a reliable place to grade.
Let me know, I'm An ENGLISH TEACHER who can help a lot besides I have coins I would love to grade. And I know bilingual and American people even Mexican who like to grade their coins.
Overall I think you did well Dan. I agree with your thoughts on Anacs you nailed it. Poor marketing and terrible holders. It’s amazing that they must hear that all the time but refuse to change anything, I just don’t get it. I thought pcgs was really tough on some of those grades but at the same time I like seeing that they’re being conservative.
Taking a coin like that to a jeweler to be polished is too horrifying, even for Halloween. I think ANACS does just fine with marketing. They get out to a lot of shows and run deals. They don't put out silly gimmicks and oversensationalize themselves. I really do think if they switched up their obnoxious holder, did a registry set thingy, and got a photo department in there, they'd start fetching better prices.
It’s not that they don’t do shows or advertise in magazines it’s that they don’t have a social media presence and refuse to make simple changes that could greatly increase their business
How "safe" is it to mail these coins off? These packages are worth thousands of even millions for upper level dealerships. So easy to swipe along the chain. I assume the postman doesn't put the package in your mailbox or leave it on your porch!
Agreed. insurance & registered mail & put a note saying "contact u if package has damage" upon arrival. IMPORTANT. *In my opinion* if u think u have something expensive. take a few different types of images of ur coin/s, make copies & take pics of both copies side by side on any surface. Mail the copy of ur coin/s side by side with ur submission. Tell them u want them to mail ur pic back with ur submission. If they don't, u still have ur copie.copies. Oh & don't just look at coin markers like scratches or black spots or fingerprints. Loot at each quadrant and the letters and numbers. Just to be safe. If u think it's expensive or u think u shoulda had a higher grade. If u care about 1 or 2 grades difference 😅
I had a Gold coin disappear in P.O. in New York, tracked to & disappeared in US Post Office. A 2nd hand service at local Super Store guaranteed the best route & was wrong (Registered Mail is & should've been suggested) $500 lesson. Main office in Missouri gave me Shipping Cost as refund .
It’s very safe if you ship registered. The package is under lock and key the whole way and there is a chain of custody each time it’s handled. Downside is that it can be quite a bit slower
Hey Daniel, thanks for sharing the info!! Just a quick question... why does the holder for the Liberty dime @10:13 read 1945-S when the coin clearly has a 'W' mint mark?
That is the designer initials not the mint mark, the West Point Mint didn’t exist then. You really need to buy a 2024 Mega Red Book, you will learn so much more.
If you are referring to the mark on the obverse that’s not the mint mark that is the designer’s monogram “AW”. The mintmark is on the reverse left of fasces.
Really like your videos. Not sure why your getting more for PCGS graded coins versus NGC. Both are now owned by large investor conglomerates and there's absolutely no difference between them. Neither of these two companies care about your coins or your opinion. It's all about the money and nothing more. The only two grading companies that truly care about you and your coins is ANACS and CACG. All my ANACS graded coins are either accurately graded or a bit on the conservative side. I do not currently have any CACG graded coins, but the market seems to indicate full acceptance. The only complaint I've read/ heard about CACG is they are too conservative and I think that is a good thing. Your and others like you keep ANACS at the bottom of the tree due to your opinion of them. I submitted my last and final coin to NGC two years ago and will never go back. ANACS and CACG are my only choices at this point.
It’s the market not my opinion. Don’t believe me, do some sold auction results and see for yourself. I can assure you that you’re not telling me anything I don’t already know on this subject.
I am saving up for a CAC Grading submission. I know they grade harder but the premiums appear to be higher. Now that PCGS and NGC have been sold off to corporations it seems to me that they both practice grade protection to keep their pops of top coins low and their coins in general are not as good as the label suggests... These are my personal opinions. Others may think differently. Thank you, Daniel for showing off these beautiful coins.
Good morning Daniel... I always look forward to your videos and all the knowledge you offer in them..thank you for all you do for the community...keep it coming....
@Redbird-UJ76 funny how you think PCGS is correct every time and they they're not inconsistent. I held the coins in my hand and I can tell you I know as much as PCGS on grading and identifying cleaned coins.

Hey Daniel, when you say that some of them needed “restoring” does that mean you did it or had PCGS do it? If it was you, how can you do that without PCGS calling them cleaned? You probably already have a video about that but I haven’t seen it
Yes, I already have a video on how I do it and it would cost too much to have PCGS do it. I know as much as PCGS on grading and restoring coins. Restoring coins is just chemistry, not cleaning.
I agree that the artist for ANACS should change the Mustard color to something nicer, and NGC needs some work, but now that CACG is in the business all roads lead somewhere and if we live long enough, we will find out where to. Good luck to you Daniel.
Man they were rough on this order. I thought sometimes they will let stuff from early 1800s slide and straight grade if it isn’t terrible. So hard to tell on some. I don’t think I could guess the difference between a MS64 or 65 merc or Washington quarter. 64s are a good value for the buyer.

But I would be happy to get coins like that, you must have the eye for picking those out and now they're preserved. There's tons of dipped coins in PCGS holders from years back, if you re-submit are they going to send those back now as "Cleaned Details"?

Too many coins come back from grading as ‘cleaned’, when in reality they were merely disinfected back in the day.
That was exciting !!!! I thought some of the coins should have gotten a higher grade. So after watching that i guess i need to look harder 🧐❤
