This is definitely one of those tracks that is good without context, but with context is so heart wrenching. Crisis core over all is a very sad story.
Well there was not another way for the story to end... i actually thought it was a great game even though i didn't care for the combat system.
It takes a special kind of writing to make an ending you 100% knew was coming and had seen 1000 times before still punch you in the feels and draw out the tears

Crisis Core is the first time I ever cried playing a video game. They way the game establishes your relationship with a character whose ending most of us know before it starts is amazing. I also love how we have slowly converted Jesse into a Final Fantasy fan since this channel started.

I mentioned this once in the Hollow reaction once, but I'll reiterate it here now that you have full context: the guitar is an instrument within the FF7 universe that is almost exclusively synonymous with Zack (particularly the acoustic, as you said). There's a few electric guitar uses in Remake, namely in Those Who Fight Further and a few other boss battle tracks, almost no use of it in the original FF7 (from my recollection at least, feel free to correct me), and almost nothing BUT the usage of it in Crisis Core. Having that stark contrast in instrumentation is what made Hollow hit so damn hard; because, in my eyes, it being pretty much an anomaly in terms of instrumentation within Remake, it has become Zack's new theme for the game going forward, a character whose demise we had to experience within gameplay (a beautiful sequence might I add) more than 10 years prior. Just hearing that acoustic guitar in Remake sent shivers up my spine, because I knew subconsciously it was super important, even just hearing it in Sector 6. It wasn't until after I realized how minimal its application within the game was that I realized WHY it did that to me.
Anyways, I'll quit ranting. If they bring this track back in Remake in the same Remade glory as the other tracks, and somehow find a way to crossover the melodies of each respective song at some point in one, continuous track, I might have a heart attack lol.
Yes and if you get Aerith in the 2nd dress, ( the pink one) it plays Rock that dress that is heavy with the guitar.
My guy you’re out here lore theorizing and playing You Can Hear the Cry of the Planet (my favorite FF7 song) as background music. I can’t describe how happy this makes me.
The credits version is a kick straight to the feels.

The price of freedom really was steep.
But, all this makes Remake's end so shocking. We lived with Zack's end for so long, and now there is hope again. Some people still doubt, we don't know 100% for sure, how or why. But he is back in some form!! T_T

I wonder if Zack isn't part of the reason Hollow and Hollow Sky are acoustic. They both felt like a throw back to Crisis Core to me at least.

Ahhhh... *Crisis Core...* they truly are what makes a boy into a man. Pretty fucked up in the end, but the story is well worth it, even when it hurts.
And having the "Price of Freedom" to go along with it?

Normally I never leave a comment but these games I can't help but geek out. I'm a super lurker.
So the general theme of crisis core was that of 'legacy' This song is perfect for Zacks theme. So the first time you hear this specific motif the exact timing is during the cutscene with sephiroth,Angeal, and Genesis in the simulator. To my ear at the time I first played this the theme's melody is split into three parts the violin, acoustic guitar and electric guitar. The violin for sephiroth(because one wing angel original was orchestral) Angeal for the acoustic (country boy background and such) and Genesis the edge lord having the electric guitar.
Zack is the embodiment of being a hero that those other three characters used to be before they fell and/or died. Hence he carries their legacy himself. So it becomes his theme.
Which then Zack gives his legacy to Cloud and so starts ff vii.
It is my hope that the reason we did not hear this theme in remake is because Zack still has more to do in this story than being inspiring and a legacy bearer.
Anyways that was my take on the song I've held for...since '07. So might be completely off the mark or maybe okay.

Its been my ringtone ever since i heard it back in the day. I only just recently played CC with the remaster
I still get weepy when listening to this song even after so many ears since I played FF7 and then Crísis Core. As you, and as many other people, Zack became my favorite character in the FF universe (he's has won as favorite character many times especially in Japan).
And yeah it is a simple song that is made so much more from the context. It just stays with you.

