    Thanks for this informative video. The point that amateurs should read and respond individually is both important and well made.

    Yes all Amateurs need to send individual responses to Ofcom, not the RSGB as some people have suggested.

    Thanks to Murray for enlightening us on some of the more obscure areas of the proposals. I can't imagine anyone wanting to drop an RSL., Having the option to be GM4DBN/P when I travel across the border is something I will always choose to do while permitted. Single personal call per licencee? Sure, so long as folks who self-identify as their G8 or 2E call or whatever can choose to retain that one. Fine for any new licencees. After all I had to surrender G8HYJ and not even my mother remembers me as that callsign.

    I spoke to Murray in Friedrichshafen about it and spoke to Murray in Danbury a week later, both times I told him that I had No Problems with any of it, in fact we're finally catching up with the rest of the world

    Power level increases are simply useless when you consider the fact that so many Foundation holders use more than their allocated power levels.... A LOT MORE. It makes far more sense to start the power levels at 100 Watts for Foundation holders as the vast majority of radios manufactured have a maximum output of 100 Watts as standard. This would cut down the temptation to go and buy a linear for these operators who feel the need for more power. Let's face it 100 Watts is all you need for worldwide communications.
    Also OFCOM don't seem to have taken into account that the vast majority of new operators come from backgrounds such as CB radio and therefore have prior radio knowledge. "What would a CBer know about proper radio?" I hear you ask, well, let me tell you, I've known some CB users who have more radio savvy than some of our, shall we say, "seasoned" Radio Amateurs. Also lets not forget that just because it's CB doesn't mean the laws of physics changes. The principals of all radio remain!
    Let them have more power for those reasons and also to help them get over the pile ups during contesting because let's face it, a pile up is a sure way to put a newbie off and we are trying to propogate the hobby are we not?

    Question do you think all licence holders, foundation, intermediate and full can supervise a guest? or is it still only full call?

    • @munkeh365
      @munkeh365 Рік тому +1

      Can or should? The proposal says any licence holder can. I quote....
      "The Radio Equipment may be used by the Licensee or by any person who has the
      permission of the licensee to do so and who is under the direct supervision of the
      Licensee"
      It doesn't mention licence type until the next paragraph which is talking about using a Club call sign.

    You missed out the new GE/ME RSL for England, which changes G/M to be come a UK wide prefix. This allows amateurs in Northern Ireland and Scotland to finally identify as British!

      ...and lose some countries from the DX list and potential QSO's in the process. If, from here in IO70 I hear a GM calling on 2m, I'd call right back. Not necessarily so if it was just a G call.

    • @GordonHudson
      @GordonHudson Рік тому +3

      @@combatwombat71 Yes. I was being sarcastic. My GM is worth an S point. More on some bands. When 12m was released I was one of only 2 GMs on regularly who had a decent antenna. Was almost like being DX. Anyway, I don't think introducing politics to amateur radio is a good idea, and that's what this does.

    • @bigpimp347

      @@GordonHudson the new relaxed licence conditions allows you to talk politics on the air now,
      as it also allows you to swear, play music and not identify your station as often.
      aRSeGB have done nothing more than make themselves money and ruin a good hobby,
      which they will clearly do further more with a lot of these stupid ideas..

      @GordonHudson Рік тому

      @@bigpimp347 The New UK prefix is the old English one. The only two Scottish stations I know who are desperate to drop the M say it's because they "hate the SNP". Even though the M was added 16 years before the SNP was founded and telecoms is not devolved to Scotland. I have not heard from Northern Ireland, but I imagine there will be a few similar *yahoos* taking a similar approach. If we really must have a UK wide prefix make it a new one, not a previous one for Scotland, England or Wales.

    In my opinion three levels licences system its to hard for many operators. In know all full licence operators said , its must be like that because full licenc holders its good operator and good equipment constructor. But in many countrys exist just one or two level and exam is not very hard, and its many good operators, antenna , amplifier designers so i dont thinking UK system is better them rest of world... Another think is power limit. This is very bad system. Many foundation licence holder use amplifier, also full licence holder use 1.5 - 2 kW ... so this is only regulation on paper but reality is diffrent. that why many foundation holder stay at basic licence because can be operate in all HF bands, 10W its only visible in regulation but i can give my head they use minimum full radio output. So that regulation is totaly bad. So if RSGB and Ofcom want to invitate more peples for join to Amatour radio world, licence leveles need to be reduce or exam need to be make easy. I am intermediate and i do not planning full because for is to difficult. Thanks, 73

      The foundation licence was introduced to help people enter the hobby. The old system had class B and Class A licences. If you consider the class b to be Intermediate and class A full, then what would you propose to add lower than foundation?
      The reason the standards are what they are is because Its a technical hobby and you need to know this stuff so you can operate within the licensing conditions and without causing interference to other services or risk physically harming yourself or others.
      The standards of the full license is pretty much uniform around the world and dictated by international agreement. The UK tries to spread the learning across the three licenses, other countries cram the same (and sometimes like in Germany) more into their syllabus with less license levels.
      Many people think that operating standards have deteriorated over recent years, some say it is because the entry bar has been set too low to join the hobby. The truth is, the licensing body determines what needs to be tested (OFCOM). The RSGB are employed to deliver the testing service previously operated by City & Guilds. The RSGB has very little say on the content of the syllabus and include what OFCOM tell them to.

      If you, @mariananonim, find the transition "to hard" or "to difficult", then do we want you having access to what the next level up would give you?
      We have driving licences for motorbike, car, goods vehicle, and pasenger-carrying vehicle. Would you want someone with only a motorbike licence operating a large lorry? (No offence intended to bike users.)
