They sure have a nice stadium for that band to play in! That is incredible for a high school, especially back in the 70s! I really miss traditional military bands like this. Even the few military groups still out there today are different; most of them try to include some corps style maneuvers or sounds. Either that or they are really boring -- it seems most people have forgotten that precision military bands can be extremely entertaining and interesting since today's all use the same basic countermarches instead of the clever formations in this video. Thanks for posting this -- I miss the days when bands routinely used the marching philosophy in this video.
Bill Woods is an amazing man. However, it was a lot more than 14 rehearsals! That was just one of his many sayings.....as it was also a repeat show from a few years before as well. I don't want to take away from the incredible success of the Seagraves band. I was a member of a rival band and was always in awe of Seagraves. We actually beat Seagraves in a State Competition for TMEA Class A Honor Band. Seagraves out marched us, but we out played them. We were slightly smaller, but the music was very different. At the time Seagraves was the largest Class A band in the State. Where I went to school, Crowell, we were the 3rd largest. Holliday being the 2nd. The 1975-76 school year was a grand year for both Seagraves and Crowell.
@@tdaniel596 it doesn't appear to be a very difficult drill. I love these old military style marching shows but I'd think this could easily be accomplished in 14 rehearsals. And while I love the style and think it's a good performance I would have guessed it would have received a Division Two instead of a One because there are several places where the sound and balance aren't all that good. I'd love to see Crowell videos if it's a similar style. It's interesting they march 6x5 at the beginning and swtich to 8x5 later.
@@buckysnodgrass9252 There are many Crowell videos. You have to match the years up as Crowell Had its hayday from 1972 to 1979. The school then got so small the band program was shut down.