Like I said in the "Night of Seclusion" reaction, Zack Fair... Everyone's favorite Final Fantasy character, including myself, lol.
I played Crisis Core on release, and I absolutely loved Zack, especially his scenes with Aerith. Such good chemistry, and the music during their scenes hits really hard. That ending of Advent Children too... The feels man!

I'm not sure if it's nostalgia together with the memories from back when I first played CC on PSP but Price of Freedom is so incredibly emotional to me. Price of Freedom and Why and just tears and sobbing. I'm not sure how people find this music without the context of the character and story but this song still feels very emotional. Such a beautiful song.
After playing all the games, watching the movie, and reading the books, what I really want for the rest of the Remake, aside from playing as Zack, Vincent, and one of the Turks once again, is to play as Rufus Shinra. Such a gray, complex, intriguing, lovable and hateful character at the same time.

So when this song played in the game, it was the first (and I think still only) time I ever cried at a video game. The scene it plays in is already sad, but combined with the song, it actually became heartwrenching to me

Yeah, Crisis Core makes great use of acoustic and electric guitar. I don't know if you have heard these yet, but "Under the Apple Tree" and "Wandering on a sunny afternoon" are great tracks as well.
I like how you enjoy and appreciate music. Seems like no one anymore really listens and gets into it. It's hard to find people to talk to about it. I'm glad people still do. Everything from the lyrics to the instruments and Melodies. Music is so much more then a background while people scroll through Instagram.
That is the only game that made me cry. The ending was so moving...I was on a "life is so unfair" mood for days.
I dropped the PSP and cryed.
The tears well up on those first few notes for me, every time. Every. Single. Time.
Given Crisis Core's director, the hopefulness in the music probably has a lot more to do with the idea that the ultimate sacrifice, made willingly and at great cost, is the most fitting end to a heroic life than it has to do with any thought of bringing Zack back. Nomura and especially Kitase might do that; Tabata not so much.
With that said, I don't know how much you saw of the ending, but there's a clear moment of apotheosis shortly after this song plays, so the hopefulness is relevant in that way too. ;)
Ooo, a friend actually link Price of Freedom in one of their twitter posts. I didnt play FF7 or Crisis Core back then, but I gave it a listen anyway. I instantly bought Crisis Core after that. Zach is now one of my favorites in any game!! This was over 10 years ago though haha
I had the song come on my recommendations a year or so ago, and it had been several years since I had heard it, and I teared up as everything came back to me, it was one of the few times something like that had ever happened to me.
I think the happy part of the vibe is more about how he accomplished his dream- he became a hero. And how even if he doesn't get to go on, Cloud will

This song just shouts Zack, as much as Aerith's theme just shouts out Aerith. The song is beautiful, but when you know the meaning behind it all, the songs get extremely emotional.

The songs hopeful edge seems to me to be more about the nobility to face death by following one's own convictions. Zack as he was wasn't giving up he was standing up and hoped that Cloud would in time do the same. Ex: Living Legacy
Exactly the hope come from the fact that he was able to protect Cloud and passed on his dreams

I remember playing Crisis Core, and with it being a prequel, I knew what was going to happen. I tried to be strong, but when the scene hit, and the music played, I broke down
Crisis core crushed my feelings. Zack was such a character you can relate to. He’s a little cocky but will always be there when you need him. Even if you try to kill him. 😅 Zack will be missed. 😢

Yea its a shame after 7 Remake and original 7 he decided to skip this game... wich imo is better than both of those story wise since Zack is just a better character than Cloud imo, skiping Dirge of Cerberus id understand since that game was every avrage but i honestly was looking froward to CC 7 but ohh well.
@@meteraphantom9059 I actually don't think Crisis Core is better than FF7 storywise at all, nor that Zack is a better character than Cloud because of multiple reasons (people think more enjoyable personality and tragic fate= better character when it's not), but Jesse definitely lost a good opportunity, especially since he liked Zack that much already from watching a playthrough. It would have probably devastated him to play the game, but it's still good that he has context for the Remake now.

Zach is my favorite also. I usually like the broody or conflicted characters, but Zach's personality and personhood touches the entire story of this game and VII.
